An Investigation into the Case of Multi-interpretation in Poetry Translation

In translating poems, it is very common that different people have quite different versions of the same poem. This paper therefore intends to expound upon the underlying factors from the perspective of Hermeneutics,by exploring the relationship between the textual meaning and the textual significance of a poem, as well as the relationship between the author's intention and the textual intention of a poem, aiming to explain the key element in translating poems—multi-interpretation.

The Connotations and English Translations of Dao (道) in Chinese Classics

Translating, in light of philosophical hermeneutics, is a process of understanding and interpreting, of which understanding is the premise. Dao (道) is a core concept in traditional Chinese ideology with plentiful cultural connotations. While, it has been put into a variety of dictions. Only the thorough understanding of the language and culture in the source text leads to the appropriate production in translation.

George Steiner's Hermeneutic Motion

The thesis gives a comprehensive review of the development of hermeneutics, exploring George Steiner 's creative understanding of Hermeneutic Motion which involves four stages, namely trust, aggression, incorporation and restitution, thus emphasizing translators 'sub-jectivity throughout the whole process of translation.

A Study of Idiom Translation in Bonsall’s The Red Chamber Dream

This paper combines quantitative and qualitative methods to analyze the translation characteristics of idioms in B.S.Bonsall’s full English translation of The Red Chamber Dream,starting from George Steiner’s fourfold hermeneutic motion:trust,aggression,incorporation,and restitution.Through data statistics and conclusion analysis,I concluded that the translation strategies of idioms in Bonsall’s English translation are mainly literal translations,supplemented by free translations,and literal translations combined with free translations,which also provides some enlightenment for the English translation of Chinese classics.

A Hermeneutic Study on Translating Confucianism in The Chinese Recorder

The Chinese Recorder(1867-1941)published roughly 95 articles which are directly related to the interpretation and translation of Confucianism in its seventy-fouryear publication.With the guidance of Hans-Georg Gadamer’s Hermeneutics,a comparative and descriptive study on articles published by Ernest Faber and A.B.Hutchinson respectively is conducted for interpreting and translating Confucianism and Confucian classics in The Chinese Recorder.Faber’s and Hutchinson’s prejudice on religion belief have absolutely affected their interpretation and translation of Confucianism.With the process of fusion of horizons,translators’prejudice exerted bi-dimensional and comprehensive influences on their translation strategies in specific historic context.Faber’s deep affection for preaching and his erudite know ledge of Confucianism promoted his strategy of literal and faithful translation in The Canon of Filial Piety.But Hutchison preferred to apply a sense to sense translation and caused some inaccuracies because of his insufficient understanding on Confucianism in translating The Family Sayings of Confucius.

Research on English Translation of Chinese Literary Terms from the Perspective of International Communication: Interpretation and Standardization

Literary terms are the crystallization of Chinese ideology and wisdom. Translation and communication function as an important link in the construction of the discourse system with Chinese characteristics. Standardized translation of literary terms is an important way to help the world understand China and promote international communication of Chinese culture, which is conducive to the inheritance and interpretation of fine traditional Chinese culture. From the perspective of the "going global" strategy of Chinese culture in the new era, and the existing asymmetry of English translation of Chinese literary terms in international cultural communication, we analyzed the divergence, variation and imposed interpretation of the translations of Chinese literary terms and put forward some suggestions for their standardization. We believe that the translation of Chinese literary terms should adhere to the principle of "localization" in cultural communication and focus on the transmission of Chinese cultural connotation to correct the imposed interpretations of Chinese literature in the West. Standardizing the translations of literary terms will facilitate the communication of "Chinese knowledge" to the world. The paper is expected to provide reference for research on construction and enhancement of discourse system for global communication with Chinese characteristics.

阐释学视域下民俗文化词英译策略研究——以《西和乞巧歌》英译本为例

二十一世纪初,以彭建明、蒋贤萍等为代表的学者将赵逵夫先生主编的《西和乞巧歌》翻译成英文,这对于向英语世界传播中国民间歌谣及民间民俗文化有重要的意义和价值。文章以乔治·斯坦纳阐释学翻译理论四步骤为指引,分析了原作中祭祀礼俗类以及婚姻礼俗类民俗文化词的内涵意义,并结合译本中翻译的实例及乞巧歌、英语歌谣的特点展开研究。研究发现,译者对于此类民俗文化词的翻译,基于归化、异化以及中西文化缺省补偿原则的翻译策略,采用了意译、直译或音译加注释的翻译方法,准确、有效地传递了具有地方特色的乞巧文化。

阐释学对译者主体性的解读沿革

译者作为翻译的主体,在翻译过程中扮演着十分重要的角色,但在翻译理论的发展过程中,译者这一主体却总是被忽略。在阐释学理论的视角下,译者的主体性得以彰显。基于此,以阐释学主要代表人物施莱尔马赫、伽达默尔和斯坦纳的主要思想为理论发展脉络,分析阐释学框架下对于译者主体性的解读。研究发现:施莱尔马赫首先看到译者的主体作用,伽达默尔和斯坦纳则分别从宏观与微观层面描绘了译者的能动性。

该文以阐释学为理论基础,解析辜鸿铭《论语·学而篇》中“学”的英文翻译,在广义“学”的基础之上,运用阐释学原理,分析该篇章中有关“学”的翻译方法,诠释内里所蕴含的“君子之学”。《论语·学而篇》是《论语》的首篇,内容涉猎诸多,多以语录体的形式呈现儒家思想,其中蕴含的哲理更是中华传统文化中璀璨的瑰宝,经久不衰。该文在对辜鸿铭所译《论语·学而篇》中“学”的英文翻译进行阐释学原理分析后,发现在辜鸿铭的英译中不同情景的“学”采取了不同的翻译方法,对其内涵运用阐释学进行分析后,发现辜鸿铭在翻译时较为注重精神内涵的传达,并以此向英文读者诠释《论语》中立德修身、内圣外王及“君子之学”的传统儒家哲学观。

国内阐释学翻译领域发展历程及现状——基于CiteSpace文献可视化软件的分析

基于文献可视化软件CiteSpace绘制图谱,对阐释学在我国翻译领域发展历程、研究现状进行分析。阐释学于上世纪引入我国,为国内翻译领域研究提供了崭新的视角。其发展大致经历三个阶段,分别为萌芽阶段、稳步发展阶段、回落阶段。由于历史进程推动及学科发展需要,国内阐释学翻译领域研究进入萌芽阶段。随着研究深入,阐释学自身具备的优越性以及其具有丰富中国传统翻译理论的特性,使得阐释学翻译研究在我国广泛开展,进入稳步发展阶段。但由于国内翻译研究理念转变及各种信息化研究手段的出现,阐释学翻译研究的热情随之下降,陷入回落阶段。

哲学诠释学视域下的法国汉学家腊味爱《内经素问》法译研究

中医诊疗技术早在17世纪就已传入欧洲,但直到20世纪,欧洲医学界才开始关注中医理论和文化,掀起翻译《黄帝内经》的热潮。深入研究《黄帝内经》的不同译本对提高中医古籍的翻译水平及探讨中医知识的国际化传播具有重要意义。以法国汉学家腊味爱的法语节译本《内经素问》(Nei Tching Sou Wen,1990年版)为研究对象,从哲学诠释学角度,以乔治·斯坦纳的翻译“四步骤”理论为分析框架研究可知,《内经素问》法译本包括全盘接受与“信任”传统中医、西方现代科学知识“侵入”中国传统文化、以应用为目的“吸收”原则,以及还原医古文以补偿语境缺失等翻译特点,对中医典籍的翻译与海外传播提供了重要借鉴。

A Comparison of Three Chinese Versions of Hamlet's Excerpt Under the Perspective of Hermeneutic Motion Theory

The Hermeneutic approach to translation has been widely concerned since it was first introduced by George Steiner in1975. Under the guidance of hermeneutics theory, this thesis takes three Chinese versions of Hamlet's excerpts as the research ob-jects, trying to analyze the translation from Steiner's four specific Hermeneutic Motions of"trust","aggression","incorporation"and"restitution". Therefrom, we can obtain a clear understanding of how the subjectivity of the translator affects the whole processof translation activities.
