If the spatial structure of the source field can be described by the approximation, one can estimate the Q1 value using the single-station Z/H method. This technique enables us to carry out regional deep gcomagnetic sounding by the method. The data used for analyses are geomagnetic night-time values for about, typically, 26 years from 5 good-quality stations and for several years from 34 stations distributed over the globe. The results indicate that the night-time values yield more reliable response estimates for half-year period compared to the usual estimates obtained from daily means. It implies that the approximation for the night-time fields holds good for the half-year period, but the daily means are not suitable for estimating the response function of the semi-annual variations by using the single-station method. Source field analyses for daily means data and night-time means data have also been carried out in this paper.展开更多

However, these applications usually exclude shallow waters along the coast, with one of the concerns being large aliased tide-correction error. In this study the authors analyzed 14 years of merged satellite altimeter data to obtain the amplitude and phase of the semi-annual cycle and to examine the variation at the K1 alias frequency (close to the semi-annual frequency). The results indicate that the amplitude of the semi-annual cycle ranges from 3-7 cm, substantial compared with that of the annual cycle; while the amplitude at the K1 alias frequency (error of the K1 tidal correction) is essentially 1 cm only. Altimeter-derived semi-annual cycle is in good agreement with that from independent tide-gauge observations, pointing to the competent ability of satellite altimetry in observing semi-annual sea level variations in the South China Sea.展开更多

From investigations of the vertical and latitudinal structures of interannual anomalies for O3 and the vertical velocity of the residual circulation (w-star), we conclude that dynamic transport is the principal factor controlling the QBO pattern of O3. Under the influence of vertical transport, the QBO signals of O3 originate in the middle stratosphere and propagate downward along with the wstar anomalies over the equator. The residual circulation has a significant role in tropical regions, regardless of altitude, while in extratropical regions, dynamic effects are important in some years in the lower stratosphere. In the middle stratosphere, dynamic transport is most efficient in the Southern Hemisphere. We also analyzed NO2 anomalies and found that their QBO pattern was deep and sta- tionary in the middle and upper stratosphere over the equator. This was due to the large depth over which w-star was anomalous. The latitudinal structure of NO2 was asymmetric in extratropical areas in the middle stratosphere, but in the upper layers, the QBO pattern and dynamic influences were only observed in tropical zones. The interannual anomalies of NO3 had an apparent SAO pattern in the tropical upper stratosphere because of different dynamic and chemical effects in different SAO phases. Chemical reactions may also have contributed to the QBO-type distribution of NO2 and the SAO-type distribution of NO3.展开更多

By solving the one-year global positioning system (GPS) data of Shandong Continuous Operational Reference System (SDCORS) in 2012, we modeled the single-layer spherical harmonic model of vertical total electron content (TEC) over Shandong Province, China, and analyzed the time series of TEC in 2012. The ionosphere over Shandong in 2012 was in the peak year of solar activity. The ionospheric model over Shandong was calibrated and verified using data of the Center for Orbit Determination in Europe (CODE) and the Crustal Movement Observation Network of China (CMONOC), respectively. The ionosphere is greatly influenced by latitude and solar activity and has the phenomenon of Winter anomaly and semiannual anomaly as well as the session change, diurnal variation, monthly change and seasonal variations. So we can grasp the regularity of temporal and spatial distribution of ionosphere over Shandong, China.展开更多
