A systematic review of the effect of mobile health on cardiac rehabilitation among coronary heart disease patients

The aim of this sys... Objective: Mobile health (mHealth) provides an innovative and effective approach to promote prevention and management of coronary heart disease. However, the magnitude of its effects is unclear. The aim of this systematic review was to examine the impact of mHealth-based cardiac rehabilitation outcomes among coronary heart disease patients. Methods: Medline, CINAHL, Embase, PubMed, Google Scholar, NICE, and Cochrane library were searched for randomized controlled trials published between January 2002 and March 2017 which compared mHealth with conventional cardiac rehabilitation programs among coronary heart disease patients. Results: Eight articles were included in this review. The impact of mHealth interventions on physical activity, medicine adherence, smoking cessation, level of anxiety, and quality of life was inconsistent among the articles. Conclusions: Further research is needed to conclusively determine the impact of mHealth interventions on cardiac rehabilitation outcomes. The limitations of the included studies (e.g., inadequate sample size, failure to address the core components of cardiac rehabilitation programs, and lack of theory-based design) should be taken into account when designing future studies. 展开更多

If you don’t use it,you lose it.School breaks,during which students do not regularly participate in instruction,can therefore have negative consequences on learning.This is especially true for mathematics learning since skills build progressively on earlier materials.How can we bridge these gaps in formal instruction?The Keeping in School Shape(KisSS)program is a mobile,engaging,innovative,and cost-effective way of using technology to help students who have time off between related math courses stay fresh on prerequisite knowledge and skills.Founded on learning theory and designed on a model of behavioral change,the KiSS program embodies retrieval practice and nudges by sending students a daily multiple-choice review problem via text messaging over school break.After rating their confidence in solving the daily problem students receive feedback and a solution.This study explores measures of participation,accuracy,and confidence in an implementation of the KiSS program over winter break between two sequential introductory engineering courses at a large state university in the Southwest United States.Results indicate that careful attention should be paid to the construction of the first few days of the program,and that encouragement,problem difficulty may improve participation. 展开更多

The objective of this article is to show the influence of mobile phone use while driving on the performance of petroleum product drivers in Cameroon.The topical questioning centred on the series of accidents and near misses in general and specifically in the petroleum products sector and showed the need to look for other causes.To do so,we conceptually proposed a model derived from the literature review and adjusted by practical research,which shows that our approach is the hypothetico-deductive type.Methodologically,the observations from the experience of 90 questionnaires were operationalized using multivariate logistic regression analyses.The results indicate that making or receiving calls while driving significantly influences the occurrence of reckless driving situations.Reading and sending short message service(SMS or text messages)while driving negatively influences drivers’performance by increasing delivery times.The type of phone used has an effect on the risk of accidents or near misses.Indeed,drivers who use smartphones are 2.14 times more likely to experience crash-like events compared to those who use conventional mobile phones.In addition,with a view to reducing near misses and accidents,it is important to organize regular appropriate road safety campaigns,to install on-board cameras in all trucks,to provide rest areas and encourage drivers to stop at these areas to check their phones and catch up on missed calls.Additionally to introduce training for drivers in defensive driving with a renewable licence after a maximum of 2 years. 展开更多

Using no-cost mobile phone reminders to improve attendance for HIV test results: a pilot study in rural Swaziland 被引量:2

Background:Mobile technology has great potential to improve adherence and treatment outcomes in healthcare settings.However,text messaging and phone calls are unaffordable in many resource-limited areas.This study investigates the use of a no-cost alternative mobile phone technology using missed calls(‘buzzing’)to act as a patient reminder.The use of missed calls as a patient reminder was evaluated for feasibility and effectiveness as an appointment reminder in the follow-up of newly-diagnosed human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)positive patients in an HIV testing and counselling department in rural Swaziland.Methods:This pilot study uses a before-and-after operational research study design,with all patients with mobile phones being offered the intervention.The primary outcome was the rate of attendance at the HIV testing and counselling department for collection of results in those with mobile phones before and after the introduction of the intervention.Results:Over two-thirds,71.8%(459/639),of patients had a mobile phone.All patients with a mobile phone consented to being buzzed.There was no difference in attendance for follow-up at the clinic before and after the intervention was implemented(80.1%versus 83.3%,p=0.401),or after adjusting for confounding factors(OR 1.13,p=0.662).Conclusion:This pilot study illustrates that mobile technology may be feasible in rural,resource-poor settings as there are high rates of mobile phone ownership and the intervention had a 100%uptake rate,with positive feedback from staff and patients.In this particular setting,the intervention did not improve attendance rates.However,further research is planned to investigate the impact on adherence to appointments and medications in other settings,such as HIV chronic care follow-up and as part of an enhanced package to improve adherence. 展开更多
