Considerations in the management of single-piece intraocular lenses outside the capsular bag

AIM: To investigate the outcomes of off label singlepiece acrylic intraocular lenses(SPA-IOL) ciliary sulcus placement compared to three-piece IOL(3P-IOL). METHODS: The charts of eight consecutive eyes of patients who received sulcus-placed SPA-IOLs between 2006 and 2009 were reviewed. None of the patients underwent IOL exchange. Charts of six age-matched patients who received sulcus placed 3P-IOLs were reviewed as a control group. RESULTS: Mean follow up was 16 mo for SPA-IOL and 23 mo for 3P-IOL. Five of 8 patients in the SPA-IOL group required chronic use of IOP lowering medications at final follow up. Of these, one patient needed glaucoma implant surgery for uncontrolled IOP. One patient in the 3P-IOL group used chronic aqueous suppression pre- and postoperatively. Four of eight eyes with SPAIOL were treated with chronic topical steroids and or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for cystoid macu-la edema, chronic uveitis, pigment dispersion syndrome or a combination of the above, compared to none in the control group. Mean best-corrected visual acuity was 20/35 in the SPA-IOL group and 20/47 in the 3PIOL group.CONCLUSION: Sulcus placed SPA-IOLs are associated with increased ocular morbidity. In select cases good visual acuity may be achieved. Due to postoperative rotation of sulcus placed toric SPA-IOLs stable astigmatism correction cannot be achieved. Alternative intraocular lenses should be considered when in-the-bag placement of SPA-IOL is not possible. 展开更多

As a novel three dimensional digital image correlation (3D DIC) method, the bi-prism-based single lens (BSL) 3D DIC method has been proposed and developed in recent years. Making use ofa bi-prism, this method is able to perform a 3D DIC measurement using only a single camera. Thus, the integration level of a BSL 3D DIC system could be much higher than that of the double-camera 3D DIC system. In this paper, using a small-angle bi-prism and a camera with a longer focal length, a special BSL 3D DIC system with a long working distance is designed for measurements in extreme environments. The principle of the system is first studied, and practical methods are then proposed for the system set-up and the determination of system parameters. Then, feasibility of the measurement system is verified by out-of-plane rigid-body translation tests. Finally, the BSL 3D DIC system is proven to be capable of combining with a high-temperature testing instrument to perform deformation tests in a high-temperature environment of up to 1500℃. 展开更多

The developmental situation of space welding technology at home and abroad is introduced. Then it is put forward that the designing scheme and the computer aided design (CAD) method of main single lens of the domestic space electron beam gun with equal-diameter three-cylinder simple lens, and the flowing-pipe way of calculating the space charge density of the main lens area ,in the electron gun is analyzed. The parameters calculation of the focusing system is completed through Language C utilizing computer programming and a satisfying result is gotten. The result shows that the calculation and design method are correct : the dispersed focusing current of electron beam is less, the beam section is less in the deflected magnetic field, the minimal radius of beam spot on the workpiece is about 0.65615mm, and all these can meet the requirements of the space welding and cutting. 展开更多
