The phenomenon of vortex-induced vibrations of the cylinder near the rigid plane boundary is reproduced in the flume. The vortex shedding frequency and mode are also measured by the methods of hot film velocimeter and hydrogen bubbles. A parametric study is carded out to investigate the influences of reduced velocity, gap-to-diameter ratio, stability parameter and mass ratio on the amplitude and frequency responses of the cylinder. Experimental results indicate: (1) the Strouhal number (St) is around 0.2 for the stationary cylinder near a plane boundary in the sub-criti- cal flow regime; (2) with increasing gap-to-diameter ratio (eo/D), the amplitude ratio (A/D) gets larger but frequency ratio (f/fn) has a slight variation for the case of larger values of eo/D(eo/D 〉 0.66 in this study); (3) there is a clear difference of amplitude and frequency responses of the cylin- derbetween the larger gap-to-diameter ratios (e0/D 〉 0.66) and the smaller ones (e0/D 〈 0.3); (4) the vibration of the cylinder is easier to occur and the range of vibration in terms of Vr number becomes more extensive with decrease of the stability parameter, but the frequency response is affected slightly by the stability parameter; (5) with decreasing mass ratio, the width of the lock-in ranges in terms of Vr and the frequency ratio (f/fn) become larger.展开更多

The typical phenomenon of the two-degree-of-freedom cylinder's VIV is discussed. The influences of initial gap between the cylinder and the wall on the dynamic responses of the cylinder are analyzed. The comparison is made about dynamic responses of the cylinder with one and two degrees of freedom. Experimental results show that the vibration of the cylinder near a deformable wall with a small value of initial gap-to-diameter ratios can generally be divided into two phases. The initial gap-to-diameter ratios have a noticeable influence on the occurrence of transverse vibration. The transverse maximum amplitude of the cylinder with two degrees of freedom is larger than that of the cylinder with one degree of freedom under the condition with the same values of other parameters. However, the vibration frequency of the cylinder for the two degrees of freedom case is smaller than that for the one degree of freedom case at the same value of Vr number展开更多

The PPFC of which the upper and lower plates are rectangular is usually used by research workers, and the flow field in this kind of PPFC (except for the regions near the entrance and exit) is uniform([1]), so only the effect the shear stress with one value has on cultured cells can be observed during each experiment. A kind of PPFC of which the upper and lower plates are not rectangular is proposed in this paper. The distributions of the velocities inside and the shear stresses at the bottom of the chamber are given by analyzing the flow field of the steady flow in the PPFC. The results show that the mechanical behaviors of cultured cells undergoing the shear stresses with various values may be simultaneously observed by the use of this kind of irrectangular PPFC. The theoretical and experimental results obtained by Ultrasonic Doppler Technique show good agreement.展开更多

A method is presented to control the flow widths of two steady flows in the Y-type microchannel from two inlets. The transfer function for the Y-type microchannel is given by solving the governing equation for the Taylor-Aris dispersion in the microchannel. The amplitude-frequency and phase-frequency relations are provided which show that a shallow Y-type microchannel acts as a low-pass filter. The transports of different dynamic biochemical signals are investigated. In comparison with a fully mixing microfluidic channel, the magnitudes of the dynamic signals at the outlets in a Y-type microchannel are much smaller than those in a fully mixing microchannel, which demonstrates that the amplitude attenuation in a Y-type microchannel is larger than that of a fully mixing microchannel due to the transverse molecular diffusion. In order to control the desired signal in a microchannel, the solution of the inverse problem for the channel is also presented.展开更多

In this paper, steady flow in a stenotic vessel is simulated and compared to available numerical data with COMSOL Multiphysics software. Numerical results for a 2D axisymmetric vessel of 45% area reduction indicate that as the area is reduced with the decreasing of cross-section, the maximum axial velocity at post stenotic decreases until the end of the artery but the radial velocity increases upto 4 mm from the stenosis throat and then decreases. Overall, comparison is carried out on hemodynamics for elastic and rigid wall of steady flow. Our investigated findings may enable risk factor for patients with attacked cardiovascular diseases and can play an important role to detect a solution to such kinds of diseases.展开更多

Since the aciculate particles in a micropolar fluid can rotate without translation, micropolarity affects the fluid speed, fluid flux, and one of the two non-zero components of the stress tensor. The axial speed in a micropolar fluid intensifies when the radius increases. The reaction rate function φ(T ) is assumed to have a positive lower bound. We first consider the Cauchy problem (the initial value problem), that is, seek a supersonic downstream reacting flow when the incoming flow is supersonic, and establish the global existence of entropy solutions when the total variation of the initial data is sufficiently small. Then we analyze the problem of steady supersonic, exothermically reacting Euler flow past a Lipschitz wedge, generating an ad-ditional detonation wave attached to the wedge vertex, which can be then formulated as an initial-boundary value problem. We establish the global existence of entropy solutions containing the additional detonation wave (weak or strong, determined by the wedge angle at the wedge vertex) when the total variation of both the slope of the wedge boundary and the incoming flow is suitably small. The downstream asymptotic behavior of the global solutions is also obtained.展开更多

Results of numerical simulation are presented for flow around a three-stranded rope in uniform flow. The simulation was carried out to study the hydrodynamic characteristics of pressure and velocity fields of steady incompressible laminar and turbulent wakes behind a three-stranded rope. A three-cylinder configuration and single circular cylinder configuration are used to model the three-stranded rope in the two-dimensional simulation. The governing equations, Navier-Stokes equations, are solved by using two-dimensional finite volume method. The turbulence flow is simulated using Standard κ-ε model and Shear-Stress Transport κ-ω(SST) model. The drag of the three-cylinder model and single cylinder model is calculated for different Reynolds numbers by using control volume analysis method. The pressure coefficient is also calculated for the turbulent model and laminar model based on the control surface method. From the comparison of the drag coefficient and the pressure of the single cylinder and three-cylinder models, it is found that the drag coefficients of the three-cylinder model are generally 1.3–1.5 times those of the single circular cylinder for different Reynolds numbers. Comparing the numerical results with water tank test data, the results of the three-cylinder model are closer to the experiment results than the single cylinder model results.展开更多

文摘In this article, we study irrotational subsonic and subsonic-sonic flows with gen- eral conservative forces in the infinity long nozzle. For the subsonic case, the varified Bernoulli law leads a modified cut-off system. Because of the local average estimate, conservative forces do not need any decay condition. Afterwards, the subsonic-sonic limit solutions are constructed by taking the extract subsonic solutions as the approximate sequences.

文摘We are concerned with the global existence of entropy solutions of the two-dimensional steady Euler equations for an ideal gas, which undergoes a one-step exothermic chemical reaction under the Arrhenius-type kinetics. The downstream asymptotic behavior of the global solutions is also obtained.

文摘Three-stranded rope is widely used in fishing gear and mooring system. Comparing the numerical results with water tank test data, the results of the three-cylinder model are closer to the experiment results than the single cylinder model results.
文摘The number and distribution of the singular points of streamlines in the cross-section of steady flow through a curved tube ate discussed by using the method of topological structure analysis. And a theoretical criterion is obtained for the bifurcation of flow vortexes for the secondary flow turning from two-vortex structure into four-vortex structure. Furthermore, the critical Dean number for bifurcation and the semi-analytical expressions of stream function and axial velocity are given by using Galerkin technique. The result of calculation is consistent with the theoretical criterion.
