TiO2 grafted silica MCM-41 catalyst with and without sulfate treatment were prepared. The structural and acid properties of these materials were investigated by XRD, N2 adsorption-desorption, element analysis, thermal analysis, Raman and FTIR measurements. Their acid-catalytic activities were evaluated using the cyclization reaction of pseudoionone. It was found that the obtained materials possess well-ordered mesostructure, and the grafted TiO2 components were in highly dispersed amorphous form. T/MCM41 without sulfation contained only Lewis acid sites, while Brφnsted and Lewis acidities were remarkably improved for the sulfated materials ST/MCM41 and d-ST/MCM41. T/MCM-41 was not active for the cyclization reaction of pseudoionone, but ST/MCM-41 and d-ST/MCM-41 possessed favorable catalytic activities. The catalytic performance of ST/MCM-41 was comparable with that of the commercial solid acid catalyst of Amberlyst-15, and better than that of d-ST/MCM-41, although the latter underwent a second TiO2 grafting process and accordingly had higher Ti and S content. The specific surface structure of Si-O-Ti-O-S=O in ST/MCM-41 and the bilateral induction effect of Si and S=O on Si-O-Ti bonds were speculated to account for its higher acid catalytic activity. 展开更多

Calcium sulfate whiskers(CSWs) modified with glutaraldehyde-crosslinked poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA) or traditional surface modifiers, including silane coupling agent, titanate coupling agent and stearic acid, were used to strengthen poly(vinyl chloride)(PVC),and the morphologies, mechanical and heat resistant properties of the resulting composites were compared. The results clearly show that glutaraldehyde cross-linked PVA modified CSW/PVC composite(c PVA@CSW/PVC) has the strongest interfacial interaction, good and stable mechanical and heat resistant properties.Nielsen's modified Kerner's equation for Young's modulus is better than other models examined for the CSW/PVC composites. The half debonding angle θ of c PVA@CSW/PVC composite is lower than that of other composites except silane coupling agent modified CSW/PVC composites, indicating a very strong interfacial adhesion between c PVA@CSW and PVC.In general,cross-linked PVA is effective and environmentally friendly in modifying inorganic fillers. 展开更多

Sulfation treatment has been widely used to promote the catalytic performance of ceria(CeO_(2))based catalysts for the selective catalytic reduction of NO by NH_(3)(NH_(3)-SCR of NO).Praseodymium oxide(PrO_(x)),another commonly used rare earth material with similar structural properties as CeO_(2),also shows satistactory redox properties due to the facile redox cycle of Pr^(3+)■Pr^(4+).In this work, gas phase sulfation treatment with varied duration was performed on PrO_(x) at 200℃,and the NH_(3)-SCR activity of sulfated PrO_(x) was evaluated.Based on the results of systematic characterizations(e.g.,N_(2)-physisorption,NH_(3) oxidation,NO oxidation,in situ diffuse Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy),it is revealed that the catalytic performance of sulfated PrO_(x)is highly dependent on the sulfation time(or the amount of sulfate species deposited on PrO_(x)),which has a significant impact on the competitive reaction between NH_(3) oxidation and NH_(3)-SCR of NO,thus determining the NH_(3)-SCR activity of PrO_(x).This work provides new insight into tuning the interaction between PrO_(x) surface and reactants(NO,NH_(3))via sulfation treatment, which cam guide the design and application of PrO_(x)based catalysts for NH_(3)-SCR of NO in the future. 展开更多
