The investigated p...This study was concerned on the influence of cooking liquor parameters i.e. active alkali (AA) and sulfidity, on the properties of pulp produced from Thai bamboo by means of multivariate analysis. The investigated pulp properties were cooking yield and viscosity. The experiments were performed according to a face centered cube experimental design. Then, multiple linear regression (MLR) of independent and dependent variables were conducted with SPSS software using least square method. In order to optimize process, Pareto-Optimality method was employed. The obtained regression models were characterized by both descriptive and predictive ability (R^2 ≥ 95% and Rcv^2 ≥ 93%) and allowed the kraft pulping process with an acceptable viscosity ( 1110- 1 190 ml/g) and a total yield about 50% at a sulfidity level of 20-30% with 18% AA. Results indicated that high sulfidity at a lower AA could get high viscosity and relatively low kappa number for pulps. Also oxygen delignification was studied in this research.展开更多

In order to accelerate the diffusion of these air pollutants, the distributed regularity of the rock face temperature which is directly related to the air ventilation in deep open-pit mines should be studied. Here, we establish the key factors influencing the rock face temperature in a deep open-pit mine. We also present an empirical model of the rock face temperature variation in the deep open-pit mine, of which the performance is interestingly high compared with that of the field test. This study lays a foundation to study the ventilation thermodynamic theory in the deep open-pit mine, which is of great importance for theoretical studies and engineering applications of solving air pollution problem in deep open-pit mines.展开更多

Dual-Tree Complex Wavelet Transform derives desirable facial features to cope with the variation due to the illumination and facial expression changes. By adopting spectral regression and complex fusion technologies respectively, two improved neighborhood preserving discriminant analysis feature extraction methods were proposed to capture the face manifold structures and locality discriminatory information. Extensive experiments have been made to compare the recognition performance of the proposed method with some popular dimensionality reduction methods on ORL and Yale face databases. Carbon emissions have become a critical concern in the global effort to combat climate change,with each country or region contributing differently based on its economic structures,energy sources,and industrial activit...Carbon emissions have become a critical concern in the global effort to combat climate change,with each country or region contributing differently based on its economic structures,energy sources,and industrial activities.The factors influencing carbon emissions vary across countries and sectors.This study examined the factors influencing CO_(2)emissions in the 7 South American countries including Argentina,Brazil,Chile,Colombia,Ecuador,Peru,and Venezuela.We used the Seemingly Unrelated Regression(SUR)model to analyse the relationship of CO_(2)emissions with gross domestic product(GDP),renewable energy use,urbanization,industrialization,international tourism,agricultural productivity,and forest area based on data from 2000 to 2022.According to the SUR model,we found that GDP and industrialization had a moderate positive effect on CO_(2)emissions,whereas renewable energy use had a moderate negative effect on CO_(2)emissions.International tourism generally had a positive impact on CO_(2)emissions,while forest area tended to decrease CO_(2)emissions.Different variables had different effects on CO_(2)emissions in the 7 South American countries.In Argentina and Venezuela,GDP,international tourism,and agricultural productivity significantly affected CO_(2)emissions.In Colombia,GDP and international tourism had a negative impact on CO_(2)emissions.In Brazil,CO_(2)emissions were primarily driven by GDP,while in Chile,Ecuador,and Peru,international tourism had a negative effect on CO_(2)emissions.Overall,this study highlights the importance of country-specific strategies for reducing CO_(2)emissions and emphasizes the varying roles of these driving factors in shaping environmental quality in the 7 South American countries.展开更多
The purpose of this study is to enhance the algorithms towards the development of an efficient three dimensional face recognition system in the presence of expressions. The overall aim is to analyse patterns of expres...The purpose of this study is to enhance the algorithms towards the development of an efficient three dimensional face recognition system in the presence of expressions. The overall aim is to analyse patterns of expressions based on techniques relating to feature distances compare to the benchmarks. To investigate how the use of distances can help the recognition process, a feature set of diagonal distance patterns, were determined and extracted to distinguish face models. The significant finding is that, to solve the problem arising from data with facial expressions, the feature sets of the expression-invariant and expression-variant regions were determined and described by geodesic distances and Euclidean distances. By using regression models, the correlations between expressions and neutral feature sets were identified. The results of the study have indicated that our proposed analysis methods of facial expressions, was capable of undertaking face recognition using a minimum set of features improving efficiency and computation.展开更多
