A prevailing,controversial hypothesis is that fishing pressure has played a greater role than climatic and environmental drivers,in changing fish species succession and biomass fluctuation in the South China Sea(SCS)....A prevailing,controversial hypothesis is that fishing pressure has played a greater role than climatic and environmental drivers,in changing fish species succession and biomass fluctuation in the South China Sea(SCS).Based on otter trawl survey data from 1959 to 2010 in the outer Beibu Gulf(OBG),northern SCS,large seasonal and interannual variation is reported for fish species composition,the proportional abundances of dominant taxa,and fish biomass.Generalized additive models are developed to quantify relationships between fish biomass and the external factors of fishing pressure and climate change.Fishing pressure proved to be the main driver of sharp declines in demersal fish stocks,with high-value species being replaced by low-value ones over time.Abrupt decreases in fish biomass during the years of 1993 and 1998 correspond to El Nino events,with climate change possibly the main driver of proportional representation of pelagic species in fisheries trawl catch.The need to differentiate impacts of fishing and environmental drivers on fish species with different life history strategies is stressed to better understand fish community dynamics.展开更多

The vertical distribution of the ratio of pigment to total Chl a(TChl a) exhibited three different patterns, including increasing with depth pattern(e.g., But-Fuco), decreasing with depth pattern(e.g., Zea) and increasing at deep chlorophyll maximum(DCM) pattern(e.g., Hex-Fuco). The vertical profiles for Fuco/TChl a and Pras/TChl a was higher in coast than in the shelf and basin, and the Zea and Dv-Chl a expressed conversely. So the samples in the coastal stations must be separated for the cluster analysis group procedure in the SCS. Successive run was introduced into the CHEMTAX calculation and the output results were evaluated by the convergence of pigment/TChl a ratios. Most of the ratios were well converged at the fifth running, except Zea/TChl a for Prochlorococcus and Chl b/TChl a for prasinophytes and so on. To evaluate the fifth running's results, haptophytes_8 and chlorophytes were two phytoplankton groups with much uncertainty. But the fifth estimated value was better than running once was supported by the regression evidence between the measured pigment concentration and calculation values. Synechococcus was another component with much mutability, and the CHEMTAX's result should be compared to the flow cytometry's cell abundance.展开更多
Large acanthomorphic acritarchs have been found in chert of the Ediacaran Doushantuo Formation at several localities in South China, including the East Yangtze Gorges of Hubei Province,Weng'an area of Guizhou Provinc...Large acanthomorphic acritarchs have been found in chert of the Ediacaran Doushantuo Formation at several localities in South China, including the East Yangtze Gorges of Hubei Province,Weng'an area of Guizhou Province, and elsewhere. However, their potential for biostratigraphic subdivision and correlation of Ediacaran successions is limited by facies control, taphonomic biases,and taxonomic problems. In the Yangtze Gorges, the Doushantuo Formation is generally subdivided into four lithologic members. However, in the Weng'an area, the Doushantuo Formation comprises just a lower and upper part separated by a mid-Doushantuo erosional surface. In the Yangtze Gorges at the Zhangcunping section, the Doushantuo succession is similar to that at Weng'an. So far, the correlation between the Yangtze Gorges and Weng'an area, and elsewhere has been an issue of debate. To resolvethe debate, we selected eight sections in the Yangtze Gorges area and systemically sampled chert nodules of the Doushantuo Formation, focusing in particular on the upper Doushantuo Formation. Our data confirm two different assemblages appearing separately in the second and third members, which are separated by a negative δ13C excursion (EN2). The lower assemblage is characterized by Tianzhushania and a diverse suite of large acanthomorphic acritarchs. The upper assemblage is distinguished from the lower assemblage, by (1) absence of Tianzhushania; (2) occurrence of abundant,100-150 μm, smooth-walled spherical microfossils; (3) occurrence of highly diverse acanthomorphic acritarchs including species extending from the second member and new forms in this member; (4)occurrence of unnamed new forms of protist; and (5) occurrence of the tubular microfossil Sinocyclocylicus guizhouensis. Since the Tianzhushania-dominated assemblage is not present in Australia, it seems that only the upper acanthomorph assemblage is present and thus the lower Doushantuo acanthomorph assemblage is missing in Australia.展开更多

Observations from space and in situ cr...In the East China Sea(ECS), the succession of causative species responsible for blooms is a recurrent phenomenon during the spring, which changes from diatoms to dinoflagellates. Observations from space and in situ cruises captured this pattern of succession during spring of 2005. In this study, we coupled two biological models, which were developed previously for Skeletonema costatum and Prorocentrum donghaiense,into a circulation model tailored for the ECS. The coupled biophysical model was used to hindcast the blooms and to test the hypothesis proposed in earlier studies that phosphate(PO4 3–) is the first-order decider of the succession. The coupled model successfully reproduced the hydrodynamics(as described in a companion paper by Sun et al.(1), the spatiotemporal distribution of the chlorophyll a(Chl a) concentration, and the species succession reasonably well. By analyzing the effects of different factors on the surface Chl a distribution, we confirmed that the offshore boundaries of the blooms were confined by PO4 3–. In addition, we suggest that surface wind fields may modulate the horizontal distribution of blooms. Thus, during the dispersal of blooms, surface winds coupled with PO4 3– may control the succession of blooms in the ECS. The proposed coupled model provides a benchmark to facilitate future improvements by including more size classes for organisms, multiple nutrient schemes, and additional processes.展开更多
The Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous Santai Formation, sporadically distributed in western Shandong Province, comprises terrestrial alluvial-eolian successions, which records regional wind patterns and paleogeography in...The Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous Santai Formation, sporadically distributed in western Shandong Province, comprises terrestrial alluvial-eolian successions, which records regional wind patterns and paleogeography in eastern North China. This paper conducts an analysis of eolian stratification, bounding surfaces, facies architecture and paleowind direction of the Santai Formation in the east of the Mengyin Basin, western Shandong Province. Three basic types of eolian stratification are recognized in the Santai Formation, including grainflow strata, wind ripple strata and adhesion strata, and have been grouped into eolian dune and interdune facies associations. The occurrences of reactivation surfaces and superimposition surfaces within eolian dune deposits indicate active compound dunes or draas. The association of adhesion strata with grainflow or windripple strata is the development of a wet eolian system. Cross-strata dip direction indicates different paleowind directions from the lower to the upper part of the Santai paleoerg. The lower part of the paleoerg was characterized by paleowinds blowing from northwest to northeast, whereas the upper part was under the influence of paleowinds consistently towards east to northeast. The identified changes in wind directions possibly suggest wind regime shifts from monsoon circulation to westlies of planetary wind system, which may be related with the collapse of the East China Plateau during the Late Jurassic to Early Cretaceous.展开更多

The violent form of this contradiction is geological disasters. Geological disasters pose a threat to human life and property, and cause damage caused by natural or human factors, often causing casualties. The destruction process of geological disasters is usually a gradual process, showing many pre-disaster symptoms, such as local landslides, surface cracks, building deformation, tree skew, and ground sound. Evacuation can be avoided in advance according to the disaster precursors, so as to avoid casualties and achieve successful prediction. By reviewing the general situation of geological disasters in Shaanxi Province and the casualties in 2020, the difficulties in the prevention and control of geological disasters are summarized. In view of these difficulties, an on-site investigation, visit and analysis of geological disaster points and successful forecast points in Shaanxi Province in 2020 were conducted. In addition, combined with actual cases and years of work experience, the successful prediction experience of geological disasters was discussed from 8 aspects. Finally, the “Regulations on the Reward for Successful Geological Disaster Forecasting in Shaanxi Province” was revised in order to improve the successful prediction ability of geological disasters in Shaanxi Province and even the whole country, provide reference for future prevention and control of geological disasters, and effectively protect the safety of people’s lives and property.展开更多
Objectives:To examine the level of successful aging and the relationship between successful aging and activities of daily living(ADL),life satisfaction,social support,income,and self-efficacy among community-dwelling ...Objectives:To examine the level of successful aging and the relationship between successful aging and activities of daily living(ADL),life satisfaction,social support,income,and self-efficacy among community-dwelling elderly in Wenzhou,China.Methods:A descriptive correlational design was applied.Subjects were community-dwelling elderly in 4 districts of Wenzhou,China.Simple random sampling was used to recruit 83 participants.All participants were screened using the Mini-Cog tool.Data were collected using 6 questionnaires such as a demographic questionnaire,the Successful Aging Inventory(SAI),the Barthel Index for ADL,the Satisfaction With Life Scale(SWLS),the Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS),and the General Self-Efficacy Scale(GSES).Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation analysis.Results:The results showed that 53%of the participants had a higher level of successful aging and 43.4%had a moderate level of successful aging with a mean score of 56.76(standard deviation[SD]=12.31).Factors such as elderly income(r=0.73,P<0.001)and self-efficacy(r=0.72,P<0.001)had high correlations with successful aging,whereas ADL(r=0.67,P<0.001),life satisfaction(r=0.63,P<0.001),and social support(r=0.36,P<0.001)had moderate correlations with successful aging.Conclusions:There was a significant positive correlation between successful aging and ADL,life satisfaction,social support,income,and self-efficacy among community-dwelling elderly in Wenzhou,China.The findings may guide the formulation of more effective health education and intervention measures to improve successful aging among the elderly.展开更多
Issues of scale and aggregation become important when large range of space and time scales is considered in landscape models.However,identifying appropriate levels of aggregation to accurately represent the processes ...Issues of scale and aggregation become important when large range of space and time scales is considered in landscape models.However,identifying appropriate levels of aggregation to accurately represent the processes and components of ecological systems is challenging.A raster-based spatially explicit forest landscape model,LANDIS,was used to study the effects of spatial aggregation on simulated spatial pattern and ecological process in Youhao Forest Bureau of the Small Khingan Mountain in Northeastern China.The model was tested over 500 simulation years with systematically increased levels of spatial aggregation.The results show that spatial aggregation significantly influences the simulation of fire disturbance,species abundance,and spatial pattern.Simulated fire regime was relatively insensitive to grain size between 30.m and 270.m in the region.Spatial aggregation from 300.m to 480.m dramatically decreased fire return interval(FRI) and increased mean fire size.Generally,species abundance and its aggregation index(AI) remained higher level over simulation years at the fine-grained level of spatial aggregation than at coarser grains.In addition,the simulated forest dynamics was more realistic at finer grains.These results suggest that appropriate levels of spatial aggregation for the model should not be larger than 270m.展开更多

[ Method] A succession model for vegetation and burial depth of groundwater level was constructed based on field survey, and it was used to pre- dict the vegetation succession rules and process according to the changes in burial depth of groundwater level in Subei Lake watershed under groundwater exploitation. [ Result~ In Subei Lake watershed, aquatic vegetation was most closely related to burial depth of groundwater level, fol- lowed by mesophytic vegetation, while psammophilous and xerophytic vegetation did not have obvious relation with burial depth of groundwater lev- el. When burial depth of groundwater level was small, dominant plants grew well, but they grew worse or died with the increase in burial depth of groundwater level. As the groundwater level fell constantly, burial depth of groundwater level went up, and vegetation succession would occur grad- ually from aquatic vegetation to mesophytic and xerophytic vegetation, from Carex L. and Iris ensata Thunb shoaly land to Achnatherum splendens shoaly lands, from Salix psammophila shrubs to Artemisia desterorum Spreng and Caragana korshinskii shrubs, and from Populus simonii to Salix matsudana. In addition, combined with actual cases and years of work experience, the successful prediction experience of geological disasters was discussed from 8 aspects. Finally, the “Regulations on the Reward for Successful Geological Disaster Forecasting in Shaanxi Province” was revised in order to improve the successful prediction ability of geological disasters in Shaanxi Province and even the whole country, provide reference for future prevention and control of geological disasters, and effectively protect the safety of people’s lives and property.
文摘Objectives:To examine the level of successful aging and the relationship between successful aging and activities of daily living(ADL),life satisfaction,social support,income,and self-efficacy among community-dwelling elderly in Wenzhou,China.Methods:A descriptive correlational design was applied.Subjects were community-dwelling elderly in 4 districts of Wenzhou,China.Simple random sampling was used to recruit 83 participants.All participants were screened using the Mini-Cog tool.Data were collected using 6 questionnaires such as a demographic questionnaire,the Successful Aging Inventory(SAI),the Barthel Index for ADL,the Satisfaction With Life Scale(SWLS),the Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS),and the General Self-Efficacy Scale(GSES).Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation analysis.Results:The results showed that 53%of the participants had a higher level of successful aging and 43.4%had a moderate level of successful aging with a mean score of 56.76(standard deviation[SD]=12.31).Factors such as elderly income(r=0.73,P<0.001)and self-efficacy(r=0.72,P<0.001)had high correlations with successful aging,whereas ADL(r=0.67,P<0.001),life satisfaction(r=0.63,P<0.001),and social support(r=0.36,P<0.001)had moderate correlations with successful aging.Conclusions:There was a significant positive correlation between successful aging and ADL,life satisfaction,social support,income,and self-efficacy among community-dwelling elderly in Wenzhou,China.The findings may guide the formulation of more effective health education and intervention measures to improve successful aging among the elderly.

文摘Issues of scale and aggregation become important when large range of space and time scales is considered in landscape models.However,identifying appropriate levels of aggregation to accurately represent the processes and components of ecological systems is challenging.A raster-based spatially explicit forest landscape model,LANDIS,was used to study the effects of spatial aggregation on simulated spatial pattern and ecological process in Youhao Forest Bureau of the Small Khingan Mountain in Northeastern China.The model was tested over 500 simulation years with systematically increased levels of spatial aggregation.The results show that spatial aggregation significantly influences the simulation of fire disturbance,species abundance,and spatial pattern.Simulated fire regime was relatively insensitive to grain size between 30.m and 270.m in the region.Spatial aggregation from 300.m to 480.m dramatically decreased fire return interval(FRI) and increased mean fire size.Generally,species abundance and its aggregation index(AI) remained higher level over simulation years at the fine-grained level of spatial aggregation than at coarser grains.In addition,the simulated forest dynamics was more realistic at finer grains.These results suggest that appropriate levels of spatial aggregation for the model should not be larger than 270m.

文摘[Objective] The study aimed to analyze vegetation succession process under groundwater mining conditions in Subei Lake watershed. [ Method] A succession model for vegetation and burial depth of groundwater level was constructed based on field survey, and it was used to pre- dict the vegetation succession rules and process according to the changes in burial depth of groundwater level in Subei Lake watershed under groundwater exploitation. [ Result~ In Subei Lake watershed, aquatic vegetation was most closely related to burial depth of groundwater level, fol- lowed by mesophytic vegetation, while psammophilous and xerophytic vegetation did not have obvious relation with burial depth of groundwater lev- el. When burial depth of groundwater level was small, dominant plants grew well, but they grew worse or died with the increase in burial depth of groundwater level. As the groundwater level fell constantly, burial depth of groundwater level went up, and vegetation succession would occur grad- ually from aquatic vegetation to mesophytic and xerophytic vegetation, from Carex L. and Iris ensata Thunb shoaly land to Achnatherum splendens shoaly lands, from Salix psammophila shrubs to Artemisia desterorum Spreng and Caragana korshinskii shrubs, and from Populus simonii to Salix matsudana. [Condusion] The research could provide scientific references for studying the relationship between groundwater resources and ecological environment in Subei Lake basin.
