BACKGROUND Despite significant advancements in the medical treatment of primary hepato-cellular carcinoma(PHC)in recent years,enhancing therapeutic effects and im-proving prognosis remain substantial challenges worldw...BACKGROUND Despite significant advancements in the medical treatment of primary hepato-cellular carcinoma(PHC)in recent years,enhancing therapeutic effects and im-proving prognosis remain substantial challenges worldwide.AIM To investigate the expression levels of serum vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)and interleukin(IL)-17 in patients with PHC and evaluate their diagnostic value while exploring their relationship with patients’clinical characteristics.METHODS The study included 50 patients with confirmed PHC who visited Wuhan Han-yang Hospital from January 2021 to January 2022,and 50 healthy individuals from the same period served as the control group.Serum VEGF and IL-17 levels in both groups were measured by Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay,and their diagnostic value was assessed using receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curves.Pearson correlation analysis was performed to examine the relationship between serum VEGF and IL-17 levels.Pathological data of the PHC patients were analyzed to determine the relationship between serum VEGF and IL-17 levels and pathological characteristics.RESULTS Serum VEGF and IL-17 levels were significantly higher in the study group com-pared to the control group(P<0.05).No significant association was observed between serum VEGF and IL-17 levels and gender,age,combined cirrhosis,tumor diameter,or degree of differentiation(P>0.05).However,there was a significant relationship between clinical TNM stage,tumor metastasis,and serum VEGF and IL-17 levels(P<0.05).Correlation analysis revealed a positive correlation between serum VEGF and IL-17(P<0.05).ROC analysis demonstrated that both serum VEGF and IL-17 had good diagnostic efficacy for PHC.CONCLUSION Serum VEGF and IL-17 levels were significantly higher in PHC patients compared to healthy individuals.Their levels were closely related to pathological features such as tumor metastasis and clinical TNM stage,and there was a significant positive correlation between VEGF and IL-17.These biomarkers may serve as valuable reference in-dicators for the early diagnosis and treatment guidance of PHC.展开更多

METHODS:Serum IL-18,IL-6 and IL-12 levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) from 70 patients with HCC and 10 healthy controls. RESULTS:Serum IL-18,IL-6 and IL-12 levels of patients with HCC were significantly higher that those of the controls. The levels of IL-18 correlated significantly with the presence of venous invasion and advanced tumor stages classified by Okuda's criteria. Patients with high serum IL-18 levels (≥ 105 pg/mL) had a poorer survival than those with low serum IL-18 levels (< 105 pg/mL) (4 and 11 mo,respectively,P = 0.015). Multivariate analyses showed that serum IL-18 level,but not IL-6 and IL-12 levels,was a significant and independent prognostic factor of survival. CONCLUSION:These findings demonstrate that serum IL-8 may a useful biological marker of tumor invasiveness and an independent prognostic factor of survival for patients with HCC. Thus,the detailed mechanisms of IL-18 involving in tumor progression should be further investigated.展开更多

The stratification of risk factors based on the International Staging System(ISS), Durie-Salmon(DS)staging and related indicators is affected by the renal function of patients,resulting in poor performance. This study assesses the relationship between interleukin-32(IL-32) and related risk factors in 67 patients with MM and their clinical outcomes.AIM To investigate the feasibility of IL-32 in evaluating prognosis in patients with MM and the factors influencing prognosis.METHODS This was a pragmatic, prospective observational study of patients with MM at a single center. According to IL-32 level, patients were divided into two groups.The variables under consideration included age, blood β2-microglobulin,albumin, C-reactive protein, serum calcium, serum creatinine, lactate dehydrogenase, M protein type, ISS stage, DS stage, and IL-32 levels and minimal residual disease(MRD) after induction treatment. The main outcomes were progression-free survival(PFS) and overall survival(OS).RESULTS IL-32 was an important factor affecting PFS and OS in patients with MM.Compared with patients with IL-32 levels ≥ 856.4 pg/m L, patients with IL-32 levels < 856.4 pg/m L had longer PFS(P = 0.0387) and OS(P = 0.0379);Univariate analysis showed that IL-32 level and MRD were significantly associated with OS and PFS(P < 0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that IL-32 levels ≥ 856.4 pg/m L and MRD positive were still independent risk factors for OS and PFS(P < 0.05).CONCLUSION IL-32 is valuable for assessing the prognosis of MM patients. IL-32 level combined with MRD may be a useful routine evaluation index for MM patients after treatment.展开更多

This study was to investigate the serum levels of IL-18 and their clinical significance in patients with colore3ctaql carcinomas. Methods: Peripheral blood samples were obtained from 106 patients with colorectal carcinoma and 60 volunteers. The serum IL-18 levels were determined in each sample with an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results: In patients before 1997, the mean IL-18 level was 338.46 pg/ml; in patients after 1997, the mean IL-18 level was 328.85 pg/ml, there is no evidence of loss of IL-18 immunoreactivity after prolonged storage at -80℃. The mean serum IL-18 level in 106 patients with colorectal carcinoma was significantly higher compared with the 60 healthy volunteers (P<0.05). Although the IL-18 level in patients with stage I did not differ from controls, the serum IL-18 levels of patients with stage II, stage III and stage IV disease were significantly higher compared with healthy control (P<0.05). The mean serum IL-18 level of patients with stage III disease, while the difference between patients with stage II and stage IV was not statistically significant (P>0.05). The survival rate of patients with IL-18 levels ≥346 pg/ml (n=47 patients) was significantly worse compared with patients who had IL-18 levels <346 pg/ml(n=57 patients). The 5-year-survival rates were 5.3% and 18.6%, respectively. Multivariate analysis using a Cox proportional hazards model identified the serum IL-18 level as an independent prognostic factor for survival Conclusion: The serum IL-18 level has a significant correlation with survival curve. The serum IL-18 level may represent a significant postoperative prognostic determinant in patients with colorectal carcinoma.展开更多
BACKGROUND Chronic inflammatory pain is associated with increased expression of interleukin(IL)-1,an inflammatory cytokine,and activity on its receptor(IL-1R).In response,the body produces IL-1R antagonist(IL-1Ra)to r...BACKGROUND Chronic inflammatory pain is associated with increased expression of interleukin(IL)-1,an inflammatory cytokine,and activity on its receptor(IL-1R).In response,the body produces IL-1R antagonist(IL-1Ra)to reduce this signaling.Autologous conditioned serum(ACS)is the only biologic therapy for spinal pathologies that enhances the action of endogenous IL-1Ra reserves to improve symptoms.This systematic review investigates the effectiveness of ACS in treating pain and dis-ability caused by spinal pathologies.AIM To evaluate the use of ACS as a conservative management option for spinal path-ology.METHODS A systematic review of PubMed/Medline was performed to identify studies inve-stigating administration of ACS for treatment of any spinal pathology.RESULTS Six articles were included,comprising 684 patients treated with epidural(n=133)or transforaminal(n=551)ACS injections.Patients had an average age of 54.0 years with slight female predominance(53.2%).The lumbar spine was most com-monly treated,with 567 patients(82.9%)receiving injections for lumbar radicu-lopathy(n=67),degenerative disc disease(DDD)(n=372),or spinal stenosis(n=128);cervical injections were performed in 109 patients(15.9%).Mean(SD)follow-up was 21.7(4.8)weeks from first ACS injection.All studies investigating mecha-nical lumbar and lumbar or cervical radicular pain reported significant pain re-duction at final follow-up compared to baseline.ACS achieved comparable or su-perior results to lumbar epidural steroid injections.Adverse events were reported in 21 patients(3.1%),with no serious adverse events.CONCLUSION ACS injection is a safe and effective intervention for pain reduction in many spinal pathologies,including cervical and lumbar radiculopathies.展开更多

The protein expression of IL-26 in the serum and vitreous fluid were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA). The m RNA change of IL-26 in peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMCs) was assessed by real-time polymerase chain reaction.RESULTS: The serum expression of IL-26 in PDR group was significantly elevated compared with the normal control group, DWR group and NPDR group. The vitreous fluid concentration of IL-26 in PDR patients(without antiVEGF therapy) was also higher compared to normal controls. However, no obvious significance was found concerning the expression of IL-26 in vitreous fluid between PDR after anti-VEGF therapy and normal controls. In PDR group, the m RNA level of IL-26 significantly increased compared with the normal controls and DWR patients in the PBMCs.CONCLUSION: Protein and m RNA expression of IL-26 are increased in serum, vitreous fluid and PBMCs in PDR patients, suggesting that IL-26 may be associated with the pathogenesis of PDR.展开更多
BACKGROUND Gastric cancer(GC) is one of the most common malignancies in China with a high morbidity and mortality.AIM To determine whether interleukin(IL)-31, IL-32, and IL-33 can be used as biomarkers for the detecti...BACKGROUND Gastric cancer(GC) is one of the most common malignancies in China with a high morbidity and mortality.AIM To determine whether interleukin(IL)-31, IL-32, and IL-33 can be used as biomarkers for the detection of GC, via evaluating the correlations between their expression and clinicopathological parameters of GC patients.METHODS Tissue array(n = 180) gastric specimens were utilised. IL-31, IL-32, and IL-33 expression in GC and non-GC tissues was detected immunohistochemically. The correlations between IL-31, IL-32, and IL-33 expression in GC and severity of clinicopathological parameters were evaluated. Survival curves were plotted using the Kaplan-Meier method/Cox regression. Circulating IL-31, IL-32, and IL-33 were detected by ELISA.RESULTS We found that the expression levels of IL-31, IL-32, and IL-33 were all lower in GC than in adjacent non-GC gastric tissues(P < 0.05). IL-33 in peripheral blood of GC patients was significantly lower than that of healthy individuals(1.50 ± 1.11 vs 9.61 ± 8.00 ng/m L, P <0.05). Decreased IL-31, IL-32, and IL-33 in GC were observed in younger patients(< 60 years), and IL-32 and IL-33 were lower in female patients(P < 0.05). Higher IL-32 correlated with a longer survival in two GC subgroups: T4 invasion depth and TNM I-II stage. Univariate/multivariate analysis revealed that IL-32 was an independent prognostic factor for GC in the T4 stage subgroup. Circulating IL-33 was significantly lower in GC patients at TNM stage IV than in healthy people(P < 0.05).CONCLUSION Our findings may provide new insights into the roles of IL-31, IL-32, and IL-33 in the carcinogenesis of GC and demonstrate their relative usefulness as prognostic markers for GC. The underlying mechanism of IL-31, IL-32, and IL-33 actions in GC should be further explored.展开更多
Objective:To investigat the diagnostic value of transient elastography combined with serum amyloid A and interleukin-6 in the degree of hepatitis B liver fibrosis.Methods:A total of 334 patients with chronic HBV infec...Objective:To investigat the diagnostic value of transient elastography combined with serum amyloid A and interleukin-6 in the degree of hepatitis B liver fibrosis.Methods:A total of 334 patients with chronic HBV infection that were admitted to the Department of Infectious Diseases of the First Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical College from January 2020 to May 2022 with informed consent and underwent liver biopsy puncture were selected.According to the pathological results,they were divided into no obvious fibrosis group,obvious fibrosis group and liver cirrhosis group.Comparison of liver stiffness measurement(LSM),serum amyloid A(SAA0,IL-6 levels between different groups.This study drawed was conducted draw the receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve of each index to diagnose significant liver fibrosis and liver cirrhosis,and compared the area under the ROC curve(AUC)and diagnostic efficacy of each non-invasive fibrosis diagnostic model.The diagnostic performance of the combined assay was superior to that of APRI and FIB-4 In different degrees of liver fibrosis.Results:According to the degree of liver fibrosis,the levels of SAA,IL-6,and LSM in the no significant fibrosis group(n=140),the significant fibrosis group(n=134),and the cirrhosis group(n=60)were statistically significant difference(All P<0.001).SAA,IL-6 and LSM were significantly correlated with the degree of liver fibrosis(rs=0.456,rs=0.482,rs=0.602,All P<0.001).The AUC of SAA and IL-6 for the diagnosis of significant fibrosis in hepatitis B were 0.738 and 0.809,respectively.And the AUC for the diagnosis of liver cirrhosis were 0.813 and 0.823,respectively.The AUC for the combined diagnosis of significant fibrosis and cirrhosis were 0.930 and 0.964,respectively.The diagnostic performance of the combined assay was superior to that of APRI and FIB-4 in different degrees of liver fibrosis(All P<0.001).Conclusion:LSM combined with serum SAA and IL-6 has great diagnostic value for different degrees of hepatitis B liver fibrosis.展开更多

Methods: Thirty cases of hy-pertension pati...Objective:To observe the effect of acupuncture of Fengchi (风池 GB 20) on blood pressure, serum IL-6 and plasma endothelin (ET) contents in patients with hypertension. Methods: Thirty cases of hy-pertension patients were made up of treatment group and treated with acupuncture of Fengchi (GB 20) ; while 20 healthy subjects were made up of control group. Blood pressure was determined before and after the treatment. Fasting blood samples were taken from the cubital venous vessel for detecting serum interleukin (IL)-6 and plasma ET contents with radioimmunoassay before and after acupuncture treatment. Results: Before the treatment, in hypertension patients, serum IL-6 and plasma ET levels were significant higher thanthose in healthy subjects (P〈 0.01 ); while after the treatment, blood pressure of treatment group declined significantly ( P 〈 0.01 ), serum IL-6 and plasma ET levels decreased considerably ( P 〈 0.01 ). Conclusion: Acupuncture of Fengchi (GB 20) can lower blood pressure, regulate cellular immunity and secretion functions of the vascular endothelial cells in hypertension patients.展开更多

文摘BACKGROUND Chronic inflammatory pain is associated with increased expression of interleukin(IL)-1,an inflammatory cytokine,and activity on its receptor(IL-1R).In response,the body produces IL-1R antagonist(IL-1Ra)to reduce this signaling.Autologous conditioned serum(ACS)is the only biologic therapy for spinal pathologies that enhances the action of endogenous IL-1Ra reserves to improve symptoms.This systematic review investigates the effectiveness of ACS in treating pain and dis-ability caused by spinal pathologies.AIM To evaluate the use of ACS as a conservative management option for spinal path-ology.METHODS A systematic review of PubMed/Medline was performed to identify studies inve-stigating administration of ACS for treatment of any spinal pathology.RESULTS Six articles were included,comprising 684 patients treated with epidural(n=133)or transforaminal(n=551)ACS injections.Patients had an average age of 54.0 years with slight female predominance(53.2%).The lumbar spine was most com-monly treated,with 567 patients(82.9%)receiving injections for lumbar radicu-lopathy(n=67),degenerative disc disease(DDD)(n=372),or spinal stenosis(n=128);cervical injections were performed in 109 patients(15.9%).Mean(SD)follow-up was 21.7(4.8)weeks from first ACS injection.All studies investigating mecha-nical lumbar and lumbar or cervical radicular pain reported significant pain re-duction at final follow-up compared to baseline.ACS achieved comparable or su-perior results to lumbar epidural steroid injections.Adverse events were reported in 21 patients(3.1%),with no serious adverse events.CONCLUSION ACS injection is a safe and effective intervention for pain reduction in many spinal pathologies,including cervical and lumbar radiculopathies.
文摘To study the effect of IL-18 and nitric oxide(NO) on the growth and metastasis of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).Methods Serum IL-18 and nitrate and nitrite levels in 82 patients with NSCLC and 20 healthy control subjects were measured by using ELISA and Griess.Results The levels of serum IL-18 were (334.2±31.0)ng/L in NSCLC patients and (151.3±22.0)ng/L in control subjects,respectively.The levels of nitrate and nitrite were (237.1±21.0)μmol/L in NSCLC patients and (44.2±15.0)μmol/L in control subjects.The levels of serum IL-18 and nitrate and nitrite were not related with age,gender,histological types in patients with NSCLC.The levels of serum IL-18 was closely associated with TNM stage,lymph node metastasis and distal metastasis,but not with its degree and organ types of metastasis.There was a negative correlation between the levels of serum IL-18 and nitrate and nitrite.Conclusion Serum IL-18 and nitrate and nitrite levels may be useful to evaluate the prognosis of the patients with NSCLC.16 refs,2 tabs.

文摘Objective:To explore the serum levels of IL-32,MMP-9.PCT and CRP in patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(AECOPD).Methods:A total of 50 patients with AECOPD and 45 cases with acute asthma attack admitted from October 2013 to August 2014 were selected,and the serum levels of IL-32.MMP-9.PCT and CRP were determined and compaed by using Double antibody sandwich Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay,immunofluorescence double antibody sandwich assay and immunoturbidimetry assay.Results:Serum levels of IL-32.MMP-9.PCT and CRP were significantly higher in AECOPD group than acute asthma attack group(P<0.05).IL-32 and MMP-9 were negatively correlated with lung function.MMP-9 in AECOPD patients was increased more significantly.Conclusions:Serum levels of IL-32 and MMP-9 were negatively correlated with lung function,and the worse the lung function is.the more significant the increase is.

文摘AIM: To detect the possible role of interleukin(IL)-26 in diabetic retinopathy(DR) patients.METHODS: Subjects were divided into diabetes without retinopathy(DWR) group(n=20), non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy(NPDR) group(n=20), proliferative diabetic retinopathy(PDR) group(n=20) and normal control group(n=20). The protein expression of IL-26 in the serum and vitreous fluid were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA). The m RNA change of IL-26 in peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMCs) was assessed by real-time polymerase chain reaction.RESULTS: The serum expression of IL-26 in PDR group was significantly elevated compared with the normal control group, DWR group and NPDR group. The vitreous fluid concentration of IL-26 in PDR patients(without antiVEGF therapy) was also higher compared to normal controls. However, no obvious significance was found concerning the expression of IL-26 in vitreous fluid between PDR after anti-VEGF therapy and normal controls. In PDR group, the m RNA level of IL-26 significantly increased compared with the normal controls and DWR patients in the PBMCs.CONCLUSION: Protein and m RNA expression of IL-26 are increased in serum, vitreous fluid and PBMCs in PDR patients, suggesting that IL-26 may be associated with the pathogenesis of PDR.

文摘BACKGROUND Gastric cancer(GC) is one of the most common malignancies in China with a high morbidity and mortality.AIM To determine whether interleukin(IL)-31, IL-32, and IL-33 can be used as biomarkers for the detection of GC, via evaluating the correlations between their expression and clinicopathological parameters of GC patients.METHODS Tissue array(n = 180) gastric specimens were utilised. IL-31, IL-32, and IL-33 expression in GC and non-GC tissues was detected immunohistochemically. The correlations between IL-31, IL-32, and IL-33 expression in GC and severity of clinicopathological parameters were evaluated. Survival curves were plotted using the Kaplan-Meier method/Cox regression. Circulating IL-31, IL-32, and IL-33 were detected by ELISA.RESULTS We found that the expression levels of IL-31, IL-32, and IL-33 were all lower in GC than in adjacent non-GC gastric tissues(P < 0.05). IL-33 in peripheral blood of GC patients was significantly lower than that of healthy individuals(1.50 ± 1.11 vs 9.61 ± 8.00 ng/m L, P <0.05). Decreased IL-31, IL-32, and IL-33 in GC were observed in younger patients(< 60 years), and IL-32 and IL-33 were lower in female patients(P < 0.05). Higher IL-32 correlated with a longer survival in two GC subgroups: T4 invasion depth and TNM I-II stage. Univariate/multivariate analysis revealed that IL-32 was an independent prognostic factor for GC in the T4 stage subgroup. Circulating IL-33 was significantly lower in GC patients at TNM stage IV than in healthy people(P < 0.05).CONCLUSION Our findings may provide new insights into the roles of IL-31, IL-32, and IL-33 in the carcinogenesis of GC and demonstrate their relative usefulness as prognostic markers for GC. The underlying mechanism of IL-31, IL-32, and IL-33 actions in GC should be further explored.

文摘Objective:To investigat the diagnostic value of transient elastography combined with serum amyloid A and interleukin-6 in the degree of hepatitis B liver fibrosis.Methods:A total of 334 patients with chronic HBV infection that were admitted to the Department of Infectious Diseases of the First Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical College from January 2020 to May 2022 with informed consent and underwent liver biopsy puncture were selected.According to the pathological results,they were divided into no obvious fibrosis group,obvious fibrosis group and liver cirrhosis group.Comparison of liver stiffness measurement(LSM),serum amyloid A(SAA0,IL-6 levels between different groups.This study drawed was conducted draw the receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve of each index to diagnose significant liver fibrosis and liver cirrhosis,and compared the area under the ROC curve(AUC)and diagnostic efficacy of each non-invasive fibrosis diagnostic model.The diagnostic performance of the combined assay was superior to that of APRI and FIB-4 In different degrees of liver fibrosis.Results:According to the degree of liver fibrosis,the levels of SAA,IL-6,and LSM in the no significant fibrosis group(n=140),the significant fibrosis group(n=134),and the cirrhosis group(n=60)were statistically significant difference(All P<0.001).SAA,IL-6 and LSM were significantly correlated with the degree of liver fibrosis(rs=0.456,rs=0.482,rs=0.602,All P<0.001).The AUC of SAA and IL-6 for the diagnosis of significant fibrosis in hepatitis B were 0.738 and 0.809,respectively.And the AUC for the diagnosis of liver cirrhosis were 0.813 and 0.823,respectively.The AUC for the combined diagnosis of significant fibrosis and cirrhosis were 0.930 and 0.964,respectively.The diagnostic performance of the combined assay was superior to that of APRI and FIB-4 in different degrees of liver fibrosis(All P<0.001).Conclusion:LSM combined with serum SAA and IL-6 has great diagnostic value for different degrees of hepatitis B liver fibrosis.
文摘Objective:To observe the effect of acupuncture of Fengchi (风池 GB 20) on blood pressure, serum IL-6 and plasma endothelin (ET) contents in patients with hypertension. Methods: Thirty cases of hy-pertension patients were made up of treatment group and treated with acupuncture of Fengchi (GB 20) ; while 20 healthy subjects were made up of control group. Blood pressure was determined before and after the treatment. Fasting blood samples were taken from the cubital venous vessel for detecting serum interleukin (IL)-6 and plasma ET contents with radioimmunoassay before and after acupuncture treatment. Results: Before the treatment, in hypertension patients, serum IL-6 and plasma ET levels were significant higher thanthose in healthy subjects (P〈 0.01 ); while after the treatment, blood pressure of treatment group declined significantly ( P 〈 0.01 ), serum IL-6 and plasma ET levels decreased considerably ( P 〈 0.01 ). Conclusion: Acupuncture of Fengchi (GB 20) can lower blood pressure, regulate cellular immunity and secretion functions of the vascular endothelial cells in hypertension patients.
