文摘While heavy rainfall frequently takes place in southern China during summer monsoon seasons, quantitative precipitation forecast skills are relatively poor. Therefore, detailed knowledge about the raindrop size distribution(DSD)is useful in improving the quantitative precipitation estimation and forecast.Based on the data during 2018-2022 from 86stations in a ground-based optical disdrometer measurement network, the characteristics of the DSD in Guangdong province are investigated in terms of the particle size distribution(N(D)),mass-weighted mean diameter(Dm) and other integral DSD parameters such as radar reflectivity(Z),rainfall rate(R) and liquid water content(LWC).In addition, the effects of geographical locations, weather systems(tropical cyclones, frontal systems and the summer monsoon) and precipitation types on DSD characteristics are also considered. The results are shown as follows.1) Convective precipitation has a broader N(D) and larger mean particle diameter than the stratiform precipitation, and the DSD observations in Guangdong are consistent with the three-parameter gamma distribution. The relationships between the Z and R for stratiform and convective precipitation are also derived for the province,i.e.,Z=332.34 R1.32and Z=366.26R1.42which is distinctly different from that of the Next-generation Weather Radar(NEXRAD) Z-R relationship in United States.2) In the rainy season(April-September),the Dm, R and LWC are larger than those in the dry season(OctoberMarch). Moreover the above parameters are larger, especially in mid-May,which is the onset of the South China Sea summer monsoon.3) The spatial analysis of DSD shows that the coastal station observations indicate a smaller Dmand a larger normalized intercept parameter(log10Nw),suggestive of maritime-like rainfall.Dmis larger and log10Nwis smaller in the inland area, suggestive of continental-like rainfall.4) Affected by such weather systems as the tropical cyclone, frontal system and summer monsoon, the DSD shows characteristics with distinct differences.Furthermore, frontal system rainfall tends to present a continental-like rainfall, tropical cyclone rainfall tends to have a maritime-like rainfall, and summer monsoon rainfall characteristic are between maritime-and continental-like cluster(raindrop concentration and diameter are higher than continental cluster and maritime cluster, respectively.)

文摘The characteristics of the raindrop size distribution(DSD)during regional freezing rain(FR)events that occur throughout the phase change(from liquid to solid)are poorly understood due to limited observations. We investigate the evolution of microphysical parameters and the key formation mechanisms of regional FR using the DSDs from five disdrometer sites in January 2018 in the Jianghan Plain(JHP)of Central China.FR is identified via the size and velocity distribution measured from a disdrometer, the discrete Fréchet distancemethod, surface temperature, human observations, and sounding data. With the persistence of precipitation, the emergence of graupel or snowflakes significantly reduces the proportion of FR.The enhancement of this regional FR event is mainly dominated by the increase in the number concentration of raindrops but weakly affected by the diameters. To improve the accuracy of quantitative precipitation estimation for the FR event,a modified second-degree polynomial relation between the shapeμand slopeΛof gamma DSDs is derived, and a new Z-R(radar reflectivity to rain rate)relationship is developed. The mean values of mass-weighted mean diameters(D_(m))and generalized intercepts(lgN_(w))in FR are close to the stratiform results in the northern region of China. Both the melting of tiny-rimed graupels and large-dry snowflakes are a response to the formation of this regional FR process in the JHP,dominated by the joint influence of the physical mechanism of warm rain, vapor deposition, and aggregation/riming coupled with the effect of weak convective motion in some periods.

文摘Compressing supercapacitor(SCs)electrode is essential for improving the energy storage characteristics and minimizing ions’distance travel, faradaic reactions, and overall ohmic resistance.Studies comprising the ion dynamics in SC electrodes under compression are still rare. So,the ionic dynamics of five aqueous electrolytes in electrodes under compression were studied in this work for tracking electrochemical and structural changes under mechanical stress.A superionic state is formed when the electrode is compressed until the micropores match the dimensions with the electrolyte’s hydrated ion sizes, which increases the capacitance. If excessive compression is applied, the accessible pore regions decrease, and the capacitance drops.Hence,as the studied hydrated ions have different dimensions, the match between ion/pore sizes differs. To the LiOH and NaClO4electrolytes,increasing the pressure from 60 to 120 and 100 PSI raised the capacitance from 13.5 to 35.2 F g^(-1)and 30.9 to 39.0 F g^(-1),respectively.So,the KOH electrolyte with the lowest and LiCl with the biggest combination of hydrated ion size have their point of maximum capacitance(39.5 and 36.7F g^(-1))achieved at 140 and 80 PSI,respectively. To LiCl and KCl electrolytes, overcompression causes a drop in capacitance higher than 23%.

文摘Characteristics of raindrop size distribution during summer are studied by using the data from six Parsivel disdrometers located in the northeastern Tibetan Plateau. The analysis focuses on convective and stratiform precipitation at high altitudes from 2434 m to 4202 m.The results show that the contribution of stratiform and convective precipitation with rain rate between 1≤R<5 mm h^(-1) to the total precipitation increases with altitude, and the raindrop scale and number concentration of convective precipitation is larger than that for stratiform precipitation. The droplet size spectra of both stratiform and convective precipitation shows a single peak with a peak particle size between 0.31–0.50 mm,and they have essentially the same peak particle size and number concentration at the same altitude. The maximum spectral widths of stratiform clouds are between 4 mm and 5 mm,while those of convective clouds range from 4 mm to 8 mm.The Gamma distribution is more suitable than the Marshall-Palmer distribution in terms of the actual raindrop spectrum distribution. The stratiform precipitation particles are smaller with higher number concentration, while the opposite is true for the convective precipitation particles. The convective precipitation particles drop faster than stratiform precipitation particles when the particle size exceeds 2 mm,and the falling velocity of raindrops after standard curve fitting is underestimated during the observation period. Moreover, conventional radar estimation methods would underestimate the precipitation in the Northeastern Tibetan Plateau.

文摘Microphysical characteristics of the raindrop size distribution(RSD)in Typhoon Morakot(2009) have been studied through the PARSIVEL disdrometer measurements at one site in Fujian province,China during the passage of the storm from 7 to 10 August 2009.The time evolution of the RSD reveals different segments of the storm.Significant difference was observed in the microphysical characteristics between the outer rainband and the eyewall;the eyewall precipitation had a broader size distribution(a smaller slope) than the outer rainband and eye region. The outer rainband and the eye region produced stratiform rains while the eyewall precipitation was convective or mixed stratiform-convective.The RSD was typically characterized by a single peak distribution and well represented by the gamma distribution. The relations between the shape(μ)and slope(Λ)of the gamma distribution and between the reflectivity(Z)and rainfall rate(R)have been investigated.Based on the NW-Dm relationships,we suggest that the stratiform rain for the outer rainband and the eye region was formed by the melting of graupel or rimed ice particles, which likely originated from the eyewall clouds.

文摘The Mg-Gd-Y-Zn-Zr alloys are representational and potential age-hardening systems as reported in the past ten years, but their mechanical properties are still dependent on the grain size and its distribution. The effect of bimodal structure on mechanical properties of Mg-8Gd-3Y-0.5Zr alloy with bimodal grain size distributions was investigated. The results suggested that the volume fraction of fine grain(FG)and coarse grain(CG)could be controlled by combined processes of hot forging, extrusion and annealing. And for the present alloys with bimodal grain size distribution, the improvement of strength is still attributed to the grain refinement. The morphology of bimodal grain size distribution has a marked impact on the ductility of the alloy,i.e.with the increase of coarse grain volume fraction, the elongation to failure increases at the beginning and then decreases. The mechanism of the toughening effect of bimodal grain size distribution on the Mg-Gd-Y-Zn-Zr alloys with bimodal grain size structure has been discussed.
文摘Nanobubble flotation technology is an important research topic in the field of fine mineral particle separation. The basic characteristics of nanobubbles, including their size, concentration, surface zeta potential, and stability have a significant impact on the nanobubble flotation performance. In this paper, bulk nanobubbles generated based on the principle of hydrodynamic cavitation were investigated to determine the effects of different parameters(e.g.,surfactant(frother)dosage,air flow, air pressure, liquid flow rate, and solution pH value)on their size distribution and zeta potential,as measured using a nanoparticle analyzer. The results demonstrated that the nanobubble size decreased with increasing pH value, surfactant concentration, and cavitation-tube liquid flow rate but increased with increasing air pressure and increasing air flow rate. The magnitude of the negative surface charge of the nanobubbles was positively correlated with the pH value, and a certain relationship was observed between the zeta potential of the nanobubbles and their size. The structural parameters of the cavitation tube also strongly affected the characteristics of the nanobubbles. The results of this study offer certain guidance for optimizing the nanobubble flotation technology.
文摘In the present study,AZ31 magnesium alloy sheets were processed by friction stir processing(FSP)to investigate the effect of the grain refinement and grain size distribution on the corrosion behavior.Grain refinement from a starting size of 16.4±6.8µm to 3.2±1.2µm was attained after FSP.Remarkably, bimodal grain size distribution was observed in the nugget zone with a combination of coarse(11.62±8.4µm)and fine grains(3.2±1.2µm).Due to the grain refinement,a slight improvement in the hardness was found in the nugget zone of FSPed AZ31.The bimodal grain size distribution in the stir zone showed pronounced influence on the corrosion rate of FSPed AZ31 as observed from the immersion and electrochemical tests. From the X-ray diffraction analysis, more amount of Mg(OH)_(2) was observed on FSPed AZ31 compared with the unprocessed AZ31.Polarization measurements demonstrated the higher corrosion current density for FSPed AZ31(8.92×10^(−5)A/cm^(2))compared with the unprocessed condition(2.90×10^(−5)A/cm^(2))that can be attributed to the texture effect and large variations in the grain size which led to non-uniform galvanic intensities.

文摘Interconnectivity is the key characteristic of bone tissue engineering scaffold modulating cell migration, blood vessels invasion and transport of nutrient and waste. However, efforts and understanding of the interconnectivity of porous Mg is limited due to the diverse architectures of pore struts and pore size distribution of Mg scaffold systems. In this work, biomimetic hierarchical porous Mg scaffolds with tailored interconnectivity as well as pore size distribution were prepared by template replication of infiltration casting.Mg scaffold with better interconnectivity showed lower mechanical strength.Enlarging interconnected pores would enhance the interconnectivity of the whole scaffold and reduce the change of ion concentration,pH value and osmolality of the degradation microenvironment due to the lower specific surface area.Nevertheless, the degradation rates of five tested Mg scaffolds were no different because of the same geometry of strut unit.Direct cell culture and evaluation of cell density at both sides of four typical Mg scaffolds indicated that cell migration through hierarchical porous Mg scaffolds could be enhanced by not only bigger interconnected pore size but also larger main pore size.In summary, design of interconnectivity in terms of pore size distribution could regulate mechanical strength, microenvironment in cell culture condition and cell migration potential, and beyond that it shows great potential for personalized therapy which could facilitate the regeneration process.

文摘Internal erosion occurs when fine particles escape from the soil driven by seepage flow, which is considered to be the crucial factor causing the failure of earth structures filled with gravelly soil. The objective of this paper is to suggest an appropriate method to assess internal erosion potential of gravelly soil.By analyzing the sensitivity of soil material to internal erosion, the variable(Dc15/df85)max and the content of coarse particles(Pc)are selected as the evaluation indexes(Dc15 and df85 are the diameters of 15%mass passing in the coarse component and 85%mass passing in the fine component, respectively).A series of gravelly soils with different particle size distributions are tested for internal erosion by the self-made permeameter.Based on the test results,an evaluation method for the internal erosion of gravelly soil is proposed.Gravelly soil is prone to internal erosion when 60%≤Pc<95%and(Dc15/df85)max≥9.5.The proposed method shows good accuracy in evaluating the internal erosion of 36 soil samples from other studies, which confirms the reliability of the method. The proposed method makes it possible to accurately assess internal erosion of gravelly soil, and an alternative method is provided for engineers to determine whether there is a risk of internal erosion in earth structures consisting of gravelly soil.

文摘The weighted-sum-of-gray-gas(WSGG)model and Mie theory are applied to study the influents of particle size on the radiative transfer in high temperature homogeneous gas-particle mixtures, such as the flame in aero-engine combustor. The radiative transfer equation is solved by the finite volume method. The particle size is assumed to obey uniform distribution and logarithmic normal(L-N)distribution,respectively.Results reveal that when particle size obeys uniform distribution, increasing particle size with total particle volume fraction fvunchanged will result in the decreasing of the absolute value of radiative heat transfer properties, and the effect of ignoring particle scattering will also be weakened.Opposite conclusions can be obtained when total particle number concentration N0 is unchanged. Moreover,if particle size obeys L-N distribution, increasing the narrowness indexσor decreasing the characteristic diameter Dˉwith the total particle volume fraction fvunchanged will increase the absolute value of radiative heat transfer properties. With total particle number concentration N0 unchanged, opposite conclusions for radiative heat source and incident radiation terms can be obtained except for radiative heat flux term.As a whole, the effects of particle size on the radiative heat transfer in the high-temperature homogeneous gas-particle mixtures are complicated, and the particle scattering cannot be ignoring just according to the particle size.

文摘The objective of this research was to acquire a raindrop size distribution(DSDs)retrieved from C-band polarimetric radar observations scheme for the first time in south China. An observation period of the precipitation process was selected, and the shape-slope(μ-Λ)relationship of this region was statistically analyzed using the raindrop sample observations from the two-dimensional video disdrometer(2DVD)at Xinfeng Station,Guangdong Province.Simulated data of the C-band polarimetric radar reflectivity ZHHand differential reflectivity ZDRwere obtained through scattering simulation. The simulation data were combined with DSD fitting to determine the ZDR-Λand log10(ZHH/N0)-Λrelationships.Using Xinfeng C-band polarimetric radar observations ZDRand ZHH,the raindrop Gamma size distribution parametersμ,Λ,and N0were retrieved.A scheme for using C-band polarimetric radar to retrieve the DSDs was developed. This research revealed that during precipitation process, the DSDs obtained using the C-band polarimetric radar retrieval scheme are similar to the 2DVD observations, the precipitation characteristics of rainfall intensity(R),mass-weighted mean diameter(Dm)and intercept parameter(Nw)with time obtained by radar retrieval are basically consistent with the observational results of the 2DVD.This scheme establishes the relationship between the observations of the C-band polarimetric radar and the physical quantities of the numerical model. This method not only can test the prediction of the model data assimilation system on the convective scale and determine error sources, but also can improve the microphysical precipitation processes analysis and radar quantitative precipitation estimation. The present research will facilitate radar data assimilation in the future.

文摘Characterizing soil particle-size distribution is a key measure towards soil property. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the multifractal characteristics of soil particle-size distribution among different land-use from a purple soil catchment and to generalize the spatial variation trend of multifractal parameters across the catchment.A total of 84 soil samples were collected from four kinds of land use patterns(dry land, orchard, paddy, and forest)in an agricultural catchment in the Three Gorges Reservoir Region,China. The multifractal analysis method was applied to quantitatively characterize the soil particle size distribution.Six soil particle size distribution(PSD)multifractal parameters(D(0),D(1),D(2),(35)a(q),(35)f[a(q)],α(0))were computed.Additionally,a geostatistical analysis was employed to reveal the spatial differentiation and map the spatial distribution of these parameters.Evident multifractal characteristics were found. The trend of generalized dimension spectrum of four land use patterns was basically consistent with the range of 0.8 to 2.0.However,orchard showed the largest monotonic decline, while the forest demonstrated the smallest decrease.D(0)of the four land use patterns were ranked as:dry land<orchard<forest<paddy, the order of D(1)was:dry land<paddy<orchard<forest,D(2)presented a rand-size relationship as dry land<forest<paddy<orchard.Furthermore, all land-use patterns presented asΔf[α(q)]<0.The rand-size relationship ofα(0)was same as D(0).The best-fitting model for D(0),D(1),D(2)andΔf[α(q)]was spherical model, forΔα(q)was gaussian model, and forα(0)was exponential model with structure variance ratio was 1.03%,49.83%,0.84%,1.48%,22.20%and 10.60%,respectively.The results showed that soil particles of each land use pattern were distributed unevenly. The multifractal parameters under different land use have significant differences, except forΔα(q).Differences in the composition of soil particles lead to differences in the multifractal properties even though they belong to the same soil texture.Farming behavior may refine particles and enhance the heterogeneity of soil particle distribution. Our results provide an effective reference for quantifying the impact of human activities on soil system in the Three Gorges Reservoir region.

文摘Scholars often see the gas adsorption technique as a straight-to-interpret technique and adopt the pore size distribution(PSD)given by the gas adsorption technique directly to interpret pore-structure-related issues. The oversimplification of interpreting shale PSD based on monogeometric thermodynamic models leads to apparent bias to the realistic pore network. This work aims at establishing a novel thermodynamic model for shale PSD interpretation. We simplified the pore space into two geometric types—cylinder-shaped and slit-shaped.Firstly,Low-temperature Nitrogen Adsorption data were analyzed utilizing two monogeometric models(cylindrical and slit)to generate PSD_(cyl).and PSD_(slit);Secondly,pore geometric segmentation was carried out using Watershed by flooding on typical SEM images to obtain the ratio of slit-shaped(∅_(s))and cylinder-shaped pores(∅_(c)).Combining the results of the two,we proposed a novel hybrid model. We performed pyrolysis,XRD,FE-SEM observation, quantitative comparison with the results obtained by the DFT model, and fractal analysis to discuss the validity of the obtained PSD_(Hybrid).The results showed that:the hybrid model proposed in this work could better reflect the real geometry of pore space and provide a more realistic PSD;compared with thermodynamic monogeometric models,PSD obtained from the hybrid model are closer to that from the DFT model, with an improvement in the deviation from the DFT model from 5.06%to 68.88%.The proposed hybrid model has essential application prospects for better interpretation of shale pore space. It is also worth noting that we suggest applying the proposed hybrid model for PSD analysis in the range of 5-100 nm.

文摘Polyamines(PAs) are important endogenous plant growth regulators responding to environmental stress and mediating many physiological processes including grain filling in cereals. This study investigated whether PAs mediate the effect of post-anthesis soil drying on starch granule size distribution, starch content, and weight of superior and inferior kernels of wheat(Triticum aestivum L.).Two wheat cultivars were grown in pots.Three treatments,well-watered(WW),moderate soil drying(MD) and severe soil drying(SD),were imposed from 9 days post-anthesis until maturity.PA levels in kernels and small, medium and large granules were measured. The results showed that superior kernels had much higher free spermidine(Spd) and free spermine(Spm) concentrations, larger volumes of medium starch granules, and smaller-sized large granules than did inferior kernels under all the treatments.Compared to WW,MD significantly increased the concentrations of free Spd and free Spm,activities of soluble starch synthase and granule-bound starch synthase, volume of medium granules, and starch content and kernel weight of inferior kernels, and decreased the size of large granules.SD produced the opposite effect.Application of Spd or Spm to spikes produced effects similar to those of MD,and application of an inhibitor of Spd and Spm synthesis produced effects similar to those of SD.These results suggest that PAs mediate the effect of post-anthesis soil drying on starch biosynthesis in wheat kernels by regulating key enzymes in starch synthesis and that elevated PA levels under MD increase the volume of medium granules and kernel weight of inferior kernels.

文摘The study or pore characteristics is or great importance in reservoir evaluation, especially in deeply buried s andstone. It controls the storage mechanism and reservoir fluid properties of the permeable horizons. The first member of Eocene Shahejie Formation(Esl)sandstone is classified as feldspathic litharenite and lithic arkose. The present research investigates the pore characteristics and reservoir features of the deeply buried sandstone reservoir of Esl member of Shahejie Formation. The techniques including thin-section petrography, mercury injection capillary pressure(MICP),scanning electron microscopy and laser scanning confocal microscope images were used to demarcate the pores including primary intergranular pores and secondary intergranular, intragranular, dissolution and fracture pores.Mercury injection test and routine core analysis were led to demarcate the pore network characteristics of the studied reservoir.Pore size and pore throat size distribution are acquired from mercury injection test.Porosity values range from 0.5%to 30%,and permeability ranges 0.006-7000 mD.Pore radii of coarse-grained sandstone and fine-grained sandstone range from 0.2 to>4μm and 1 nm to 1.60μm,respectively,by MICP analysis. The mineral composition also plays an important role in protecting the pores with pressure from failure.Fractured sandstone and coarse-grained sandstone consist of large and interconnected pores that enhance the reservoir porosity and permeability, whereas fine-grained sandstone and siltstone consist of numerous pores but not well interconnected, and so they consist of high porosity with low permeability.

文摘Based on the laser diffraction and Shifrin transform, the measurement method of particle size distribution has been improved extensively. While in real measurements, some noise peaks exist in the inversion data and are easily to be misread as particle distribution peaks. The improved method used a truncation function as a filter is hard to distinguish adjacent peaks. Here,by introducing the bimodal resolution criterion, the filter function is optimized, and to a quasi truncation function with the optimized filter function is studied to achieve optimal bimodal resolution and to remove noise peaks. This new quasi truncation function fits multimode distribution very well.By combining the quasi truncation function with Shifrin transform, noise peaks are removed well and the adjacent peaks are distinguished clearly. Finally, laser diffraction experiments are conducted and the particle size distribution is analyzed by adoping the method. The results show that the quasi truncation function has better bimodal resolution than the truncation function.Generally,by combining the quasi truncation function with the Shifrin transform,in particle size distribution measurements with laser diffraction, the bimodal resolution is greatly increased and the noise is removed well. And the results can restore the original distribution perfectly. Therefore, the new method with combination of the quasi truncation function and the Shifrin transform provides a feasible and effective way to measure the multimode particle size distribution by laser diffraction.
