The"spleen"in traditional Chinese medicine is the"acquired foundation"and the"source of qi and blood biochemistry".Strengthening the"spleen"is one of the important treat‐ment methods in traditional Chinese medicine; The gut microbiota has been a hot topic in modern scientific research in recent years, and its nutritional and immune functions correspond to some of the functions of the spleen in traditional Chinese medicine. In terms of philosophy, traditional Chinese medicine emphasizes the balance between the spleen and the gut microbiota, emphasizing the importance of supporting the right and eliminating evil, preventing diseases before they occur, seeking the root cause of treat‐ment, and adapting measures to the three causes;Clinically, the treatment of obesity, con‐stipation, diarrhea and other diseases by invigorating the spleen and the treatment mechanism of acupuncture and moxibustion, chiropractic and invigorating the spleen are all related to microecology. This article combines relevant literature on traditional Chinese medicine's"spleen"and"spleen health"to explore the treatment concept, clinical application, and correlation with intestinal microbiota of traditional Chinese medicine's"spleen health".It also elaborates on the latest literature, aiming to exchange ideas with peers and promote research on the microbiota of traditional Chinese medicine's"spleen". 展开更多

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and type 2 diabetes are common comorbidities or target organ damage, which can lead to adverse metabolism and increased risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. In the management plan of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and type 2 diabetes, there is no drug with significant efficacy or both. The dialectical idea of traditional Chinese medicine has a good curative effect and significant advantages in treating metabolic disorders. The author now reviewed a case of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis combined with type 2 diabetes. In this case, the method of invigorating the spleen and eliminating turbidity was effective, which effectively prevented the progression of liver disease in the patient, and T2DM was alleviated by maintaining within the standard range after the use of insulin was stopped. It can be said that“killing two birds with one stone”,more fully reflects the advantages of traditional Chinese medicine in the integrated treatment of metabolic-related diseases. 展开更多

Objective: To observe the acting pattern on the immune system by Kidney tonifying (KT) drugs. Methods: Three composite recipes were used on the 7- and 14-day corticosterone rat model to study the effect of recipes on the different patterns of immuno-modulatory and neuro- endocrinological systems. Results:The immune system of Spleen Invigorating(SI) group was well protected in either 7- or 14-day experiments, with the SI recipe showing no effect on the neuroendocrine system. It suggested that SI recipe might have direct action on immune system. On the other hand, KT group with no effect on neuroendocrine-immune (NEI) system in 7-day experiment, but showed a remarkable protective effect of the whole NEI system in 14-day experiment. Conclusion: The results indicated that KT recipe acts on the neuroendocrine system first, and then influence the immune system. It means that the action took place through down pathway of NEI network. 展开更多

Objective To investigate the mechanism of lipid metabolism disorders in Kupffer cells (KCs) of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) rats mediated by LXRα-SREBP-lc pathway and the interference of soothing liver and invigorating spleen recipe (SLISR) on it. Methods SD male rats were randomly divided into five groups: normal, model, soothing liver recipe (SLR), invigorating spleen recipe (ISR), and soothing liver and invigorating spleen recipe (SLISR) groups. The rats in treatment groups were administered for 8 weeks. The liver tissue was stained with H&E and oil red O. The levels of hepatic lipid and blood lipid were measured by biochemical analyzer. KCs were isolated from the livers of rats to evaluate the expression of LXRα, SREBP-1 C, and FAS mRNA by real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR tests; LXRα, SREBP-1C, and FAS proteins were measured by Western blotting. Results The H&E and oil red O staining results showed that the model rats successfully reproduced typical pathogenetic and histopathological features of NAFLD. The levels of hepatic lipid and blood lipid in the model rats were dramatically increased. Compared with the model group, the values of hepatic lipid and blood lipid in the treatment groups were significantly ameliorated (P〈 0.05, 0.01 ). The yields of purified KCs from each rat were 2×10^7-3×10^7. The viability of KCs was higher than 95%, with the purity over 90.18%. Compared with the model group, the expression of LXRα, SREBP-1C, and FAS mRNA and proteins was decreased in all treatment groups, especially in the SLR group (P〈 0.05). Conclusion SLISR may protect liver against injury included by lipid metabolism disorders in KCs through LXRα/ SREBP-1 c signaling pathway, which may be an important mechanism for the prevention and treatment of NAFLD. 展开更多

Objective:The objective of this study was to systematically evaluate the clinical efficacy of the integration method of heat-clearing, dampness-excreting,spleen-strengthening, and stasis-removing from traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) combined with Western medicine for the treatment of ulcerative colitis(UC).Materials and Methods:The databases China National Knowledge Infrastructure,China Biology Medicinedisc(CBMdisc),WANFANG, VIP, and PubMed were searched for randomized controlled trials investigating the integration of the TCM methods of clearing heat, draining dampness, invigorating the spleen, and removing stasis, combined with Western medicine to treat UC from January 2009 to March 2019. Two reviewers independently conducted literature searches, screenings, data extractions, and literature bias evaluations. A meta-analysis was conducted using RevMan 5.3 and Stata 13.0 software. Results:In total, 15 studies involving 1289 patients were included. The results of the meta-analysis showed that the total effective rate of treatment in the experimental groups was higher than that of the control groups (relative risk [RR]=1.27, 95%confidence interval [CI]:1.21, 1.35, Z=8.74, P <0.00001). In the subgroup analysis, the total effective rate of oral TCM combined with Western medicine was higher than that of the control groups (RR=1.24, 95%CI:1.15, 1.33, Z=5.88, P <0.00001). The total effective rate of oral TCM with enemas combined with Western medicine was higher than that of the control group (RR=1.30, 95%CI:1.12, 1.50, Z=3.52, P=0.0004).The comparison between Western medicine alone and oral TCM combined with enteroscopy and Western medicine showed that the effective rate of enteroscopy (RR=1.18, 95%CI:1.05, 1.33, Z=2.86, P=0.004) and the symptom scores before and after treatment all improved more in the combined treatment groups than in those of the Western medicine group alone, with statistically significant differences (RR=-4.23, 95%CI:-4.93,-3.53, Z=11.84, P <0.00001). Conclusion:The integration of the TCM methods of heat clearing, dampness excreting, spleen strengthening, and stasis removing combined with Western medicine can significantly improve the cure rate of UC, and is an effective method to treat UC. 展开更多

Objective: To investigate the effect of Chinese drugs (CD) that invigorate Spleen to remove Dampness and activate the blood circulation to eliminate Turbid for retarding progression of chronic renal failure (CRF).Methods: Thirty-nine patients with CRF were divided into two groups at random: the 18 patients in group A (the control group) were treated with low protein diet and controlling blood pressure and 21 patients in group B (the treatment group) were treated similarly with that of the control group and additional CD. Levels of serous creatinine (SCr), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), blood albumin (Alb), total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and hemoglobin (Hb) were checked every two months and the rate of progression of CRF was estimated by slope of the creatinine reciprocal (1/SCr) with time (months). Results: Levels of SCr and BUn in group B were lower and HDL higher than those in group A significantly,P < 0.05. Mean slopes of the creatinine reciprocal with time in the two groups were markedly different,P < 0.01.Conclusion: Additional CD treatment based upon the low protein diet and controlling blood pressure could retard the rate of progression of CRF evidently. 展开更多
