The sensors responded to the deformation of the PET membranes with the conductance changes of the nanocluster films and were characterized by both high gauge factor and wide detection range. The response characteristics of the strain sensors were found to depend strongly on the nanocluster coverage, which was attributed to the percolative nature of the electron transport in the closely spaced nanocluster arrays. By controlling the nanocluster deposition process, a strain sensor composed of nanocluster arrays with a coverage close to the effective percolation threshold was fabricated. The sensor device showed a linear response with a stable gauge factor of 55 for the applied strains from the lower detection limit up to 0.3%. At higher applied strains, a gauge factor as high as 200 was shown. The nanocluster films also demonstrated the ability to response to large deformations up to 8% applied strain, with an extremely high gauge factor of 3500.展开更多

文摘Human motion analysis consists of real-time monitoring and recording of human body’s kinematics. It is very essential to track ambulatory and dailylife human motion, which is crucial for many applications and disciplines.Electronic textiles(e-textiles) afford a valid alternative to traditional solidstate sensors due to their merits of low cost, lightweight, flexibility, and feasibility to fit various human bodies. In this mini-review, textile-based sensor platforms and human motion analysis are well discussed in Section 1.Second, theoretical principles of textile-based strain sensors are introduced including resistive, capacitive, and piezoelectrical sensors. Section 3 focuses on various types of textile materials that are functionalized as sensing systems by intrinsic or extrinsic modifications. Section 4 summaries various types of e-textile-based strain sensors for human motion analysis. The final two sections mainly present perspectives and challenges, and conclusions, respectively.

文摘A novel fiber strain sensor is proposed, based on the two-mode interference of a suspended-core fiber. A fullvectorial finite difference mode solver is employed as the numerical tool for characterizing the proposed strain sensor. The numerical results show that the proposed strain sensor has an estimated sensitivity of 0.05 rad/(m-με), higher than that of the strain sensors using conventional multimode fibers, while the temperature sensitivity of the proposed sensor is relatively low.

文摘Pipelines are one of the most important modern energy transportation methods, used especially for the transportation of certain dangerous energy media materials such as crude oil, natural gas,and chemical raw materials.New requirements have been put forward for the health monitoring and early security warning of pipelines because of the large-scale and complicated development trend of the pipe network system. To achieve an accurate assessment of the health conditions of pipeline infrastructure, obtaining as many precise operating parameters as possible, particularly at some critical parts of the pipeline,is necessary. Therefore,a novel type of fiber grating strain sensor array is proposed herein to monitor the pipeline hoop strain. The sensor utilizes fiber grating characteristics such as light weight, corrosion resistance, remote transmission, and strong environmental adaptability. The fiber containing the grating measurement points is implanted into the composite material to complete the sensitization encapsulation and protection of the bare fiber grating. The design of the sensor array fulfills the requirements for monitoring pipeline mass data, making it easy to form a pipeline health monitoring sensor network. The sensor sensitivity is researched by using a combination of theoretical and experimental analysis.A sensitivity test,as well as linearity and stability tests, are performed on the sensor. The experimental results show that the average sensitivity of the sensor is 14.86 pm/με,and the error from the theoretical calculation analysis value is 8.75%.Due to its high reliability, good linear response and long-term stability, and the ability to reflect the exact strain change of the outer wall of the pipeline, the designed sensor can support longterm online pipeline monitoring. The fiber grating sensor array network has successfully realized the monitoring of the pipeline’s internal operation by using external strain changes. In addition to the performance benefits, there are other merits associated with the applicability of the sensor namely simple structure, compact size, manufacturing ease, and exterior installation ease.

文摘Flexible strain sensor devices were fabricated by depositing Pd nanoclusters on PET membranes patterned with interdigital electrodes. The nanocluster films also demonstrated the ability to response to large deformations up to 8% applied strain, with an extremely high gauge factor of 3500.

文摘Conductive polymer composites(CPCs)are widely used in the flexible strain sensors due to their simple fabrication process and controllable sensing properties. However, temperature has a significance impact on the strain sensing performance of CPCs.In this paper, the strain sensing characteristics of MWCNTs/PDMS composites under temperature loading were systematically studied. It was found that the sensitivity decreased with the increase of temperature and the phenomenon of shoulder peak also decreased.Based on the theory of polymer mechanics,it was found that temperature could affect the conductive network by changing the motion degree of PDMS molecular chain, resulting in the change of sensing characteristics. Finally,a mathematical model of the resistance against loading condition(strain and temperature),associated with the force−electrical equivalent relationship of composites, was established to discuss the experimental results as well as the sensing mechanism. The results presented in this paper was believed helpful for the further application of strain sensors in different temperature conditions.

文摘<div style="text-align:justify;"> An in-fiber axial micro-strain sensor based on a Few Mode Fiber Bragg Grating (FM-FBG) is proposed and experimentally characterized. This FM-FBG is in inscribed in a multi-layer few-mode fiber (ML-FMF), and could acquire the change of the axial strain along fibers, which depends on the transmission dips. On account of the distinct dual-mode property, a good stability of this sensor is realized. The two transmission dips could have the different sensing behaviors. Both the propagation characteristics and operation principle of such a sensor are demonstrated in detail. High sensitivity of the FM-FBG, ~4 pm/με and ~4.5 pm/με within the range of 0 με - 1456 με, is experimentally achieved. FM-FBGs could be easily scattered along one fiber. So this sensor may have a great potential of being used in sensor networks. </div>
文摘Strain sensors for human-motion detection must offer high stretchability, high sensitivity, fast response, and high recovery speed. In this study, we choose silver paste as a sensing material and use a screen printing method to fabricate the strain sensor based upon an electrical-resistance mechanism. After curing elastomeric polyurethane film with a thickness of 150 μm on PET film, the polyester resin mixed with blocked isocyanate curing agent was coated as a masking layer to reduce the film’s stickiness. The effect of the polyester masking layer upon the silver paste screen printing process was examined using a rolling-ball-tack test, TGA analysis of polyester resins, and cured silver-electrode films. The cost-effective strain sensor fabricated by using silver paste and screen printing processes on the stretchable-polyurethane-substrate film showed high sensitivity and fast response in a strain range of up to 100%.
