Observation on the Therapeutic Effects of Acupuncture for 60 Cases of Simple Obesity

Simple obesity refers to a disease characterized by body overweight due to excessive calorie intake and over accumulation of adipose tissue in the body. With the improvement of life conditions, obesity has become a factor that impairs the health of the people. From 1997 to 1998, the author had treated 60 cases of simple obesity with acupuncture and obtained satisfactory results. The results of treatment are reported as follows.

Screening of acupuncture treatment for simple obesity

Objective:Observe the advantages and characteristics of Acupuncture therapy and Point Thread Embedding therapy in the treatment of simple obesity and to select the superior treatment schemes.Methods:on the basis of syndrome differentiation,acupuncture and Point Thread Embedding therapy were adopted respectively for 3 courses of treatment.Observe the changes of body weight and abdomen/waist/hip circumference in different stages of treatment and evaluate the curative effect.Results:Both acupuncture and Point Thread Embedding could lessen the weight and the abdomen/waist/hip circumference of simple obesity.Acupuncture and Point Thread Embedding can not only reduce body weight,but also improve clinical symptoms of simple obesity.The effect rate of clinical symptoms is better than that of weight(P<0.05);The efficiency of Point Thread Embedding group is better than that of Acupuncture group(P<0.05).There was no significant weight loss from the second course of treatment especially in acupuncture group(P>0.05).Conclusion:Acupuncture and Point Thread Embedding in the treatment of simple obesity focus more on the adjustment of body shape and constitution of obese patients;Compare with acupuncture treatment,point thread embedding group had a slower onset time and a longer duration of curative effect while acupuncture group had a faster onset time but a shorter duration.When the body weight is reduced to 5kg,the plateau stage occurs.Point Thread Embedding therapy is easier to be popularized and applied in clinic Because of its convenient and stable therapeutic effect.

Advances in Research of Simple Obesity and Its Manipulative Therapy in Recent Ten Years

The simple obesity is a common clinical disease and its incidence is increasing year by year.With the increasing pace of work,increasing pressure,and changing eating habits,the incidence of simple obesity tends to be younger.Among the treatment protocols for this disease,TCM manipulative(Tuina)therapy has remarkable curative effect and few adverse reactions,and has been well recognized.Modern research has also proposed a variety of treatment protocols with different characteristics and good curative effects.This paper reviews the related literature on simple obesity and its manipulative therapy in the past ten years,and summarizes its disease name,etiology and pathogenesis,manipulation and related therapies,so as to provide new ideas and new angles for the treatment of the simple obesity.

Mining the rules of acupoint selection and manipulation scheme of massage in reducing or substituting drug treatment of simple obesity based on association rules and entropy cluster analysis

Based on the data mining of clinical literature,we analyzed the characteristics of Acupoint Selection and manipulation in the clinical treatment of“simple obesity”,in order to optimize the compatibility of clinical acupoints,simplify the manipulation,and summarize the core prescription of Massage in the treatment of simple obesity.Methods:First we search and screen the clinical literature of Chinese Massage therapy for“simple obesity”by scholars at home and abroad.Then we analyze the Acupoint Selection and manipulation rules of Chinese Massage therapy for“simple obesity”by using data mining technology and traditional Chinese Medicine Inheritance assistant system.Finally we obtain the optimal new prescription based on complex system entropy clustering and unsupervised entropy hierarchical clustering analysis.Results:Fifty-seven prescriptions meeting the inclusion criteria were selected,including TIANSHU(ST25)(36),ZHONGWAN(RN12)(32),GUANYUAN(RN4)(30),ZUSANLI(ST36)(27),QIHAI(RN6)(23),“Stomach Meridians”(10),“Spleen Meridians”(8),Renmai(7),Abdomen(36),Umbilicus(8),Pressing(33),Holding(27),Pressing(26),and get 4 core Prescriptions like ST25-RN12-Renmai-Stomach Meridians-Abdominal Rub-Rubbing-Pushing thumb-Rubbing-Palm Pushing-Thumb Point Acupuncture-Palm Vibration and 4 new prescription of Massage manipulation for the treatment of simple obesity.Conclusion:The results of clinical diagnosis and treatment data are mined and analyzed by traditional Chinese medicine inheritance assistant system.The acupoint compatibility,manipulation rules and core prescriptions obtained can provide statistical basis and references for clinical Massage manipulation in the treatment of simple obesity.

Good Regulation of Acupunctore in Simple Obesity Patients with Stomach－Intestine Excessive Heat Type

In order to investigate the regulatory effect of acupuncture on obesity patients with the Stom-ach-Intestine Excessive Heat Type, the pre-acupunctureal and post-acupunctural obesity index and biochemi-cal indices of 718 simple obesity patients with Stomach-Intestine Excessive Heat Type were observed. It wasshowed that the marked weight loss effect was achieved in the cases by acupunctore, and the biochemical in-dices improved. It suggests that acupuncture had a optimal regulatory effect on the function of nerve, en-docrine, digestion and energy metabolism.

Treatment of Obesity with Western Medicine and Traditional Medicine:Based on PubMed and Science Direct Databases

The objective of this review was to collect the current published research on obesity and gain insight into the association of treatment based on a global aspect.The first section of the review will cover the treatment of obesity based on a Western medicine lens.The second section of the review will cover the treatment through a traditional approach based from different regions of the world(not including China).The third section of the review will cover treatment through a traditional Chinese medicine approach.The most commonly used electronic databases were used to search for articles related to obesity.The articles gathered consist of a broad spectrum from various parts of the world.Terms used in the search bar consisted of“obesity”,“BMI”,“acupuncture”,“traditional Chinese medicine”,etc.The majority of findings were collected from treatment based on both a western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine approach.The published literature collected is predominantly sourced from the online journal databases PubMed and Science Direct.Obesity is an ever-growing issue throughout society today.Different methods have shown effective results in treating this disease.It is crucial to continue exploring different treatment methods in hopes to solve this major public health issue.

Progress on haptoglobin and metabolic diseases

Haptoglobin(Hp)is an acidic glycoprotein,existing in the serum and other body fluids of human beings and a variety of mammals.Hp is produced in the liver,white adipose tissue,and the kidney.The genetic polymorphisms and different phenotypes of Hp have different biological functions.Hp has antibacterial,antioxidant,and angiogenic effects and is associated with multiple diseases including simple obesity,vascular complications of diabetes mellitus,nonalcoholic fatty liver disease,hypertension,blood diseases,autoimmune diseases,and malignant tumors.Hp also participates in many life activities,indicating the importance of Hp in further studies.Previously,we found that the expression of serum Hp changed after treatment of simple obesity patients in clinical trials.However,the specific mechanism of Hp in patients with simple obesity is still unclear.The purpose of this article is to introduce recent research progress on Hp,emphasizing the relationship between Hp and the development of metabolic disease,which will improve the understanding of the functions of Hp underlying metabolic diseases and discuss future research directions.
