Supernova 1987A's Keyhole:A Long-lived Jet-pair in the Final Explosion Phase of Core-collapse Supernovae

I further study the manner by which a pair of opposite jets shape the“keyhole”morphological structure of the core-collapse supernova(CCSN)SN 1997A,now the CCSN remnant(CCSNR)1987A.By doing so,I strengthen the claim that the jittering-jet explosion mechanism accounts for most,likely all,CCSNe.The“keyhole”structure comprises a northern low-intensity zone closed with a bright rim on its front and an elongated low-intensity nozzle in the south.This rim-nozzle asymmetry is observed in some cooling flow clusters and planetary nebulae that are observed to be shaped by jets.I build a toy model that uses the planar jittering jets pattern,where consecutive pairs of jets tend to jitter in a common plane,implying that the accreted gas onto the newly born neutron star at the late explosion phase flows perpendicular to that plane.This allows for a long-lived jet-launching episode.This long-lasting jet-launching episode launches more mass into the jets that can inflate larger pairs of ears or bubbles,forming the main jets'axis of the CCSNR that is not necessarily related to a possible pre-collapse core rotation.I discuss the relation of the main jets'axis to the neutron star's natal kick velocity. 展开更多

Energy Conservation in the Thin Layer Approximation: I. The Spherical Classic Case for Supernovae Remnants 被引量:2

The thin layer approximation applied to the expansion of a supernova remnant assumes that all the swept mass resides in a thin shell. The thin layer approximation applied to the expansion of a supernova remnant assumes that all the swept mass resides in a thin shell. The law of motion in the thin layer approximation is therefore found using the conservation of momentum. Here we instead introduce the conservation of energy in the framework of the thin layer approximation. The first case to be analysed is that of an interstellar medium with constant density and the second case is that of 7 profiles of decreasing density with respect to the centre of the explosion. The analytical and numerical results are applied to 4 supernova remnants: Tycho, Cas A, Cygnus loop, and SN 1006. The back reaction due to the radiative losses for the law of motion is evaluated in the case of constant density of the interstellar medium. 展开更多

Past and Future of a Type Ia Supernovae Progenitor Candidate HD 265435

As one of the most useful cosmological distance indicators,type Ia supernovae(SNe Ia)play an important role in the study of cosmology.However,the progenitors of SNe Ia are still uncertain.It has been suggested that carbonoxygen white dwarf(CO WD)+He subgiant systems could produce SNe Ia through the double-degenerate(DD)model,in which the He subgiant transfers He-rich matter to the primary CO WD and finally evolves to another CO WD.Recently,a CO WD+He star system(i.e.,HD 265435)has been discovered to be a new SNe Ia progenitor candidate based on the DD model.The orbital period of the system is about 0.0688 days,and the masses of the CO WD and the He star are 1.01±0.15 M_(⊙) and 0.63_(-0.12)^(+0.13)M_(⊙),respectively.In this work,we evolve a large number of primordial binaries to the formation of CO WD+He star systems and investigate the evolutionary history of HD265435.We find that HD 265435 may originate from a primordial binary that has a 5.18 M_(⊙) primary and a3.66 M_(⊙) secondary with an initial orbital period of 5200 days.The CO WD+He star system would be formed after the primordial binary experiences two common-envelope ejection processes.We also find that HD 265435 would evolve to a double WD system with a total mass of 1.58 M⊙after a stable mass-transfer process,and the double WD system would merge driven by gravitational wave radiation.We estimate that it would take about 76 Myr for HD 265435 to form an SN Ia.In addition,HD 265435 would be a potential target of space-based gravitational wave observatories(e.g.,LISA,Taiji and TianQin). 展开更多

The astrophysical results are presented in a numerical way, except for a Taylor expansion of the four trajectories in the surrounding of the origin. In this paper,we perform the detailed modeling for the light curves(LCs)of PTF 10iuv which is a calcium-rich(Ca-rich)supernova(SN)to constrain the physical properties of its ejecta and the energy sources,as well as the explosion mechanism.We find that the^(56)Ni model and the56Ni plus circumstellar interaction model fail to explain the LCs,while the four-element(^(56)Ni,^(48)Cr,^(52)Fe,and^(44)Ti)model can account for the LCs.The ejecta mass of PTF10iuv derived by the model(1.52_(-0.25)^(+0.34)M_(⊙))is consistent with that of the merger of a sub-Chandrasekhar mass white dwarf.The early-time LCs were mainly powered by^(56)Ni whose mass is~0.03 M_(⊙),while the contributions of^(48)Cr and^(52)Fe can be neglected.The derived^(44)Ti mass(~0.25 M_(⊙))is~1.8 times the upper limit of the derived^(44)Ti mass of Ca-rich SN 2005E.We suggest that subtracting the contributions of the host-galaxy,which are unknown,and including the flux from other long-lived elements(e.g.,^(57)Co,^(55)Fe,^(60)Co)can reduce the amount of^(44)Ti,and that this value can be regarded as an upper limit. 展开更多

Here we extend the conservation of energy in the framework of the thin layer approximation to the asymmetrical case. Four types of interstellar mediums are analysed, in which the density follows an inverse square profile, a power law profile, an exponential profile and a toroidal profile. An analytical solution for the radius as a function of time and the polar angle in spherical coordinates is derived in the case of the inverse square profile. The analytical and numerical results are applied to two supernova remnants: SN 1987A and SN 1006. The back reaction due to the radiative losses is evaluated in the case of the inverse square profile for the surrounding medium. Two models for the image formation are presented, which explain the triple ring visible in SN 1987A and the jet feature of SN 1006. 展开更多

We present high spatial resolution X-ray spectroscopy of the supernova remnant Cassiopeia A with the Chandra observations. The X-ray emitting region of this remnant was divided into 38 × 34 pixels of 10″× 10″ each. Spectra of 960 pixels were created and fitted with an absorbed two component non-equilibrium ionization model. From the results of the spectral analysis we obtained maps of absorbing column density, temperatures, ionization ages, and the abundances of Ne, Mg, Si, S, Ca and Fe. The Si, S and possibly Ca abundance maps show obvious jet structures, while Fe does not follow the jet but seems to be distributed perpendicular to it. The abundances of Si, S and Ca show tight correlations between one another over a range of about two dex. This suggests that they are ejecta from explosive O- burning and incomplete Si-burning. Meanwhile, the Ne abundance is well correlated with that of Mg, indicating them to be the ashes of explosive C/Ne burning. The Fe abundance is positively correlated with that of Si when the latter is lower than 3 times the solar value, and is negatively correlated when higher. We suggest that such a two phase correlation is due to the different ways in which Fe was synthesized. 展开更多

The light curves (LC) for Supernova (SN) can be modeled adopting the conversion of the flux of kinetic energy into radiation. This conversion requires an analytical or a numerical law of motion for the expanding radius of the SN. In the framework of conservation of energy for the thin layer approximation, we present a classical trajectory based on a power law profile for the density, a relativistic trajectory based on the Navarro-Frenk-White profile for the density, and a relativistic trajectory based on a power law behaviour for the swept mass. A detailed simulation of the LC requires the evaluation of the optical depth as a function of time. We modeled the LC of SN 1993J in different astronomical bands, the LC of GRB 050814 and the LC GRB 060729 in the keV region. The time dependence of the magnetic field of equipartition is derived from the theoretical formula for the luminosity. 展开更多

We present photometric observations in Sloan filters g′, i′of the eclipsing W UMa stars USNOA2.0 1350-17365531, V471 Cas, V479 Lac and V560 Lac. The sinusoidal-like O-C diagram of V471 Cas indicates the presence of a third body with mass 0.12 M_⊙(a red dwarf) at distance 897 R_⊙. The O-C diagram of V479 Lac reveals a period decrease of d P/dt =-1.69 × 10-6d yr-1. The results of the light curve solutions are:(i) the targets are overcontact binaries with small fill-out factors;(ii) their components are F–K stars, comparable in size, whose temperature differences are below 80 K;(iii) all targets undergo partial eclipses and to limit the possible mass ratios we carried out two-step q-search analysis. The target global parameters(luminosities, radii, masses) were obtained on the basis of their Gaia distances and the results of our light curve solutions. The obtained total mass of V560 Lac turns out to be smaller than the lower mass limit for presently known W UMa binaries of 1.0-1.2 M_⊙, i.e. this target is a peculiar overcontact system. 展开更多

Revision of the photometric parameters of BS Cassiopeiae

Seven charge-coupled device (CCD) photometric times of light minimum of the overcontact binary BS Cas which were obtained from 2007 August to November and one CCD light curve in the R band which was observed on 2007... Seven charge-coupled device (CCD) photometric times of light minimum of the overcontact binary BS Cas which were obtained from 2007 August to November and one CCD light curve in the R band which was observed on 2007 September 24 and October 15, are presented. It is found that the light curve ofBS Cas has characteristics like a typical EW-type light variation. The light curve obtained by us is symmetric and shows total eclipses, which is very useful for determining photometric parameters with high precision. Photometric solutions were derived by using the 2003 version of the Wilson-Devinney code. It shows that BS Cas is a W-subtype overcontact binary (f = 27.5% ± 0.4%) with a mass ratio of q = 2.7188± 0.0040. The temperature difference between the two components is 190 K. Analysis of the 042 curve suggests that the period of AE Phe shows a long-term continuous decrease at a rate of dP/dt = - 2.45 × 10^-7 d yr^- 1 The long-time period decrease can be explained by mass transfer from the primary to the secondary. 展开更多

We present late-time photometry for two bright type II-P supernovae (SNe) 2004dj and 2004et, extending over 400 d after the explosion, which are measured with a set of intermediate-band filters that have the advantage of tracing the strength variations of some spectral features. Although these two SNe II-P exhibit similar photometric evolution at earlier times, they diverge during the nebular phase. SN 2004dj shows a slow late-time decline rate with - 0.7 ±0.1 mag (100d)^-1 during the period ranging from t ≈ 200 - 300 d after the explosion, while SN 2004et shows a much faster decline rate at a comparable phase, e.g., 1.3 ± 0.1 mag (100d)^-1. The steeper decay rate seen in SN 2004et is likely due to dust formation in the explosion ejecta. Based on intermediate-band photometry, we derived the evolution of the feature lines [e.g., Hα] of SNe 2004dj and 2004et which are similar in flux at comparable phases but perhaps with significantly different decay rates. The origin of the observed variations in the continuum and the feature lines is briefly discussed. 展开更多

Cassiopeia A,the brightest radio supernova remnant(SNR)in the sky,has several unique characteristics in comparison to its peers.Besides its radio brightness and prominent soft-concave radio spectrum,itsγ-ray spectrum appears to have a low-energy cutoff near 2 GeV,and it is the only SNR with prominent hard X-ray emission.While the unusual radio properties may be attributed to strong emission from reverse shocks,the hard X-ray emission has been associated with high-speed inward shocks induced by high density gases.Then,the low-energyγ-ray spectral cutoff could be attributed to slow penetration of lower energy particles accelerated near the inward shocks into high-density emission zone.In this paper,we carry out magneto-hydrodynamic(MHD)simulations of shocks in Cassiopeia A and demonstrate that its inward shock structure can indeed be reproduced via shock interactions with clumps of gases with a density of 20 cm-3. 展开更多

A Pre-explosion Effervescent Zone for the Circumstellar Material in SN 2023ixf

I present the effervescent zone model to account for the compact dense circumstellar material(CSM)around the progenitor of the core collapse supernova(CCSN)SN 2023ixf.The effervescent zone is composed of bound dense clumps that are lifted by stellar pulsation and envelope convection to distances of≈tens×au,and then fall back.The dense clumps provide most of the compact CSM mass and exist alongside the regular(escaping)wind.I crudely estimate that for a compact CSM within R_(CSM)≈30 au that contains M_(CSM)≈0.01 M_(⊙),the density of each clump is k_(b)≳3000 times the density of the regular wind at the same radius and that the total volume filling factor of the clumps is several percent.The clumps might cover only a small fraction of the CCSN photosphere in the first days post-explosion,accounting for the lack of strong narrow absorption lines.The long-lived effervescent zone is compatible with no evidence for outbursts in the years prior to the SN 2023ixf explosion and the large-amplitude pulsations of its progenitor,and it is an alternative to the CSM scenario of several-years-long high mass loss rate wind. 展开更多

We present high spatial resolution X-ray spectroscopy of supernova rem- nant G292.0+1.8 made with Chandra observations. The X-ray emitting region of this remnant was divided into 25 × 25 pixels with a scale of 20" × 20" each. Spectra of 328 pixels were created and fitted with an absorbed one component non-equilibrium ionization model. With the spectral analysis results, we obtained maps of absorbing column density, temperature, ionization age and abundances for O, Ne, Mg, Si, S and Fe. The abundances of O, Ne and Mg show tight correlations between each other in the range of about two orders of magnitude, suggesting that they are all from explo- sive C/Ne burning. Meanwhile, the abundances of Si and S are also well correlated, indicating that they are the ashes of explosive O-burning or incomplete Si-burning. The Fe emission lines are not prominent in the whole remnant, and their abundance is significantly reduced, indicating that the reverse shock may not have propagated to the Fe-rich ejecta. Based on relative abundances of O, Ne, Mg, Si and Fe to Si, we suggest a progenitor mass of 25 - 30 M⊙ for this remnant. 展开更多

The neutrino burst detected during supernova SN 1987A is explained in a strangeon star model, in which it is proposed that a pulsar-like compact object is composed of strangeons (strangeon: an abbreviation for "strange nucleon"). A nascent strangeon star's initial internal energy is calculated, with the inclusion of pion excitation (energy around 1053 erg, comparable to the gravitational binding energy of a collapsed core). A liquid-solid phase transition at temperature - 1 - 2 MeV may occur only a few tens of seconds after core collapse, and the thermal evolution of a strangeon star is then modeled. It is found that the neutrino burst observed from SN 1987A can be reproduced in such a cooling model. 展开更多
