Indicate the Ways in which‘The Destructors’and‘The Blush’Deal with Cultural and Social Issues Pertinent to the Time in Which They Were Written

The Second World War exerted tremendous influence on British society.The way British people think also changed to different extents.The British society was enveloped in haze and fear,while works revealing the social reality were produced.Adopt⁃ing critical thinking,this essay compared‘The Destructors’and‘The Blush’to explore how the backgrounds,characters,themes and unexpected factors in respective works are related to cultural and social issues of the post-war time.It also revealed the effects of the Second World War on the society.

Social Issues in Proposals

During the annual session of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) that concluded on March 14,1,992 of the total 2,236 members at the beginning of their five-year term in China’s top advisory body submitted 4,772 proposals. Members of the CPPCC National Committee put forward proposals to offer comments and suggestions on major po- litical and social issues of the country.A proposal can be raised by one member or a group of members;by one or more groups jointly;in the name of a party or non-government group that has joined the CPPCC;or in the name of a sub- committee of the CPPCC National Committee. Out of the proposals that were classified during the conference,1,863 or 41.16 percent were on economic matters;1,405 or 31.04 percent were on education,scientific research,entertainment,health care and sports;and 1,258 proposals or 27.8 percent were on legal affairs and social seeurity. During the pnst five years,the CPPCC National Committee handled over 23,000 proposals,of which 21,843 were sent to government branches in charge of the matters for solution. Sustainability and Public Engagement in Mining： The Role of Engineers

Social issues are increasingly recognized as significant inhibitors to mineral development projects. Increasingly, social risk is being recognized as a key factor determining the success of a mineral investment. Groups opposed to a mine for social or political reasons otten use environmental impacts, real or perceived, to prevent mine development. These risk factors depend largely on cultural perceptions of mining activities and must be understood as such in order to be appropriately managed. A first step to addressing social issues is inclusive, transparent and meaningful engagement of stakeholders. This process allows stakeholders to understand what the other parties value in order to collectively establish a common currency for development and the creation of mutual value. Expanding the scope of benefits and values a mine can bring is of increasing importance to mining companies who typically consult outside specialists remote from the mine site and late in the development timeline for this purpose. Training technical staff, engineers and geologists, who make initial and ongoing contact with local interests, in a holistic approach to mine development is crucial to successful and economic mineral development projects. Further extending this conversation to the genera/ public, media governments and non-govemmental organizations is a necessary step in developing a meaningful discourse on the benefit of mining activities.

This paper presents some results of sustainable urban-planning development in Moscow Capital Region. Moscow City and Moscow Region （Moscow Oblast） are the parts of the Moscow Capital Region. According to the Constitution of Russia, adopted in December 1993, Moscow Region and Moscow City are two independent federal subjects of Russian Federation. The sustainable development of Moscow City and Moscow Region as an integrated regional economic and natural complex which plays the most important part in Russia＇s economy must be based on the integrated solution to the problems of environmental protection, social equity, and economic feasibility. The latest initiative of Russian Government concerns the creation of the Greater Moscow within the new borders of Moscow. Making the decision on the extension of the city limits and stimulation of the Moscow Agglomeration development provides the real way of resolution of the accumulated problems and provides enormous impetus to the sustainable development. The key task of the environmentally sound development of the Greater Moscow is to relieve the historical center of Moscow City; maintain the rational balance of built-up areas, natural and rural landscapes; ensure joint control of the urban development and economic activity; and create the favorable environment for the population.
