To improve the harmonic suppression ability of multi-pulse rectifier,a 12-pulse rectifier based on zigzag autotransformer by DC side active compensation strategy is proposed.By controlling the small capacity current inverter to generate compensating currents and injecting the currents directly into the DC side of the system, the grid-side currents of the rectifier can be approximated to sine wave.Using zigzag autotransformer as phase-shifting transformer can block the zero sequence current components and reduce the equivalent capacity of the rectifying system. The study on harmonic distortion rate of grid-side currents with the variation of the load shows that the harmonic content of the compensated rectifier decreases significantly under various load conditions. The harmonic content of the grid-side currents of the proposed active injection rectifier is only 1.17%,and the equivalent capacity of the rectifier is calculated. The results show that the rectifier can not only suppress the harmonic currents, but also have a lower equivalent capacity. 展开更多

The Auto-Transformer Rectifier Unit(ATRU) is one preferred solution for high-power AC/DC power conversion in aircraft. This is mainly due to its simple structure, high reliability and reduced k VA ratings. Indeed, the ATRU has become a preferred AC/DC solution to supply power to the electric environment control system on-board future aircraft. In this paper, a general modelling method for ATRUs is introduced. The developed model is based on the fact that the DC voltage and current are strongly related to the voltage and current vectors at the AC terminals of ATRUs. In this paper, we carry on our research in modelling symmetric 18-pulse ATRUs and develop a generic modelling technique. The developed generic model can study not only symmetric but also asymmetric ATRUs. An 18-pulse asymmetric ATRU is used to demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the developed model by comparing with corresponding detailed switching SABER models provided by our industrial partner. The functional models also allow accelerated and accurate simulations and thus enable whole-scale more-electric aircraft electrical power system studies in the future. 展开更多

In order to improve the ability of harmonic suppression, and reduce the loss of switching devices, this paper proposes an active harmonic suppression method at dc side of multi-pulse rectifier(MPR) . The circulating current through secondary winding of active inter-phase reactor(AIPR) is derived from the current relation between the ac and dc sides of MPR when the threephase input currents are sinusoidal simultaneously, and an applicable circulating current is presented. According to the relation between voltage across secondary winding of AIPR and the applicable current,it is confirmed that harmonic energy of input line current can be consumed by the resistor in series with the secondary winding. A half-bridge PWM rectifier is designed to abstract the harmonic power and to feed the load, which can realize the recycling of harmonic energy. Experimental results show that the power factor of the proposed system is approximately equal to one when the PWM rectifier operates normally, and that the proposed system has the ability of anti-variation of load and input voltage. 展开更多

This paper compares the 12-pulse rectifiers using the two transformers via calculating the input line current, load voltage, kVA ratings of the two autotransformer, kVA ratings of the auxiliary magnetic devices. From the viewpoint of power quality of AC mains and DC side, the two 12-pulse rectifiers are the same. The kVA rating of the IPR in the two 12-pulse rectifiers are equal, and the kVA rating of the ZSBT in the two 12-pulse rectifier are also equal to each other, under the same load power. However, the kVA of the deltaconnected autotransformer is less than that of the wyeconnected autotransformer under the same load power. Some experimental results are shown to validate the correctness of the theoretical analysis. 展开更多

This paper proposes a novel multi-pulse flexible-topology thyristor rectifier(FTTR) that can operate over a large voltage range while maintaining a low total harmonic distortion(THD) in the input current. The proposed multi-pulse FTTR has two operating modes:parallel mode and series mode.Irrespective of the mode in which it operates, the multi-pulse FTTR maintains the same pulses in the load current. To mitigate the harmonic injection into the AC mains, the topology-switching mechanism is then proposed. In addition, predictive current control is employed to achieve fast current response in both the transience and the transitions between modes. To verify the effectiveness of the multi-pulse FTTR as well as the control scheme, performance analysis based on an 18-pulse FTTR is investigated in detail, including fault tolerance evaluation, current THD analysis based on IEEE standard, and potential applications. Finally,a simulation model and the corresponding laboratory setup are developed. The results from both simulation and experiments demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed multi-pulse FTTR as well as the control scheme. 展开更多
