The solidified structure of the thin-walled and complicated Ti-6AI-4V castings produced by the vertical centrifugal casting process was studied in the present work. The results show that the wall thickness of the section is featured with homogeneously distributed fine equiaxial grains, compared with the microstructure of the thick-walled section. The grain size of the castings has a tendency to decrease gradually with the increasing of the centrifugal radius. The inter-lamellar space in thick-walled casting parts is bigger than that of the thin-walled parts, and the profile of inter-lamellar space is not susceptible to the centrifugal radius. 展开更多

Al2O3/A356-La alloy composites were fabricated by squeeze casting, and the effects of La on the solidified structure and the solute segregation during alloy solidification were studied. The results indicate that the structure of the matrix alloy becomes fine and small by the addition of La. La has been richened at the interface to help improve the wettability between the fiber and Al alloy, but there are no intermetallic compounds richening La found at the interface yet. There is no special influence of La on the Mg segregation in the matrix alloy. The distribution of Mg and La in the composites has been at the same position--near the interface. 展开更多

The evolution of solidified structure of S50C steel during heat treatment in compact strip production process was studied through an ultra-high-temperature confocal scanning laser microscope.It was found that the solidified structure consisted of dendritic crystals with secondary dendrite arm spacing ranging in 32-120μm,where carbon segregation was evident,and the dendrite arms wereα-Fe.The insignificant change was observed at a soaking temperature of 1180℃,whereas at 1300℃,the finer structure firstly disappeared,and then,the coarsening decreased,indicating that carbon tended to be homogenized.Therefore,the microsegregation was improved at 1300℃for 15 min.The phase transformation ofα-Fe→γ-Fe enhanced the carbon diffusion,and the evolution of the equivalent radius req was controlled by carbon diffusion.The diffusion coefficient of carbon(D=15μm2/s)was determined by using the inverse problem method. 展开更多

Achieving a uniform structure with few defects in heavy steel ingot is of high commercial importance. In this present work, in order to verify the potential of pulsed magneto-oscillation(PMO) applied in the production of heavy ingot, an induction coil was located at the hot top of the steel ingot to develop a novel technique, named hot top pulsed magneto oscillation(HPMO). The influences of HPMO on the solidification structure, macro segregation and compactness of a cylindrical medium carbon steel ingot with the weight of 160 kg were systematically investigated by optical microscope(OM) and laser induced breakdown spectroscopy original position metal analyzer(LIBSOPA-100). The results show that HPMO not only causes significant grain refinement and promotes the occurrence of columnar to equiaxed transition(CET) but also can homogenize the carbon distribution and enhance the compactness of the steel ingot. Therefore, HPMO technique has the potential to be applied in the production of heavy steel ingots on an industrial scale. 展开更多

Ultrasonic arc spray atomization (UASA) method was used to prepare high-melting-point, immiscible AgNi15 (mass fraction, %) composite particles. Sieving was used to determine the size distribution of the AgNi15 particles. The morphology, rapidly solidified structure and metastable solution expansion of the AgNi15 particles were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), respectively. The results show that the AgNi15 composite particles are spherical and well-dispersed, and the mass fractions of the particles with diameters <74μm and <55 μm are 99.5% and 98%, respectively. The rapidly solidified structure of the AgNi15 particles consists of spherical nickel-richβ(Ni)-phase particles dispersed throughout a silver-richα(Ag)-phase matrix andα(Ag)-phase nanoparticles dispersed throughout largerβ(Ni)-phase particles. The silver and nickel in the AgNi15 particles form a reciprocally extended metastable solution, and the solid solubility of nickel in the silver matrix at room temperature is in the range of 0.16%?0.36% (mole fraction). 展开更多
