Three insecticides (methamidophos,Shachongshuang and triazophos) were used to control the rice leaffolder Cnaphalocrocis medinalis and rice striped stemborer Chilo suppressalis in rice fields during 18—27 days after transplantating. The impacts of timing and insecticides on the population development of brown planthopper Nilaparavata lugens was surveyed by direct counting on the plants or by tapping method.展开更多

They contribute to our knowledge of the flora in thisdistrict. Based on the occurrence of common plants (Hedeia, Huia, Guangnania and Zosterophyllumaustralianum) and their horizons, it is proved for the first time that the mid-lower assemblage ofthe Xujiachong flora is comparable with the Early Devonian ((late) Pragian) Posongchong flora ofsoutheastern Yunnan and the upper Baragwanathia flora of Australia. In view of this fact and thestratigraphic sequence, the mid-lower part of the Xujiachong Formation is considered to be of (late)Pragian age. Through comprehensive analyses of plant, bivalve and fish assemblages and thelithology, the upper part of the Xujiachong Formation is dated to he of early Emsian age. TheXujiachong flora belonged to the northeastern Gondwana palaeophytogeographic unit during the EarlyDevonian. The early Emsian assemblage of this flora inherited the characters of the Posongchongflora and also exhibited the endemic elements. Belonging to different phytogeographic units, theXujiachong and Posongchong floras differ from the coeval flora of the Laurussian palaeocontinent. The Xujiachong flora is comparatively simple in composition, while the Posongchong flora hasabundant and highly diversified endemics. The disparity between them has resulted from the differentenvironments.展开更多

Crude extracts were from Plectranthus barbatus, Tephrosia vogelii, Sphaeranthus suaveolens and Lantana camara. These were compared with commercial formulations Otiva fungicide and untreated as negative control. Their effectiveness was determined by measuring the inhibition zone of the mycelial growth of the pathogen recorded in triplicate at 48 hours and 72 hours. The results showed significant differences (P ≤ 0.001) among the extracting solvents on percentage inhibition of Phytophthora infestans. Methanol was superior in inhibiting the growth of mycelial growth of P. infestans as compared with ethyl acetate. Furthermore, all plants tested showed antifungal activity against P. infestans. The P. barbatus, L. camara and S. suaveolens were comparable with the commercial fungicide in inhibiting the growth of P. infestans. In this study, T. vogelii extract showed poor results in inhibiting the mycelial growth of P. infestans as compared with other plant extracts. Also, it was observed that, there were significant (P < 0.05) interactive effects between solvent and plant extracts and between incubation time and plant extracts.展开更多
