Design: A descriptive correlation design using self-administered surveys. Methods: Questionnaires on stress, fatigue and sleep quality (the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index;PSQI-J) among shift work nurses were distributed to 653 nurses in Japan from January 2015 to February 2015. Results: Participants who reported higher levels of fatigue reported higher levels of stress (r = 0.774, p = 0.000), lower levels of sleep satisfaction (r = −0.411, p = 0.000) and overall lower levels of health (r = −0.323, p = 0.000).PSQI scores were also significantly correlated with reported levels of stress (r = 0.294, p = 0.000), fatigue (r = 0.291, p = 0.000) and levels of health (r = −0.370, p = 0.000). Nurses who have stress-relieving recourses were younger (t = −2.842, p = 0.005), reported higher levels of overall health (t = 2.727, p = 0.007), had higher levels of sleep quality measured by the PSQI (t = −2.560, p = 0.011), and required less time to fall asleep (t = −3.207, p = 0.001). Conclusions: This study showed an association between stress and sleep satisfaction among shift work nurses in Japan. In addition, nurses that engage in activities to manage stress might achieve higher levels of health and high sleep quality.展开更多

In a hospital environment, such night shift is necessary so as to ensure the continuity of care. Sleep and vigilance disorders related to this work mode are frequent and often pose adaptation problems. The objective of this study is to detect the harmful effects of night shift on sleep, vigilance and the quality of life of nurses in Farhat Hached Teaching Hospital in Sousse. Material and Methods: It is a cross-sectional study carried out among two groups of nurses: one group performing a fixed night work and the other one working permanently during the day at Farhat Hached Teaching Hospital in Sousse. Data collection is mainly based on validated questionnaires evaluating sleep quality (Pittsburg sleep quality index), daytime sleepiness (Epworth sleepiness scale), sleep typology (Horne and Ostberg questionnaire), and the quality of life (SF-12). An objective evaluation of vigilance was realized by the study of reaction time and error rates to different tasks of “Super lab” software. Results: 50 night and 50 day nurses have been colligated. Both groups were age- and gender-matched. Sleep quality mean index was significantly higher among night nurses in comparison with day nurses (10.2 ± 5.9 versus 6.76 ± 5.16). After multivariate analysis, sleep quality was significantly correlated to age, department, schedule and the choice of schedule. Night shift was not related to daytime sleepiness. The objective analysis of vigilance showed that the reaction time to different tasks exploring the attentional mechanisms, as well as errors rate, were significantly more important among the night group. The mental score of the quality of life was significantly higher among day nurses. However, such difference was not significant with regard to physical score. Conclusion: The findings of our study highlight not only the alteration of the health and the well being of paramedical staff secondary to night shift, but also a possible threat to safety care lavished by these teams, which involves the necessity to undertake preventive measures on an individual and collective scale.展开更多

Subjective fatigue was evaluated using the Subjective Fatigue Symptom Questionnaire (SFSQ), a rating scale developed by the Working Group for Occupational Fatigue of the Japan Society for Occupational Health. Subjects were asked to continuously wear a Fitbit One to obtain the following data: time in bed (TIB), deep sleep time, length and frequency of nighttime awakening, sleep efficiency, waking time, and bed time. Nurses had a mean age and standard deviation of 33.2 ± 7.5 years and had worked as nurses for 9.8 ± 6.2 years on average. Eight nurses were in their 20s (42.1%), 5 in their 30s (26.3%), and 6 in their 40s (31.6%). All participants were female. Participants’ SFSQ scores calculated from the 9 evenings in the study period were averaged to establish a threshold for categorizing high-fatigue (HF) and low-fatigue (LF) groups. No significant differences were found between HF and LF nurses in terms of TIB, deep sleep time, nighttime awakening time or frequency, or sleep efficiency on any type of day (as classified by shift, day off, etc.). Nurses in both groups woke up significantly later on days off and on pre-night-shift days than on day-shift days. These results demonstrate the variation in sleep patterns of nurses on a rotating, two-shift system between day-shift and night-shift days.展开更多

This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted from December 2015 to January 2016. The participants were nurses who worked in public hospitals with 500 beds in the major cities and regional cities of Hokkaido. Fatigue was quantitatively assessed using the Cumulative Fatigue Symptoms Index (CFSI). Among nurses in their twenties, the rate of complaints about anxiety and decrease in vitality were high, which was replaced with complaints about irritability among nurses in their thirties. The most popular complaint among nurses in their forties was general fatigue. There was no difference in complaint ratios concerning the workplace location among nurses in their twenties and thirties, nurses in their forties working in suburban areas complained about fatigue more than their urban area. Nurses with sleep problems related to anxiety have a significantly higher complaint rate for all the eight items of CFSI compared with the nurses who do not have such problems (p < 0.001). This is an intermediate report and is part of a study that aims to develop a health management program for hospital nurses regarding fatigue and sleep.展开更多

文摘BACKGROUND Psychological intervention nursing(PIN)has been considered to have a curative effect on cesarean section(CS)post-operative recovery. However, the therapeutic mechanisms remain obscure.AIM To explore the effects of PIN combined with acupressure massage on CS postoperative recovery.METHODS A retrospective study was conducted on 150 pregnant women admitted to an obstetrics department between January 2020 and January 2023.The control group(CG)received acupressure therapy(n=73),and the intervention group(IG)received acupressure therapy and PIN therapy(n=77).Postoperative recovery time was assessed by anal-exhausting,defecation,bed activity, breastfeeding, and hospital stay times.Adverse effects, including infection, bleeding, limb numbness, intrauterine hematoma, urinary retention, and venous thromboembolism, were recorded.the pain visual analogue scale(VAS)was used to evaluate the degree of pain.Anxiety and depression status were qualitatively assessed using the selfrating anxiety scale(SAS),self-rating depression scale(SDS),and Edinburgh postpartum depression scale(EPDS).The Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI)was used to compare sleep quality between the groups.RESULTS The baseline data and SAS,SDS,EPDS,and PSQI scores did not significantly differ before CS(P>0.05)and neither did complication rates between the two groups after CS(P>0.05).However,anal-exhausting,defecation,waking up,breastfeeding, and hospitalization times were significantly shorter for participants in the IG than those for participants in the CG(P<0.05).The VAS,SAS,SDS,EPDS,and PSQI scores of the IG were significantly lower than those of the CG(P<0.05).CONCLUSION PIN,combined with acupressure massage, effectively promotes maternal recovery, reduces post-CS pain, and improves post-operative negative emotions and sleeping quality.
文摘Objective:The aim of the study was to evaluate the quality of sleep in nurses performing shift work in therapeutic and surgical depar tments and to establish possible relationships between level of blood pressure(BP)and quality of sleep. Methods:A total of 20 nurses of the therapeutic depar tments and 20 nurses of the surgical depar tments were enrolled in the study.Sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI).BP was measured according to the standard protocol using the Korotkoff method;a sphygmomanometer was used for this twice with an interval of 2 min between 10:00 a.m.and 10:30 a.m.The average value for the 2 indicators was calculated. The diagnosis of essential ar terial hyper tension(AH)was established according to the recommendations of the European Association of Cardiology and the European Association of Hypertension(2018).Results:The overall assessment of the sleep quality of the nurses involved in shift work indicates poor sleep quality;this was true in respondents of both the surgical and therapeutic profiles. However,it was observed that the quality of sleep was significantly lower in nurses of the therapeutic departments. Moreover, poor sleep quality was associated with AH,which was diagnosed in 65%of the nurses of the therapeutic departments and 45%of the nurses of the surgical departments, that is,in almost all of the subjects.Herewith,in the nurses of the therapeutic departments, the level of systolic BP exceeded that of the nurses of the surgical departments. Conclusions:Poor sleep quality is a significant risk factor for AH development and is relevant to nurses performing shift work.Additional clinical studies should be conducted to better understand the mechanisms underlying such adverse cardiometabolic outcomes associated with sleep disorders in the health-sector shift workers.
文摘Objectives:To examine the association between social media addiction and sleep quality among undergraduate nursing students. Methods:This research is an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique was purposive sampling of 150 nursing students at a private university in Malang,Indonesia.Respondents filled out a questionnaire about self-identity,a sleep quality questionnaire from the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI),and social media addiction from Social Media Addiction Scale(SMAS).This was a bivariate analysis which was conducted using the Pearson Product Moment Correlation test. Results:The results of this study reported that most nursing students were addicted to social media(76%).As for the parameter of the quality variable, most respondents had poor sleep quality, which were about 106 people(70.3%).The result of the Pearson Product Moment Correlation test obtained a P value of 0.000.The Pearson correlation coefficient was 0.358.Social media addiction(adjusted odds ratio[OR]4.80,95%confidence interval[CI]=2.08-11.02),gender(adjusted OR 3.79,95%CI=1.58-9.12),and using social media for a long time(adjusted OR 4.21,95%CI=1.97-10.48)were associated with sleep quality. Conclusions:We found that there is an association between social media addiction and sleep quality among nursing students.Furthermore,we might be educating nursing students to manage their time to improve their quality of sleep to avoid any health problems.
文摘Purpose: To investigate the relationship between stress, fatigue and sleep quality among shift work nurses in Japan. In addition, nurses that engage in activities to manage stress might achieve higher levels of health and high sleep quality.
文摘BACKGROUND Gastroparesis is a common digestive disorder characterized by delayed gastric emptying, which can lead to symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and poor appetite.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)has been used for centuries to treat gastrointestinal disorders, including gastroparesis.TCM theory suggests that spleen and stomach qi deficiency syndrome is one of the main pathogenic factors in gastroparesis.Nursing care plays an important role in the treatment of gastroparesis, and TCM nursing interventions have shown promising results in improving patient outcomes. However, there is limited research on the clinical effectiveness of TCM nursing interventions for gastroparesis with spleen stomach deficiency syndrome. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical effect of TCM nursing intervention in the treatment of gastroparesis with spleen stomach deficiency syndrome and to compare it with routine nursing interventions.AIM To analyze the clinical effect of traditional Chinese medicine nursing intervention in the treatment of gastric paraplegia with spleen stomach deficiency syndrome.METHODS From January 2020 to July 2021,80 patients with gastroparesis of spleen stomach qi deficiency type diagnosed in our hospital were selected for the study. The 80 patients were randomly divided into a control group and an experimental group, with 40 cases in each group.During the treatment period, the control group received routine nursing interventions, while the experimental group received traditional Chinese medicine nursing procedures.Compare the nursing effects of the two groups and observe the changes in traditional Chinese medicine symptom scores, pain levels, and sleep quality before and after treatment.RESULTS After treatment, comparing the treatment effects of the two groups, the total effective rate of the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control group, with statistical significance(P<0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in the TCM symptom score, visual analogue scale(VAS)score, and Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI)score between the two groups before treatment(P>0.05).However,after treatment, the TCM syndrome scores,VAS scores, and PSQI scores of the experimental group were significantly lower than those of the control group, with a statistically significant difference(P<0.05).CONCLUSION In the clinical nursing intervention of patients with mild gastroparesis due to spleen and stomach qi deficiency, the traditional Chinese medicine nursing plan has good clinical application value and nursing effect, and has a good effect on improving patients’pain and sleep quality.

文摘Introduction: The exposure to shift works, and especially to night shift, goes against the circadian rythmicity of the social man, which brings about a multitude of disruptive effects on health. Conclusion: The findings of our study highlight not only the alteration of the health and the well being of paramedical staff secondary to night shift, but also a possible threat to safety care lavished by these teams, which involves the necessity to undertake preventive measures on an individual and collective scale.
文摘Objectives:To summarize evidence in the literature on the predictors of insomnia in adults and to determine correspondences with diagnostic indicators of the NANDA-I diagnosis Insomnia. Methods:An integrative review performed in Pubmed,Virtual Health Library and CINAHL.Forty-eight articles published in Portuguese,English or Spanish from 2011 to 2018 were included. An analysis of correspondence between the predictors and the NANDA-I related factors and associated conditions for Insomnia was performed. Results:There was a correspondence of the predictors found in this review with NANDA-I related factors and associated conditions, except for grieving and frequent naps during the day.Smoking, caffeine intake, dysfunctional sleep beliefs, obesity and caregiver role strain are possible new related factors;chronic illness is a possible new associated condition and individuals going through changes in marital status, economically disadvantaged, female gender, increasing age and night shift worker are possible new at-risk populations. Conclusion:The predictors of insomnia that had a correspondence with the NANDA-I elements can support the evidence base of the nursing diagnosis. The predictors found without a correspondence with the diagnosis can be considered for inclusion in the NANDA-I classification, thereby supporting the clinical reasoning of nurses and students.
文摘Objective:To observe the effect of auricular point pressing combined with nursing based on syndrome differentiation in the treatment of insomnia patients. Methods:Totally 92 patients with insomnia were randomly divided into the observation groupgiven auricular point pressing combined with nursing care based on syndrome differentiation and the control group treated with auricular point pressing alone. The improvement of Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI),TCM Syndrome Score and nursing satisfaction were compared between the 2 groups. Results:The time effect of PSQI total score and 6 factors in both groups were statistically significant(P<0.05).The time effect, interaction effect and inter-group effect of subjective sleep quality,PSQI total score were statistically significant(P<0.05);the 4 inter-group factors of sleep quality, sleep latency, sleep duration and daytime function were statistically significant(P<0.05).The total score of TCM syndromes in the observation group was lower than that in the control group(P<0.05),and the satisfaction rate in the observation group higher than that in the control group(80.43%vs.60.86%,P<0.05).Conclusion:Auricular point pressing combined withnursing based on syndrome differentiation can effectively improve the sleep quality of insomnia patients, and has significant advantages in improving TCM syndromes,as well as gained higher nursing satisfaction from patients.
文摘Aims:The aim of this article is to explore the relation of sleep quality, anxiety status, fatigue level and psychological resilience among rotating‑shift nurses, thus,to propose solutions and promote physical and psychological health of shift nurses. Methods:The cross‑sectional survey was performed on 263 clinical nurses recruited from three tertiary hospitals of Xinxiang City,Henan Province,China from October 2017 to June 2018.The questionnaire survey was conducted using Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI)for measuring nurses’sleep quality, connor‑davidson resilience scale(CD‑RISC)for measuring their psychological resilience, self‑rating anxiety scale(SAS)for measuring their anxiety status, and Fatigue‑14 Scale for measuring their fatigue. The relationship among above indicators were analysed using Pearson correlation analysis. The mediating effect of psychological resilience on the process of sleep quality impacting anxiety and fatigue was analyzed using Wen’s causual steps method and linear regression. Results:The mean CD‑RISC score of shift nurses was 57.76±11.90,which indicated that resilience level was at a medium level. The mean of PSQI,SAS and total fatigue score was(7.53±2.83),(50.56±9.57)and(7.81±9.42),respectively.Resilience could negatively predict the anxiety state(β=−0.366,P<0.01)and fatigue(β=−0.197,P<0.01).Sleep quality could positively predict anxiety(β=0.395,P<0.01)and fatigue level(β=0.495,P<0.01)for shift nurses. The mediating effects of resilience upon sleep quality and anxiety or fatigue was 0.044 and 0.026,respectively.Conclusion:The resilience could fuel sleep quality and reduce the occurrence of negative emotion and fatigue among shift nurses.
文摘The objective of this study was to determine if sleep indicators are associated with subjective fatigue in nurses working in a rotating, two-shift system with a 16-hour night shift, using the wearable device Fitbit One. These results demonstrate the variation in sleep patterns of nurses on a rotating, two-shift system between day-shift and night-shift days.
文摘The objective of this study was to investigate the state of fatigue and sleep among clinical nurses in Japan. This is an intermediate report and is part of a study that aims to develop a health management program for hospital nurses regarding fatigue and sleep.

文摘Minimally invasive surgeries, including laparoscopic, endoscopic, and robotic surgeries, have gained great popularity and have gradually replaced conventional open surgeries.Commonly, patients may have perioperative psychological issues such as anxiety, depression, sleep disturbance, and delirium.A comprehensive literature review was conducted to identify how these psychological issues occur in minimally invasive surgeries and how nurses can take better care of patients to alleviate these issues.Only papers focusing on psychological issues during the perioperative period were included in the re-view,and preexisting issues before the setting of surgical treatment plan were not discussed.Compared to conventional surgeries, the incidence of postoperative anxiety, preoperative depression, and sleep disturbance is lower in minimally invasive surgeries, the incidence of postoperative depression may be higher with limited evidence, and the incidence of preoperative anxiety and delirium is inconclusive.Systematic perioperative nursing programs not only alleviate psychological issues, but also reduce postsurgical complications and accelerate recovery. However, special nursing programs to handle delirium are lacking.
