Recycling of Local Qatar’s Steel Slag and Gravel Deposits in Road Construction

Every year,the State of Qatar generates about 400,000 tons of steel slag and another 500,000 tons of gravel as a result of steel manufacturing and washing sand,respectively.The two materials(by-products)are not fully utilized to their best market values.At the same time,infrastructural renewal will take place in Qatar over the next ten years,and there will be a greater demand for aggregates and other construction materials as the country suffers from the availability of good aggregates.This paper presents results obtained on the use of steel slag,gravel and gabbro(control)in HMAC(hot mix asphalt concrete)paving mixtures and road bases and sub-bases.Tests were conducted in accordance with QCS-2010(Qatar Construction Specifications)and results were compared with QCS requirements for aggregates used in these applications.Based on the data obtained in this work,steel slag and gravel aggregates have a promising potential to be used in HMAC paving mixtures on Qatar’s roads,whether in asphalt base and asphalt wearing courses or as unbound aggregates in the base and sub-base pavement structure. 展开更多

目的:通过观察中重度干眼患者使用0.05%环孢素(CsA)滴眼液(Ⅱ)治疗前后角膜上皮下神经(SBN)数量及形态的改变,探讨国产CsA对干眼的治疗效果和对SBN的影响。方法:前瞻性研究。选取2020-12/2022-01来南昌大学附属眼科医院就诊的中重度干... 目的:通过观察中重度干眼患者使用0.05%环孢素(CsA)滴眼液(Ⅱ)治疗前后角膜上皮下神经(SBN)数量及形态的改变,探讨国产CsA对干眼的治疗效果和对SBN的影响。方法:前瞻性研究。选取2020-12/2022-01来南昌大学附属眼科医院就诊的中重度干眼患者20例20眼,接受国产CsA治疗,完成3mo随访。分别于治疗前,治疗后3mo进行临床评估。观察临床症状、体征、SBN形态数量的变化。结果:治疗3mo后,眼表疾病指数(OSDI)量表评分、TBUT、SchirmerⅠ、CFS均得到显著改善。共聚焦显微镜数据分析显示,治疗3mo后,SBN密度由13.49±5.43mm/mm^(2)增加至14.93±5.34mm/mm^(2)(P<0.001),神经弯曲度评分由2.86±0.92分减少至2.31±0.75分(P<0.001),串珠结构数量由1.45±0.67个/100微米减至1.07±0.45个/100微米(P<0.001),树突细胞(DC)数量由5.83±3.28个/帧减少至3.67±2.24个/帧(P<0.001)。DC数量与分支神经数量、神经弯曲度评分、神经串珠结构数量呈正相关(r s=0.27,P=0.045;r s=0.407,P<0.01;r s=0.486,P<0.01)。结论:神经损伤与干眼引起的角膜炎症相关,而0.05%CsA滴眼液(Ⅱ)能有效抑制炎症,改善SBN形态和数量;通过共焦显微镜观察角膜SBN可以作为干眼治疗疗效评估的有效方法。 展开更多

目的:应用活体共聚焦显微镜(in vivo confocal microscopy,IVCM)观察视网膜激光光凝术对角膜上皮下神经的影响。方法:收集行视网膜激光光凝术的患者36例46眼,分为糖尿病性视网膜病变(diabetic retinopathy,DR)组(14例22眼)与非DR组(22... 目的:应用活体共聚焦显微镜(in vivo confocal microscopy,IVCM)观察视网膜激光光凝术对角膜上皮下神经的影响。方法:收集行视网膜激光光凝术的患者36例46眼,分为糖尿病性视网膜病变(diabetic retinopathy,DR)组(14例22眼)与非DR组(22例24眼),在治疗前及治疗后1周、1个月应用IVCM采集两组角膜基底层下神经纤维图像,使用Image J和Neuron J软件计算其长度及密度。结果:DR组术前角膜神经纤维主干密度(corneal nerve fiber density,CNFD)、角膜神经纤维分支密度(corneal nerve branch density,CNBD)和角膜神经纤维长度(corneal nerve fiber length,CN F L)均低于非DR组,角膜神经弯曲度(corneal nerve fiber tortuosity,CNFT)高于非DR组。两组间角膜神经总分支节点密度(corneal total branch node,CTBN)无显著差异。DR组光凝术后CNFD,CNFL测量值持续降低,术前、术后1周、术后1个月3个观察时段两两之间的差异有统计学意义;光凝术后1个月CNFT与术前的差异有统计学意义。非DR组光凝术后CNFD,CNFL持续降低,术前、术后1周、术后1个月3个观察时段两两之间的差异有统计学意义;CNBD持续升高,术后1周、术后1个月测量值与术前的差异有统计学意义;CNFT持续升高,术后1周、术后1个月测量值与术前的差异均有统计学意义。结论:IVCM结合附属软件可量化评估角膜上皮下神经,糖尿病状态和视网膜激光光凝均可对角膜上皮下神经造成损伤。 展开更多

对处于亚热带地区的健康学龄前(5~6岁)儿童156名(男71,女85),进行了细致的基础代谢测定和四个季度的连续观察。实验采用间接开放式测定法,以多氏气袋收集气体,并以Beckman OM-11及LB-2分析仪作呼吸气体分析,结果为(1)该学龄前儿童基础... 对处于亚热带地区的健康学龄前(5~6岁)儿童156名(男71,女85),进行了细致的基础代谢测定和四个季度的连续观察。实验采用间接开放式测定法,以多氏气袋收集气体,并以Beckman OM-11及LB-2分析仪作呼吸气体分析,结果为(1)该学龄前儿童基础代谢率的全年平均值男性为45.5±3.08kcal·m^2·h^1,1.97±0.17kcal·kg^1·h^1或34.1±3.01kcal/h;女性为43.2±2.65kcal·m^2·h^1,1.89±0.17kcal·kg^1·h^1或32.0±2.99kcal/h。两性的基础代谢率均有明显的季节变化。上述数值在最冷与最热的季节相比,男孩相差4%,女孩相差3%;(2)男女儿童的基础代谢已有明显的差异,女性约低男性5%;(3)5~6岁儿童的基础代谢与体重及体表面积均有明显相关,而与脉搏及呼吸次数相关不明显。本文对结果作了对比与讨论。 展开更多

目的通过对比不同分期糖尿病视网膜病变(DR)患者涡状区角膜上皮基底神经丛(sub-basal nerve plexus,SNP)的差别,探讨DR分期与糖尿病角膜神经损伤的相关性。方法采用横断面研究,选取2018年9月至2019年1月就诊于山西省眼科医院的2型糖尿... 目的通过对比不同分期糖尿病视网膜病变(DR)患者涡状区角膜上皮基底神经丛(sub-basal nerve plexus,SNP)的差别,探讨DR分期与糖尿病角膜神经损伤的相关性。方法采用横断面研究,选取2018年9月至2019年1月就诊于山西省眼科医院的2型糖尿病患者66例66眼,年龄50~65岁,均以右眼为受检眼。按照DR分级标准将患者分为无糖尿病视网膜病变(NDR)组、非增生期糖尿病视网膜病变(NPDR)组和增生期糖尿病视网膜病变(PDR)组,并纳入年龄与性别匹配的年龄相关性白内障患者20例20眼作为对照组。所有受检者均接受角膜激光扫描共焦显微镜检查,观察涡状区SNP的形态,并测量神经纤维长度(NFL)。采用以病程为协变量的协方差分析比较各组间NFL值差异;采用Spearman秩相关分析NFL值与DR分期的相关性。结果所有受检眼均可查见涡状区。对照组神经纤维粗细均匀、分布密集,走行规则,且多数受检眼涡状结构完整;各不同分期DR组神经纤维普遍变细、密度下降,走行迂曲,并伴有不同程度的涡状结构缺失。NDR组和NPDR组主要表现为涡状中心缺失;PDR组除涡状中心缺失外,部分受检眼还合并下方及颞侧的结构缺失。对照组、NDR组、NPDR组和PDR组NFL值分别为(21.08±4.74)、(16.47±6.35)、(14.95±3.90)和(11.61±3.24)mm/mm2,总体比较差异具有统计学意义(F=10.541,P<0.001)。对照组NFL值均明显高于各不同DR分期组,差异均有统计学意义(均P<0.01)。Spearman秩相关分析结果显示,NFL值与DR分期呈负相关(rs=-0.356,P=0.003)。结论糖尿病SNP损伤早于DR出现,且随着DR发展过程而逐渐进展;DR各分期均伴有不同程度的神经结构缺失,且缺失首先从涡状中心开始,逐渐向下方和颞侧发展。临床在治疗糖尿病患者眼底病的同时应当兼顾眼表的状况。 展开更多

目的探讨临床甲状腺功能亢进症(hyperthyroidism,HT)、亚临床甲状腺功能亢进症(简称亚甲亢)患者血清神经调节蛋白4(Nrg4)、Tsukushi(TSK)水平与血脂、甲状腺激素、基础代谢率(basal metabolic rate,BMR)的相关性。方法纳入黑龙江省红十... 目的探讨临床甲状腺功能亢进症(hyperthyroidism,HT)、亚临床甲状腺功能亢进症(简称亚甲亢)患者血清神经调节蛋白4(Nrg4)、Tsukushi(TSK)水平与血脂、甲状腺激素、基础代谢率(basal metabolic rate,BMR)的相关性。方法纳入黑龙江省红十字(森工总)医院2018年12月~2020年12月收治的HT患者150例、亚甲亢患者130例分别作为HT组、亚甲亢组,选取同期该院体检的健康志愿者80例作为表观健康组。比较三组血清Nrg4,TSK水平以及血脂指标[总胆固醇(TC)、三酰甘油(TG)、低密度脂蛋白胆固醇(LDL-C)、高密度脂蛋白胆固醇(HDL-C)]、甲状腺激素指标[TSH、甲状旁腺素(PTH)、游离甲状腺素(FT4)、游离三碘甲状腺原氨酸(FT3)、总三碘甲状腺原氨酸(TT3),总甲状腺素(TT4)]和BMR,分析患者血清Nrg4,TSK水平与血脂、甲状腺激素、BMR的相关性,观察血清Nrg4与TSK的相关性。结果HT组血清Nrg4,TSK,PTH,FT4,FT3,TT3,TT4和BMR高于亚甲亢组(t=9.591~29.295,均P<0.05)和表观健康组(t=11.543~26.872,均P<0.05),而血清TSH,TC,TG,LDL-C和HDL-C水平低于亚甲亢组(t=3.776~27.429,均P<0.05)和表观健康组(t=3.531~17.533,均P<0.05),差异均有统计学意义。亚甲亢组血清Nrg4,TSK水平高于表观健康组(t=5.277,7.008,均P<0.05),但HDL-C,TSH水平低于表观健康组(t=10.358,28.220,均P<0.05),差异均有统计学意义。Pearson线性相关分析提示HT患者血清Nrg4,TSK水平与血清TC,LDL-C,HDL-C和TSH水平呈负相关(r=-0.652~-0.371,均P<0.05),与血清PTH,FT4,FT3,TT3,TT4及BMR呈正相关(r=0.349~0.593,均P<0.05);亚甲亢患者血清Nrg4,TSK水平与HDL-C,TSH水平呈负相关(r=-0.615~-0.489,均P<0.05);HT,亚甲亢患者血清Nrg4与TSK水平均呈正相关(r=0.581,0.563,均P<0.05)。结论针对性别、年龄、吸烟史、饮酒史混杂因素进行校准,并将上述因素剔除后发现HT,亚甲亢患者血清Nrg4,TSK水平均增高,且HT患者的Nrg4,TSK与血脂、甲状腺激素和BMR有明显相关性,而亚甲亢患者的Nrg4,TSK仅与HDL-C,TSH有关。 展开更多

Symptoms of dryness discomfort in soft contact lens wearers frequently lead to discontinuation from wear.The negative influence of pre-fitting tear dysfunctions appears likely to be exacerbated by the challenges to tear homeostasis caused by contact lenses.The corneal mechanisms for symptoms in contact lens wearers are different to those for dry eye disease because the cornea is insulated by the lens from ambient conditions as well as from lid wiper friction during blinking.Symptoms of dryness discomfort might be the consequence of increased lid wiper friction during blinking when the lens front surface becomes soiled and dry and exhibits very rapid tear break up.It is possible that some cases of contact lens intolerance and discontinuation could be a function of lid wiper neuropathy.In relation to the possibility of corneal neuropathy,a stagnant post-lens tear pool with the possibility of increased concentrations of metabolic by-products,cellular debris,and bacterial exotoxins,might have the potential to disturb the corneal epithelial and sub-basal nerves.Contributions by contact lens-induced inflammation to any neuropathic changes may partly depend on the degree to which inflammatory mediators are concentrated in a stagnant post-lens tear pool.It does not appear to be known if corneal neuropathic changes could develop under these conditions.The chances of neuropathic involvement may be greater if discomfort develops after a significant period of successful wear and there is a history of comorbid pain conditions.Esthesiometry and in vivo confocal microscopy in discontinued contact lens wearers may support a diagnosis of contact lens-related corneal neuralgia. 展开更多

The waste clay bricks from debris of buildings were evaluated through lab tests as environ- mental friendly materials for pavement sub-base in the research. Five sets of coarse aggregates which contained 0, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% crushed bricks, respectively, were blended with sand and treated by 5 % cement. The test results indicated that cement treated aggregate which contains crushed clay brick aggregate had a lower maximum dry density (MDD) and a higher optimum moisture content (OMC). Moreover, the unconfined compressive strength (UCS), resilience modulus, splitting strength, and frost resistance performance of the specimens decreased with increase of the amount of crushed clay brick aggregate. On the other hand, it can be observed that the use of crushed clay brick in the mixture decreased the dry shrinkage strain of the specimens. Compared with the asphalt pave- ment design specifications of China, the results imply that the substitution rate of natural aggregate with crushed clay brick aggregate in the cement treated aggregate sub-base material should be less than 50% (5 % cement content in the mixture). Furthermore, it needs to be noted that the cement treated aggre- gate which contains crushed clay bricks should be cautiously used in the cold region due to its insuffi- cient frost resistance performance. 展开更多
