It is a rare condition that occurs along the embryological mammary line. In less than 1% of all breast cancers, supernumerary breast cancer is reported, with the axillary location being the most common in 60% to 90% of cases. Cancerous degeneration of this supernumerary breast tissue can pose a dual diagnostic and therapeutic problem. We report the case of locally advanced adenocarcinoma in a right supernumerary breast. This is a 75-year-old, grand-multiparous, postmenopausal, and known hypertensive patient on treatment. Family history was remarkable for brain cancer in her sister and oesophageal cancer in her mother. She consulted for a mass in the right axillary cavity on supernumerary breast evolving for a year. Clinical examination revealed a large, fixed, budding and haemorrhagic-ulcerated mass of the right axilla, with long axis measuring about 15 cm. There was as wella supernumerary breast on the left, but without particularity. A soft tissue ultrasound showed a large hypoechoicmass in the right axillary region of 116 mm with areas of central necrobiosis. Morphologically, the breasts were normal. A breast MRI revealed a subcutaneous mass in the right axillary cavity with skin ulceration and satellite lymphadenopathy. The extension assessment revealed liver metastases, and a biopsy of the mass revealed a breast adenocarcinoma. The case was the subject of a multidisciplinary consultation meeting following which a wide excision of the mass was indicated. The histo-pathology analysis results of the surgical specimen were in favour of a triple negative papillary adenocarcinoma. After a post-operative multidisciplinary consultation meeting, adjuvant chemotherapy was indicated. The development of supernumerary breasts depends on hormones, just like normal breasts. Breast cancer in accessory breast tissue is quite rare with the incidence being 6%. The most common pathology is invasive carcinoma (50% - 75%). It is usually located in the armpit (60% - 70%) although it can be present in other less common locations such as the inframammary region (5% - 10%) and rarely the thighs, perineum, groin and the vulva. Since accessory axillary breast tissue is not considered during breast screening examination, it is necessary for clinicians to be aware of this entity and associated pathologies. Their preventive excision in women at high risk can also be considered.展开更多

The panoramic radiography was complemented by the Donovan's radiographic technique; but because of the proximity of the dental element to the mandibular ramus, it was not possible to have a final fusion diagnosis. Hence, the Cone-Beam Computed Tomography--which provides precise three- dimensional information--was used to determinate the fusion diagnosis and also to help in the surgical planning. In this case report we observed that the periapical, occlusal and panoramic were not able to show details which could only be examined through the cone-beam computed tomo- graphy.展开更多

Materials and Methods: It was a descriptive and retrospective study which used registered notes and panoramic radiographs of 12,984 patients who visited the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the 2nd Affiliated Hospital of Jiamusi University, China between June 2011 to November 2015. Patients diagnosed with any syndrome or hereditary diseases were excluded from the study. The features of supernumerary teeth were noted and the data were analyzed using SPSS program, (version 20, Inc., Chicago, USA). The Chi-square test was used to determine the differences in the distribution of supernumerary teeth. It was tested at the 5% level of significance. Results: The prevalence was 5.2% and the most prevalent supernumerary teeth was incisor with 3.39% (n = 441). The supernumerary teeth were seen more in maxilla than mandible. The male to female ratio was 2.9:1. Specifically, higher prevalence of supernumerary teeth in male gender was statistically significant (p = 0.03). The supernumerary teeth mostly occurred in children of 5 - 10 years (62.3%), followed by young adolescent between 11 - 16 years (26.5%). Conclusion: The prevalence of supernumerary teeth was widely seen in children and young adolescent of Chinese population. The occurrence was mostly seen in maxilla than mandible and significantly higher in male than female.展开更多

A 31-year-old G1P0 female presented to our triage at 20 + 4 weeks gestation with a one-week history of painful bilateral axillary lumps. Her last menstrual period was consistent with an estimated gestational age of 39 + 3 weeks by LMP. She had emigrated from Bengal three years earlier with no other gynecological complaints and knew of no abnormalities on physical exam. The painful axillary lumps were found to be accessory breast tissue. This entity is presented as a palpable thickening that is most prevalent along the milk line in the region immediately below the breasts, along the abdomen, in the axilla and in the groin region adjacent to the vulva. Affected individuals may undergo premenstrual changes such as tenderness, swelling, and difficulty with shoulder range of motion and irritation. The onset of pregnancy stimulates the tissue and makes it more evident as it did with our patient.展开更多

The paper then discusses the status of ongoing research on the use of nanoparticles for cancer treatment. The research findings show that a centriole produces an electromagnetic field apparently due to the longitudinal oscillation of its microtubules (MTs). A cluster of centrioles is therefore presumed to produce an enhanced electromagnetic field. Individual centrioles are immersed in a cloud of electron-dense material (proteins) which together with the centrioles is known as the centrosome. A cluster of centrioles thus produces a cluster of centrosomes—a hallmark of cancer cells. With enhanced electromagnetic fields, centrosome clusters provide an attraction for magnetically charged nanoparticles. These nanoparticles however are not attracted to normal cells which with only two (or at most four) centrioles, have a weaker magnetic field. The idea is simple: Magnetized and therapeutic nanoparticles are directed toward tumors and then attracted to the centrosome clusters of the tumor cells. Once inside the tumor cells, the nanoparticles can release their toxins.展开更多

On his X-ray, the premolars 25, 34, 35, 44, 45 and the molar 47 were deeply impacted, retained by supernumerary teeth. The treatment consisted in the removal of persistent temporary teeth and supernumerary teeth with poor radicular set, except one premolar. The removal of this premolar located between the roots of tooth 36, was source of major risk;therefore, it was put under clinical supervision. After these extractions, a fixed orthodontic appliance enabled bringing impacted teeth to a functional position. Orthodontic treatment lasted 3 years with a monthly check-up. Ours results are stable after one year of decline.展开更多

Inca bones or interparietal (supernumerary) bones are rarely seen among dry human skulls. Their frequency of presentation is much less than that of sutural or Wormian bones. Inca bones or interparietal (supernumerary) bones are accepted as normal variants most often found in the occipitoparietal region of the skull. Their characteristic shape, a triangle, resembles a monument design of the Inca tribe of South America and Latin America. The significance of the presence of these variants is that Inca bones or interparietal bones may be mistaken for a skull fracture. From Newton’s geometric model of optics to Young’s wave model, the paper first establishes a solid foundation for the understanding of the formation of the rainbow in nature and through human vision, and then goes on examining the interferences of light, finally applying the model in reality for a better understanding of complex rainbow phenomena, with additional analysis on an unexpected finding about the correspondence of maximum view angle and shortest light path through hypothetical explanation based on the principle of least time and simulation of an elliptical droplet.展开更多

Methods: This study began with a 23-year-old boy (proband) who was referred to the department of oral and maxillofacial radiology with chief complaint of the upper-left first molar tooth and routine dental examination. While evaluating the panoramic radiograph, the patient had approximately 57 teeth in his both of the jaws. Clinical, radiographical and molecular features of the proband, two siblings and their parents were examined and then, DNA analysis was performed. Results: Overall, we present 3 CCD patients with a mutation in the VWRPY motif. The deletion of c. 1754_1757 delTTTG (NM_001024630.2) is determined and it leads to a frame shift mutation and stop codon, p. V585Gfs56X. Conclusions: The present study emphasized the importance of further clinical and molecular investigation when even a single case of CCD is identified within a family. This is the first study performed in Turkey about a family with a mutation in the VWRPY motif. Genotype-phenotype association studies in individuals with CCD are necessary to provide important insights into molecular mechanisms associated with this disease.展开更多

These characteristics may provide some useful clues on the study of pentatomid taxonomy and phylogeny.展开更多

Genotype-phenotype association studies in individuals with CCD are necessary to provide important insights into molecular mechanisms associated with this disease.
文摘The karyotypes and meiotic behaviors of three Carbula species( Carbula obtusangula Reuter, C.putoni (Jakovlev)and C. sinica Hsiao et Cheng)were studied.Karyotype analyses using specific software were made and model karyotype chart was presented. All three species have the typical diploid chromosome number of 14 for the family Pentatomidae and X Y sex chromosomal mechanism, but the behavior of autosomes and sex chromosomes during meiosis among three species are different, and one or two supernumerary chromosomes were detected in C.putoni. These characteristics may provide some useful clues on the study of pentatomid taxonomy and phylogeny.
