Pangolins are currently considered the most endangered mammal species due to their high rank in local and international traffic. This species is protected in DRC and worldwide, unfortunately it is threatened by numerous human actions. The objective of this study is to identify the different reasons for which these animals are exploited, to provide information to determine from the opinions of the respondents the current state of the population from 2015 to today and to identify their hunting techniques by the local populations. We carried out surveys in the households of hunters, farmers and people practicing other professions in 12 villages, located within the RNT and surroundings areas. Two interview techniques were used: the individual interview and the participatory diagnostic technique. 175 people were interviewed individually. Nearly 97% of our respondents are motivated to consume pangolin as bush meat obtaining by hunting. The main reason for eating pangolin meat is 44% preference and 33% habit. The zone does not know the foreign solicitation of the exploitation of pangolins and its derivatives. The opinions of the population regarding the current state of pangolin in the Tayna Nature Reserve indicate that from 2015 to the present day the common pangolin “Manis tricuspis” has been abundant. Hunters use different hunting techniques, dominated by pickup for the Manis tricuspis, digging burrow, fire at the entrance of the burrow for Manis gigantea and the shotgun for the Manis tetradactyla. 展开更多

The specific objective of the study was to identify the role of traditional leaders in Cape Coast,Kumasi and Teshie in the governance structure of their societies through the observance of taboos. It was to have a good understanding of what constitutes governance and good governance in the context of the indigenous set-up;to assess the current nature of governance related taboos;and to evaluate the impact of contemporary society on taboos and the consequence of any impact of contemporary society on the taboos on indigenous governance. The research was guided by Creswell’s knowledge on research paradigm to describe a researcher’s philosophical view and conceptualization of reality. The research adopted mixed method approach in achieving the objective of the research by obtaining empirical data for the research questions. Two sets of instruments were adopted for data gathering. The first instrument was an interview guide that was used to solicit structured data from the respondents in order to elicit more candid and objective replies. The second instrument was a questionnaire, which was used in order to gather the exact responses relevant to the research from participants. The study found out that traditional rulers occupy unique position, hence in order to maintain certain standards to please their subjects on whose authority they rule, they cannot avoid observing taboos. It further showed that the Chieftaincy institution is an institution that cannot be done away with.It is recommended that both citizens and non-citizens in these traditional societies should be made to appreciate, respect and observe taboos associated with taboo days as a means to promote unity, peace and governance. 展开更多

Meanwhile, it is a carrier of culture. The use of language reflects connotation of culture, among which taboo and euphemism is both a kind of linguistic and cultural phenomena. Taboo and euphemism in English and Chinese reflects different cultures and customs, religious beliefs and moral tradition between Chinese and Western nations, which are also reflected in different cultural origins. This thesis explores Chinese and Western culture from taboo and euphemism, from which the similarities in psychological factors and in topics and the differences in naming and addressing, in privacy, in number, and in color between Chinese and English taboo and euphemism are found out. Through making a comparison about taboo and euphemism in two languages, the author discusses further the cultural origins causing the differences in terms of different national psychology, religious belief, social and family hierarchy, and value orientation in two cultures. The purpose of this thesis is to fully understand the different cultural backgrounds and different cultural phenomena between China and Western countries, in order to avoid needless misunderstandings and embarrassment in communication. 展开更多
