Capitalism, Internationalism, and Socialism in Times of Globalization

This paper will mention Marxist propositions, presented since the mid-19th century, about capitalism, socialism, and internationalism. According to Marx, socialism would replace capitalism and internationalism would occur through the dissolution of nation states. Later, Marxist circles presented a historical arrow in the form of 〉 capitalism 〉 socialism 〉 internationalism. Taking into account recent steps of globalization and measures imposed by national governments in the face of the deep financial crisis of 2008, it is interesting to compare the above theory with some historical events that have happened since the 19th century. Much has happened that Marx did not predict. Considering the world trajectory since the Second World War, it seems that the historical arrow has the form of 〉 capitalism 〉 internationalism 〉 hybridism of capitalism and socialism 〉？

Importance of Standards Underlined in State Council's National Nutrition Plan

The General Office of the State Council released National Nutrition Plan （2017-2030） （Plan for short） to improve national health and nutrition on July 13. The plan sets a goal to make substantial improvements by 2030 in reducing student obesity, ane- mia, and stunted development afflicting children younger than 5, as well as raising residents＇ nutritional awareness.

The Use of Sectarian Ties Inside Syrian Modern Political System

This article explores the concept of sects as social formations and the process of secularization sects has been undergone in the modern era, implying their exposition to political manipulation by various internal and external actors. We analyse this subject in the context of the modern Syrian State and, in particular, with reference to the political system established by President Hafez al-Asad in the 70’s. The use of sectarian ties appears as part of the regime patrimonial features, being a political strategy used in order to bind particular society’s groups to the regime. In this sense, sectarianism has nothing to do with religion and it requires to be analysed as a socio-political phenomenon. This kind of analysis permits also to confute the identification between the Asad regime and the Alawite community and to understand the complexity of the relation between the President and the community he originated from.

The Doctrine of Human Personality--Political Doctrine of the Future

The Doctrine of Human Personality wants to be the main political doctrine of mankind, which wishes to begin a new era of political, economical and social relations worldwide. A New World Order is ultimately necessary because the age of National States has passed long ago and all relations among the citizens of Earth are influenced and dominated by Globalization, thus it needs a single world Government and a global Parliament. For too long darkness kept a tight grip on mankind, now it is the time to put an end to this darkness and let humanity begin its true evolution through this new doctrine, the Doctrine of Human Personality.

Do Chinese and American contributions in top journals have an equal citation potential?

Purpose： We want to contribute to the evaluation of Chinese research, focusing on contributions in top journals. Design/methodology/approach： Using a Mann-Whitney test we investigate if contributions in Nature, Science or the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America （PNAS） by Chinese or American authors only, i.e. articles for which all authors have a Chinese or an American address, have a different citation potential. Findings： There is no reason to state that Chinese and American contributions in these top journals have a different citation potential. Research limitations： Because of the small numbers involved we were not able to make a distinction between publications in Nature, Science or the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America. Practical implications： These results suggest that the better Chinese research results are of a similar level as those by American colleagues. Originality/value： It is well-known that the number of citations per publication by Chinese authors is still lagging with respect to leading scientific nations and in particular compared with the USA. We have shown that this difference does not necessarily hold in contributions in Nature, Science or the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America.

信仰为界——19世纪妈祖崇拜与马来半岛南洋华人群体认同变迁

Lasting until this day,Matsu culture has occupied its unique position in the long river of history with its endless vitality.The lengthy historical development of Matsu culture is accompanied by the immigration waves of Chinese,and their awakening of awareness for modern country and ethnicity;and the 19th century is the period for Matsu believers in Nanyang to transit from a group with shared business,dialect,and geological position to an ethnicity group with shared culture identity.This article explores the dynamic transition of the boundary of Matsu believers in Nanyang Chinese society by analyzing a variety of materials,including memoirs written by missionaries of London Missionary Society who went to Nanyang for preaching in the early 19th century as well as periodicals they founded there,remains of inscriptions written in Chinese dating back from middle to late 19th century,and Nanyang newspapers and publications written in Chinese at the end of 19th century.It finds that during that process,the transition of Matsu worship is closely linked to the transition of Nanyang Chinese society and corresponds to the gradual formation of awareness of country and ethnicity among Nanyang Chinese.

Possibilities for Healthcare Computing

Advances in computing technology promise to aid in achieving the goals of healthcare. We review how such changes can support each of the goals of healthcare as identified by the U.S. Institute of Medicine： safety, effectiveness, patient-centricity, timeliness, efficiency, and equitability. We also describe current foci of computing technology research aimed at realizing the ambitious goals for health information technology that have been set by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and the Health Reform Act of 2010. Finally, we mention efforts to build health information technologies to support improved healthcare delivery in developing countries.

Political Identity: A Perspective from Cultural Identity

Identity is the ＂sameness＂ and belonging of identification. In a real sense, cultural identity is often related to ethno-cultural identity, while political identity and national identity are more often inseparable. Cultural identity lays particular stress on the group destiny of a people or ethnic group from which its members cannot withdraw. Political identity, on the other hand, highlights the subjective values and intentions chosen, judged and assessed by the members of society. Since modem times, politics, as the surface of the social structure, has demonstrated increasingly serious conflict and perplexity, and the decline of the political identity has gradually developed into a common social phenomenon. Considering the high complementarity and the mutual stimulation between cultural identity and political identity, we should take cultural identity as the pivot for our entry into the actual practice of community politics, with a view to promoting institutional innovations, making interest adjustments, and intensifying the community members＇ sense of belonging. These are exceptionally meaningful for strengthening the political identity of a community.

Adopting cloud computing to optimize spatial web portals for better performance to support Digital Earth and other global geospatial initiatives

A spatial web portal(SWP)provides a web-based gateway to discover,access,manage,and integrate worldwide geospatial resources through the Internet and has the access characteristics of regional to global interest and spiking.Although various technologies have been adopted to improve SWP performance,enabling high-speed resource access for global users to better support Digital Earth remains challenging because of the computing and communication intensities in the SWP operation and the dynamic distribution of end users.This paper proposes a cloud-enabled framework for high-speed SWP access by leveraging elastic resource pooling,dynamic workload balancing,and global deployment.Experimental results demonstrate that the new SWP framework outperforms the traditional computing infrastructure and better supports users of a global system such as Digital Earth.Reported methodologies and framework can be adopted to support operational geospatial systems,such as monitoring national geographic state and spanning across regional and global geographic extent.
