The deformation and fracture of samples after tensile and compressive tests were examined in a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The in situ tensile testing was further carried out in a SEM and the crack growth path of samples was observed. The result shows that there is a remarkable effect of lamellar structure of CSD TiAl alloy on its deformation and fracture process. Especially, the main crack extension is dependent on the lamellar direction relative to tensile loading axis. SEM observations indicate that there is a shielding toughening effect of lamellar structure on fracture in CSD samples, such as, crack deflection, crack path tortuousity, and crack branching, etc. Moreover, the crack growth path shows that the main crack grows tortuously and uncontinuously by ligaments bridging many microcracks in front of crack tip. The effect mechanism of microstructure on deformation and fracture process is discussed.[展开更多

The effects of Mn addition on the carbon yield and structure are investigated. The catalysts are characterized by temperature programmed reduction(TPR) and X-ray diffraction(XRD) techniques, and the synthesized carbon materials are characterized by transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and thermo gravimetric analysis(TG). TEM measurement indicates that the catalyst Co Mg O enclosed completely in the produced graphite layer results in the deactivation of the catalyst. TG results suggest that the Co Mn Mg O catalyst has a higher selectivity for CNTs than Co Mg O. Meanwhile, different diameters of CNTs are synthesized by Co Mn Mg O catalysts with various amounts of Co content, and the results show that the addition of Mn avoids forming the enclosed catalyst, prevents the formation of amorphous carbon, subsequently promotes the growth of CNTs, and the catalyst with decreased Co content is favorable for the synthesis of CNTs with a narrow diameter distribution. The Co Mn Mg O catalyst with 40% Co content has superior catalytic activity for the growth of carbon nanotubes.展开更多

The highly c-axis textured MnBi films are obtained by annealing the bilayer consisting of textured Bi and Mn films. The eoercivities of the MnBi/Bi film are 1.5 T and 2.35 T at room temperature and at 373K, respectively, showing a positive temperature coefficient. Microstructural investigations show that the textured MnBi film results from the orientated growth induced by the textured Bi under-layer.展开更多
