These products belong to four skin care ranges (Aqua? , Perfecta? , Unica? and Comfort? ) and are formulated with a specific combination of active compounds (Dermo28? ). Evaluation of sebum secretion, hydration and pH of the skin (all groups), wrinkle severity (Unica Resurfacing Therapy? ) and erythema (Comfort Therapy? ) was performed at baseline and after 4 weeks of treatment. A significant increase in hydration was recorded in subjects with dry skin receiving Aqua Therapy? for facial hydration and Perfecta? for body hydration, respectively (p ? group. In subjects with sensitive skin (Comfort Therapy? ), a decrease in erythema (p = 0.012), an increase in sebum secretion (p = 0.001) and hydration (p < 0.001), and a reduction in pH (p = 0.005) were detected at the end of treatment. Only one patient reported a minor adverse event. This specific combination of active ingredients was clinically effective and safe, and contributed to skin surface hydrolipidic film regeneration, improvement of wrinkle depth and reduction of redness.展开更多

Volunteers were university students, workers of public institutions, and general population from San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Participants were not excluded based on socioeconomic status. Demographic data were obtained through a questionnaire. Skin phototype was obtained through colorimetry. Subjects were randomized to receive 10% lactic acid on one nasolabial fold and placebo on the other side. The presence and intensity of adverse sensations, such as itching, burning, or stinging, was evaluated through a 10-point VisualAnalogue Scale(VAS) prior to treatment and at 3, 5, 8 and 10 min after the intervention. Subjects with a VAS of 2 or higher were considered positive for the test. A VAS lower than 2 was considered a normal response to skin manipulation. Simultaneously, biophysical changes and barrier function were assessed by colorimetry, transepidermal water loss(TEWL), and capacitance. To decrease measurement variations by skin manipulation, the nasolabial fold was segmented in four areas of 1 cm2 for each time measurement. Descriptive analyses were made using central tendency measures. Analyses of data were performed using two-tailed c2 test, Fisher's test, t-test, logistic regression, or Mann-Whitney U test for non-parametric values between groups. RESULTS: Of the included 246 subjects, 68% were women and the mean age was 32 years. The most frequent skin phototype was Ⅴ(ranges Ⅱ-Ⅴ). Thirty-six percent of the subjects identified themselves as having sensitive skin. Fifty-two percent of the subjects were positive to the lactic acid stinging test, with a mean VAS of 4.5 at 3 min. Subjects with the self-diagnosis of sensitive skin were more likely to be positive for the test(80% vs 36%, P < 0.001). Lighter skin phototypes(types Ⅱ and Ⅲ) showed a higher response to the test compared to darker skin tones(type Ⅴ; OR = 0.88, P < 0.001). There were no statistical differences in baseline biophysical measurements. At 3 min, TEWL was significantly higher in subjects positive to the test(27.5 vs 23.7, P < 0.05). At 5 min, TEWL and capacitance showed statistical differences(26.0 vs 22.4, P < 0.05, and 239 vs 179, P < 0.05, respectively). After 5 min, values tended to return to baseline levels in both groups.CONCLUSION: Sensitive skin is frequent in our population. Darker skin phototypes have a lower prevalence of this syndrome, probably due to inherent differences in skin barrier function.展开更多

Objectives: Sensitive skin data from the developing world is sparse. This study evaluates the prevalence and characteristics of sensitive skin in China and compares data collected to existing data from the western world. Patients/Materials/Methods: A total of 408 Chinese women voluntarily completed a survey on sensitive skin. Results: Some degree of skin sensitivity was claimed by 94 (23%) of respondents;most (90.4%) said their skin was only slightly or moderately sensitive. Facial sensitivity was claimed by 21% of Chinese women, sensitivity of the body surface by 9% and genital sensitivity by only 6%. Small numbers of respondents reported a history of skin allergy (3%) or a familial history of sensitive skin (2%). Many reported making buying decisions based on product claims. Conclusions: Only 23% of Chinese women claimed any degree of sensitive skin, a prevalence substantially lower than that observed in most Western countries. Sensitivity of the genital skin, in particular, was dramatically lower, suggesting at least some cultural component to perceptions of sensitive skin.展开更多

The BSTI questionnaire has been tested over the last decade on over 200,000 people of various ages and ethnicities in different geographic locations around the world. In this study, data were collected from 52,862 patients to compare skin type prevalence between those who presented to doctor’s offices and those who took the quiz without supervision online. The most common skin types varied only slightly between patients that took the quiz online and those that completed the questionnaire in their doctor’s office. This indicates that the prevalence of skin types seen in the doctor’s office is similar to that in the general population and that supervision is not necessary to get an accurate result on the BSTI. [iii] In addition, comparison of data gathered in China, Korea, and the US did not show a significant difference in skin type prevalence between Asian and Caucasian skin types. [iv] This study demonstrates that the English version of the BSTI is valid for English speaking patients online, and in doctors’ offices in the US, China and Korea.展开更多

As such, these products need to be tested to evaluate their skin irritation and sensitization potential before use. The products were evaluated with two separate tests. The first test was conducted in a single-center, within-subject comparison using assessor-blind, randomised human skin irritation patch test (48 hour/96 hour exposure) and conducted on healthy adults with sensitive, atopic skin. The second test was conducted in a single-center, controlled (sterile water), within subject using human repeat-insult patch tests (HRIPTs) and conducted on healthy female Indonesian and Asian adult female subjects, with sensitive skin. The sensitization potential of each product was determined from International Contact Dermatitis Research Group (ICDRG) scores at 30 minutes, 24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours after patch removal. Skin irritation tests show that all products were significantly lower than the positive control sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) (p < 0.05) but not significantly different to the negative control (sterile water) in terms of irritation scores at the respective time points. HRIPTs results show that Cussons Baby Sensicare Range was non-sensitizing. As such, it can be concluded that the Cussons Baby Sensicare Range tested is well tolerated on skin and has low skin irritation and sensitization potential. Thus, they can be considered hypoallergenic on sensitive skin and suitable for eczema prone skin.展开更多

文摘AIM: To describe the frequency and biophysical response of sensitive skin in Mexican subjects, using the lactic acid test.METHODS: The lactic acid stinging test was applied to 250 healthy volunteers, both sexes, 18 years of age or older, without any active dermatoses on the test site. Darker skin phototypes have a lower prevalence of this syndrome, probably due to inherent differences in skin barrier function.

Conclusions: Only 23% of Chinese women claimed any degree of sensitive skin, a prevalence substantially lower than that observed in most Western countries. Sensitivity of the genital skin, in particular, was dramatically lower, suggesting at least some cultural component to perceptions of sensitive skin.
文摘In vitro skin sensitization testing methods based on the adverse outcome pathway(AOP)were used to evaluate the skin sensitization potencies of 5 commonly used preservatives.According to the“2 out of 3”principle of the integrated approaches to testing and assessment(IATA)the direct peptide reactivity assay(DPRA)and the human cell line activation test(h-CLAT)were used to detect the preservatives commonly used in cosmetics, including phenoxyethanol.methyl paraben, propyl paraben, imidazolidinyl urea and DMDM hydantoin. The DPRA and the h-CLA were carried out according to the OEC442C and 442E guidelines, respectively. The results show that.phenoxyethanol and methyl paraben are both negative in DPRA and h-CLAT while imidazolidinyl urea and DMDM hydantoin are both positive in these two tests.Propyl paraben has negative result in DPRA but positive result in h-CLAT.Therefore,imidazolidiny urea and DMDM hydantoin are sensitizers, while phenoxyethanol and methylparaben are non-sensitizers.Taken animal and human data into consideration,it is predicted that propyl paraben should be a non-sensitizer.The combination of DPRA and h-CLAT can make up for the limitations of using a single method, and it is suitable for the preliminary screening of cosmetic raw materials according to skin sensitization.
文摘To evaluate and discuss two novels in vitro alternative tests which based on the 2nd and 4th event of the AOP in skin sensitization and their application in skin sensitization evaluation of cosmetics in vitro. The DSens(DSens method)and Jurkat(TCPA method)were used as the test models and 9 of reference chemicals and 12 kinds of cosmetic products were used to confirm and assess the application capability in skin sensitization. The results showed that the DSens method was more sensitive to the reference chemicals compare to the TCPA method. All the results of cosmetic products showed a high consistency between these two assays and h-CLAT or in vivo assay. As the new screening method for skin sensitization evaluation of cosmetics, the in vitro alternative tests based on AOP have certain effectiveness. The reasonable combination strategy can bring a bright future for the development and application of animal alternative test in China.
文摘<strong>Purpose:</strong> To establish whether Curaderm, a topical pharmacotherapy for skin cancer, irritates or sensitizes normal skin. <strong>Methods:</strong> The dermal irritation and skin sensitization toxicity of Curaderm were investigated in rabbits and guinea pigs in compliance with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development guideline. To assess dermal irritation, rabbits were dermally exposed to Curaderm for varying periods of time. To assess hypersensitivity, the guinea-pig maximisation test was applied. <strong>Results:</strong> Curaderm was only negligibly irritating using the criteria of erythema and oedema. Curaderm did not produce any sensitization toxicity of the skin. <strong>Conclusion:</strong> These studies confirm the non-toxic observations on normal skin experienced in the clinical setting when treating skin cancer and reinforce the specificity of Curaderm towards cancer cells.

文摘Sensitive skin is a clinical syndrome characterized by a hyper-reactive state of the skin, primarily on the face.It is accompanied by subjective symptoms such as burning, stinging, itching, and tightness when exposed to physical, chemical,or psychological stimuli. Objective signs, such as erythema, scales, and dilated blood vessels, may or may not be present. The discomfort associated with sensitive skin can be triggered by various endogenous and exogenous factors, which usually have no significant effect on the individual and do not induce irritant reactions.Sensitive skin often presents as a subjective state without clinical signs and exhibits diversity, posing challenges in sensitive skin research and care. This review summarizes the prevalence, key factors, pathophysiological mechanisms, diagnosis, and progress in daily care for sensitive skin. The aim is to provide a clearer and more systematic understanding of sensitive skin and offer guidance for sensitive skin care.
文摘The Baumann Skin Typing System diagnoses patients as having one of 16 skin types based on their answers to a validated questionnaire [i] known as the Baumann Skin Type Indicator [ii]. [iv] This study demonstrates that the English version of the BSTI is valid for English speaking patients online, and in doctors’ offices in the US, China and Korea.
文摘Introduction: The Cussons Baby Sensicare Range is a newly developed set of products specially formulated for newborn, sensitive and eczema prone skin. Thus, they can be considered hypoallergenic on sensitive skin and suitable for eczema prone skin.
文摘This study evaluated the effect of a fresh-milk cream on reducing skin erythema response in 30 subjects(23.87±0.34 years)by objective instrumental method. The model of skin erythema was established by tape stripping and histamine stimulation.Herein the skin erythema index(EI),skin sensitivity value and skin images of subjects were measured. The data was statistically analyzed by SPSS software. The results showed that the fresh-milk cream could continuously decrease the value of the histamine-stimulated area’s erythema index and skin sensitivity, and relieve the skin redness. It indicated that the fresh-milk cream had the functions of reducing skin erythema response and soothing the skin sensitivity.
