On the Proof of the Contradiction of Set Theory

The article is devoted to proving the inconsistency of set theory arising from the existence of strange trees. All steps of the proof rely on common informal set-theoretic reasoning, but they take into account the prohibitions that were introduced into axiomatic set theories in order to overcome the difficulties encountered by the naive Cantor set theory. Therefore, in fact, the article is about proving the inconsistency of existing axiomatic set theories, in particular, the ZFC theory.

Diverse foraging strategies of breeding Swinhoe's Storm-petrel in the productive marginal sea of the Northwest Pacific

Understanding the foraging behavior is essential for investigating seabird ecology and conservation,as well as monitoring the well-being of the marine environment.Breeding seabirds adopt diverse foraging strategies to maximize energy gains and cope with the intensified challenges of parenting and self-maintenance.Such tradeoff may stem from the heterogeneity of food resources and the constraints of central place foraging.Nevertheless,abundant marine productivity could alleviate the energy limitation for seabirds,resulting in a consistent foraging approach.Here,we investigated the foraging strategy during the breeding season of a cryptic small-sized seabird,Swinhoe’s Storm-petrel(Hydrobates monorhis),in the Yellow Sea,a productive marginal sea of the Northwest Pacific.Using GPS tracking,we evaluated habitat preference,quantified the foraging strategy,and tested if environmental conditions and individual traits influence foraging trips.We found that Swinhoe’s Storm-petrels preferred nearshore areas with shallow water and engaged in primarily short foraging trips.Distinctive southeastward and southwestward strategies emerged when combining trip metrics,including foraging direction,duration,and maximum distance.The bathymetry,proximity to the coastline,and sea surface temperature differed in two foraging strategies.Foraging strategies exhibited flexibility between individuals,potentially explained by wing morphology,in which longer-winged birds are more likely to embark on longer-distance foraging trips.These findings highlight the impact of environmental factors and individual traits on seabirds’foraging decisions in productive marginal sea ecosystems.Our study also provides valuable insights into the foraging ecology of this Asian endemic storm-petrel.

Analysis of the Appealing Structure in Hemingway’s“A Clean,Well-lighted Place”

In the novel“A Clean,Well-lighted Place”,Hemingway tells the story of two waiters in a Spanish caféjust before closing time,talking about an old man who drank heavily in the caféevery night and lived a wealthy life but still wants to commit suicide.Using the iceberg principle,Hemingway purposely omits the plot,characterization of the story,and uses symbolism and repetition to describe people’s different attitudes facing the spiritual emptiness after the war,breaking the readers’expectations,and inspiring them to explore the meaning of individual life.Therefore,based on Wolfgang Iser and Zhu Liyuan’s appealing structure theory,this paper will analyze the appealing structure in“A Clean,Well-lighted Place”at three levels:meaning construction,rhetorical techniques,and thoughts and themes.It is hoped that readers can find a new way to interpret the short story,better understand the author’s creative ideas and dig deeper into the connotation of the work.

Assessing Flexible Places for Adaptive Urban Design:A New Method and the Case of Cittaducale

Each place has its own peculiarities,determining that the resilience and adaptation to diverse types of risks will be different,requiring different time and methods for mitigation as well.The coexistence of several risks determines further resolution difficulties as commonly,since risks are sudden and unforeseen,there is a tendency to treat the last risk more carefully,neglecting the previous one even if it is just as important.Most of the methodologies used to analyse areas affected by different risks are aimed at focusing in particular on seismic risks without considering those relating to intangible aspects linked to the identity of the places or aspects related to urban health and liveability.And,more in general,in relation to design aspects,urban methodologies do not consider all the results of the analyses,maybe for the difficulty deriving from translating the complexity of collected data in project interventions.Starting from these premises,the objective of the article,elaborated within the SISMI and PRIN 2020 research projects is to propose an original methodology capable of analysing the places affected by multiple risks and planning its resilience attentive to its cultural resources and to its liveability.To this end,the proposed method will be aimed at creating flexible and adaptive places and the case-study of Cittaducale will be illustrated.Criticalities and qualities of this place affected by an earthquake in 2016 will be reported and project interventions to transform its risks into opportunities will be shown.

Filling the Gap Between Heaven and Earth: One Building Two Sides

In this paper, the meaning of various symbols and rituals threaded into sacred architecture are explored. Spatial dynamics, forms, and aesthetics are analyzed as a space transforms from a Protestant megachurch to a Catholic Cathedral. Featuring a case study of the Christ Cathedral, formally known as the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, California, this research reveals how the act of worship is shaped by the architectural design in which it occurs. This study recognizes how stakeholders make sense of social, spatial, and spiritual components in a transitional place of worship;how the Protestant congregation and Catholic Diocese interact and how this transition effects the continuity of the Christian community. In this space, one building reveals two sides (formally Protestant, currently Catholic);the ritual sequencing, emblematic form, and symbolic aesthetics of the built form act as mediator of social practices of spiritual/religious practices of higher powers. Findings reveal ways that a physical place is designed to connect humans to their heavenly realms.

Study on the Changes of FDA Finished Pharmaceuticals Warning Letters between 2011 and 2021

Objective To explore the trends in the distribution of countries to which FDA warning letters for Finished Pharmaceuticals have been issued over the past 10 years,and whether there are changes in the number of GMP violations,and to study their possible causes.Methods Public data on FDA warning letters and inspections were retrieved and analyzed using statistical methods for different classifications.Results and Conclusion Asia was the continent that received the most GMP warning letters in the last 10 years.More inspections were conducted in developed countries than that in developing countries,but they received a small number of warning letters.Quality control unit responsibilities were the most variable within all violation codes.The number of warning letters issued by Center for Drug Evaluation and Research(CDER)for Finished Pharmaceuticals increases with the number of inspections,and the enforcement of GMP by domestic drug manufacturers is better than that of overseas drug manufacturers.In addition,drug manufacturers in developed countries are better at GMP implementation than developing countries.GMP compliance in China has become better in recent years,but it still receives more inspections and warning letters.FDA inspections of Finished Pharmaceuticals become more stringent in the last 10 years,and many quality unit issues are affected by both personnel qualifications and personnel numbers.

Design and Robustness Analysis of a Wave-Based Controller for Tethered Towing of Defunct Satellites

Dear Editor, A microgravity environment in space, the elasticity of the tether,and complex flexible appendages make the tethered-towing system a nonlinear and underactuated system, which is sensitive and difficult to stabilize. This letter develops a controller based on wave propagation for tethered towing of defunct satellites, and carries out a robustness analysis of the controller via numerical simulation.

Detecting the One-Shot Dummy Attack on the Power Industrial Control Processes With an Unsupervised Data-Driven Approach

Dear Editor,Dummy attack(DA), a deep stealthy but impactful data integrity attack on power industrial control processes, is recently recognized as hiding the corrupted measurements in normal measurements. In this letter, targeting a more practical case, we aim to detect the oneshot DA, with the purpose of revealing the DA once it is launched.Specifically, we first formulate an optimization problem to generate one-shot DAs. Then, an unsupervised data-driven approach based on a modified local outlier factor(MLOF) is proposed to detect them.
