Expectedly, viewers tuned to broadcast stations within and outside their localities, expecting their receivers to faithfully reproduce the exact features of the transmitted signal. Akpabuyo is a dense forest zone near the creeks leading to the Atlantic ocean in Cross River State, Nigeria. The location has distinct environmental characteristics that made Akpabuyo Area Council, a challenging location to propagate electromagnetic waves;and therefore recipe for further investigation. Radio frequency analyzer, with 24 channels spectrum, ranging between 46 - 870 MHz (model: RO.VE.R.-“DLM3-T”) was deployed to capture signals from terrestrial television stations (TV). CATV measured signal of TV stations in dB, dBμV and dBmV. Its frequency ranged from 40 - 860 MHz;while varying from channel 1 to channel 69. Measurements taken from Akpabuyo L.G.A. showed the following results: the signal strength received from VHF Channel 11 ranged from 20 dBμV to 49 dBμV. From recorded empirical statistics from the study, 50% of the area received signal from this station above 30 dBμV, while other regions had signals below this value;representing the fringe zone of the frequency. The results obtained from the study relatively showed acceptance with Egli’s model. The study recorded a steady fluctuation between 17 dBμV and 19 dBμV from both propagating stations. However, Channel 27 signal at 519 MHz, had very weak signal coverage in Akpabuyo Local Government Area;with signal strength dropped to as low as 13 dB in many parts of the rural area. The study discovered that the state’s broadcasting stations, both at UHF and VHF channels did not transmit successfully across this densely forest (rural) location. Remedial measures such as installing Repeater stations at different locations as signal booster were recommended.展开更多

The current television model is undergoing a deep-rooted change, and its future depends, to a large extent, on its presence in cyberspace. For the purposes of this study, we selected the internet homepages of the 12 regional radio-television stations which together make up the Spanish Federation of Regional Radio and Television Organizations (FORTA). The aim was to carry out a research project using content analysis techniques.展开更多

The themes that I chose for the Xlets of the IDTV applications are Earthquake and Tsunami Early Warning;Recent Seismic Activity Report;and Emergency Services. The online data regarding the Recent Seismic Activity Report application are provided by the Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute (KOERI) of Bogazici University in Istanbul;while the online data for the Earthquake and Tsunami Early Warning and the Emergency Services applications are provided by the Godoro website which I used for storing (and retrieving by the Xlets) the earthquake and tsunami early warning simulation data, and the DVB network subscriber data (such as name and address information) for utilizing in the Emergency Services (Police, Ambulance and Fire Department) application. I have focused on the methodologies to use digital television as an efficient medium to convey timely and useful information regarding seismic warning data to the public, which forms the main research topic of this paper.展开更多

Product advertisement mostly benefits from the audiovisual commercials and advertisements on mass media (television, radio, newspaper, magazine, poster, brochure, Internet etc.). Today, TV, radio and Intemet are considered to have great importance among the most widely used means of mass media. Initial advertisement for each product plays a significant role in getting a bigger market share for that product. Thus, manufacturing companies need brands, taglines, catchphrases and jingles for their commercials broadcasted on mass media. Astonishing words or expressions which catch the consumers' attention play a highly significant role in commercials. Slogans which are created sometimes using melodious or rhythmical expressions, and imperatives, or sometimes slang and daily language support convincing power of the commercials. The mentioned slogans are indeed examples of creativeness. This study primarily includes the commercials, ways to produce slogans and their characteristics, together with identifying the slogans in the commercials broadcasted in Turkey and Russia, created by using language games, which include brand names. Then, aforementioned slogans will be reviewed with regards to artistic stylistics, a sub branch of functional stylistics. Finally, similar and different aspects of the language games in Turkish and Russian commercials will be compared based on the findings obtained from the analyses.展开更多

Some studies have found significant effect sizes while others have found low and non-significant effect sizes. Television effects scholars have postulated that these mixed results are caused by the inconsistencies of research methodology employed and the inability to control major mediating variables in the studies. The present study is designed with the objectives to overcome these shortcomings. The respondents for this study were 514 students aged between 13 and 18 from 10 schools in the State of Perak, Malaysia. Exploratory data analyses provided evidence that the employed instruments achieved sound psychometric properties. Hypotheses testing suggested that exposure to the Contents of Television Violence (TVCN) did not have a direct relationship with adolescents' aggressive behaviours; instead, Contextual Features of Television Violence (TVCX) totally mediated this relationship. Some other mediating variables then mediated totally and some mediated partially the relationship between TVCX and adolescents' aggressive behaviours. To conclude, this study provides valuable information for parents, the television industry, and the policy makers in recognizing pro-violent and anti-violent features of television violence programmes for Malaysian school-going adolescents. It also provides a new perspective for future studies of television violence in Malaysia.展开更多

Research was carried out in a qualitative manner, and participants were 12 Saudi students pursuing their studies at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, USA (IUP). Participants in the study were asked to compose a narrative after viewing a 5-minute film segment, both with and without captioning. Their responses were then analyzed, and results indicated that while captions may aid one in comprehension, they also tend to limit one's interpretations, reaffirming the nature of written language as an authoritative source of information.展开更多
