The surface fracture toughness is an important mechanical parameter for studying the failure behavior of air plasma sprayed(APS)thermal barrier coatings(TBCs).As APS TBCs are typical multilayer porous ceramic materials,the direct applications of the traditional single edge notched beam(SENB)method that ignores those typical structural characters may cause errors.To measure the surface fracture toughness more accurately,the effects of multilayer and porous characters on the fracture toughness of APS TBCs should be considered.In this paper,a modified single edge V-notched beam(MSEVNB)method with typical structural characters is developed.According to the finite element analysis(FEA),the geometry factor of the multilayer structure is recalculated.Owing to the narrower V-notches,a more accurate critical fracture stress is obtained.Based on the Griffith energy balance,the reduction of the crack surface caused by micro-defects is corrected.The MSEVNB method can measure the surface fracture toughness more accurately than the SENB method. 展开更多

Mercury is a promising candidate for the optical lattice clock, due to its low sensitivity to the blackbody radiation. We develop a single folded beam magneto-optical trap for the neutral mercury optical lattice clock, with a 253. 7nm frequency quadrupled laser. Up to 1.7 × 10^6 (202Hg) or 1.5 × 10^6 (199Hg) atoms can be captured, and the atom temperature is lowered to 170μK (202Hg) or 50μK (199Hg). The cold atom signals of all six rich abundant isotopes are observed in this system. 展开更多

Orbital angular momentum density and spiral spectra of Lorentz–Gauss vortex beams passing through a single slit

Based on the Hermite–Gaussian expansion of the Lorentz distribution and the complex Gaussian expansion of the aperture function, an analytical expression of the Lorentz–Gauss vortex beam with one topological charge passing through a single slit is derived. By using the obtained analytical expressions, the properties of the Lorentz–Gauss vortex beam passing through a single slit are numerically demonstrated. According to the intensity distribution or the phase distribution of the Lorentz–Gauss vortex beam, one can judge whether the topological charge is positive or negative. The effects of the topological charge and three beam parameters on the orbital angular momentum density as well as the spiral spectra are systematically investigated respectively. The optimal choice for measuring the topological charge of the diffracted Lorentz–Gauss vortex beam is to make the single slit width wider than the waist of the Gaussian part. 展开更多

Purpose Nine scintillator detectors were developed for beam tuning of low-energy single electron accelerator instead of the picoammeter and Faraday cup,both of which will be insensitive to the weak-current beam lower than picoampere.Methods The detectors are based on plastic scintillator and photomultiplier tube(PMT)and the beam is 100 Hz pulsed electrons in the energy range of 0.1 to 50MeV.The beam flux was tuned from about 107 to quasi-single electron for each bunch according to the measurement results of these detectors installed along the beam pipe and after slits.In order to determine the number of electrons in a bunch,the gains of each PMT were finely calibrated,and the energy response of each detector was calibrated with 207Bi radioactive source.Moreover,the deposited energy in the plastic scintillator,the electron detection efficiency and light collection efficiency,as a function of electron incident energy,were also simulated in detail by Geant4.Results Nine detectors worked well at a gain of 0.6×10^(6) after installation in the beam pipe,and the number of electrons in a bunch could be measured at each detector position.The single electron peak was seen when the beam reached the final detector.Conclusion The commissioning result shows that the beam was tuned to quasi-single electron level successfully and the scintillator detector is an effective method to measure the weak-current beam lower than picoampere. 展开更多

A two-dimensional vector hydrophone was developed utilizing the PMN-PT relaxor ferroelectric single crystal,which is composed of a dual-axis piezoelectric composite flexural beam accelerometer and PZT-5 piezoelectric ceramic rings.Based on the principle of elastic mechanics and underwater particle velocity measurement,the receiving voltage sensitivity of the flexural beam vector hydrophone is derived.The influence of stress distribution in the flexural beam on the performance of hydrophones is analyzed,and the match between PMNPT single crystal cells and the structure of flexural beam is studied.The tested results indicate that the PMN-PT hydrophone presents an 11 dB increase in sensitivity and a 3 dB decrease in self-noise than the PZT-5 one. 展开更多

Time-modulated array(TMA)antennas,introduce the dimension of time into antenna design to control the radiation patterns and frequency spectral characteristics,thus improve the reconfigurability of array antennas and provide multiple functional-ities.They have great application potential in military and civilian fields,such as precision guidance and mobile communication,and are currently a hot spot of academic research.This article provides a review on the fundamentals and applications of TMAs.First,the basic theory and mathematical formulations of TMAs are introduced.Second,the most important applications of TMAs,namely time-modulated phased arrays(TMPA),are discussed from the perspectives of harmonic suppression and harmonic utiliza-tion,which are used for single-beam and multibeam radiation.Then,we survey the combination of TMA with various types of novel antenna arrays,such as single-channel digital beamforming(DBF)arrays,frequency diverse arrays(FDAs),and retrodirective arrays,to create new hardware implementation methods and enhance their performance.Next,recent advances in dedicated integrated chips for TMA,which have played a significant role in driving the progress of TMAs from academic research to practical applications,are presented.Finally,the challenges and prospects for TMAs are discussed,including new research directions and emerging applica-tion scenarios. 展开更多
