This study aimed To find the factors influencing hepatitis c viral infections and to identify its prevalence among populations of the Algamosi area, Gezira state central Sudan. This cross-sectional community-based study was conducted. A total of 492 participants were randomly selected from among 4 villages and were interviewed to find out the factors that lead to transmission of infection and tested for markers of hepatitis C infection. ELISA confirmed all the positive card tests. The results showed that the individuals within the age groups > 45 and 31 - 45 years are more affected by HCV the percentage was 3.37% and 0.6% respectively, while the age groups of 15 - 30 and p < 0.05). Among the possible cause (1.4%) had a previous history of tattooing and were significantly reactive for anti-HCV (X<sup>2</sup> = 14.588 and p value = 0.001) The study concluded that the prevalence of hepatitis C viruses was only detected in three areas. This study explored many possible causes associated with viral hepatitis, tattooing is the common cause of hepatitis C virus. Based on the finding the study recommends, the crucial intervention program to screen most of the Algamosi population who have been not screened for HCV, proper treatment for HCV, and the health education program is strongly recommended to create awareness among the general population.展开更多

The association of gluckinase (GCK) gene with type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes mellitus was investigated in 168 Chinese subjects (85 unrelated type 2 diabetics and 83 non-diabetic controls), The microsatellite ...The association of gluckinase (GCK) gene with type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes mellitus was investigated in 168 Chinese subjects (85 unrelated type 2 diabetics and 83 non-diabetic controls), The microsatellite polymorphism marker, GCK-5', was amplified with polymerase chain reaction. Four alleles were observed in Chinese population with length varying from 137bp to 143bp and the most common one being the 139bp allele 3. In comparison with non-diabetics, allele 4 was significantly increased in type 2 diabetes (10% versus 38, respectively; X(2)=6.773, P=0.009); genotype 44 and 4X (X denotes any allele other than allele 4) were significantly increased in type 2 diabetes (16% versus 6% respectively; X(2)=6.439, P=0.011), The frequency difference was also shown in overweight / obese subgroup comparison (X(2)=7.718, P=0.021), but not in lean / normal-weight subgroup comparison, No differences of age of onset and frequency of positive family history were observed between type 2 diabetic patients with genotype 44 or 4X and those with XX. The risk for type 2 diabetes in Chinese with genotype 44 or 4X was about 3.5 times higher than in Chinese with genotype XX. Therefore, GCK gene was associated with Chinese type 2 diabetes.展开更多
To understand the role of genetic factors in the occurrence of esophageal cancer (EC) Methods A genetic epidemiological survey of 132?039 subjects, one tenth of the whole population of Yangquan city, Shanxi Provi...To understand the role of genetic factors in the occurrence of esophageal cancer (EC) Methods A genetic epidemiological survey of 132?039 subjects, one tenth of the whole population of Yangquan city, Shanxi Province in Northern China, was conducted in 1994 A total of 228 families with at least one newly occurring EC patient in each family were matched with equal number of control families for a 1∶1 case control study Results The heritability of esophageal cancer among first degree relatives was 52 6%, that among second degree relatives was 31 2%, and the weighted average heritability was 49 2% The segregation ratio was 0 176±0 033, significantly less than 0 25, suggesting a multifactorial inheritance or decreased penetrance of a major locus EC patients in families did not fit the binominal distribution, suggesting evidently familial aggregation The relative risks among the first degree relatives were 10 49 for males, 7 69 for females, and 9 17 for combined data The attributive risks among first degree relatives were 62 13/100?000 for males, 99 94/100?000 for females and 75 15/100?000 for combined data All of these figures were higher than 40 17/100?000, the average of general population of the city Conclusion Genetic factors play an important role in the pathogenesis of esophageal cancer in this area展开更多

It is found that the probe gain can be generated even when no probe field is applied to the system, we attribute this result to the existence of the external field.
