The main focus in this study is the Silk Road myth as a prominent case of those geopolitical imaginaries. The Silk Road discourse presents a definite example of mythmaking and geopolitical discourse in the Central Asia used by both regional actors such as China, Russia and external actors such as the United States. The main argument of this study is that each of those actors is referring the historical myth of Silk Road as a useful tool for pursuing their geopolitical vision and interests. So questioning this situation is important in the eyes of critical geopolitics because the same historical fact is constructed with different meanings and visions by different actors in accordance with their competing interests. In this study, the critical geopolitical theory and method are used to describe the emerging geopolitical discourse in the Central Asia such as: rising powers narrative, peaceful rise concept, and silk road imaginary.展开更多

This was due to the differences in commercial, economic, political, religious, and cultural environments proportional to the real environment's demand for Chinese characters and Chinese classical works. Chinese characters were introduced to Gaochang, Qiuci, Khotan, Korea, Japan, and Vietnam as early as the Han Dynasty, with different development paths in these regions. It is easy to form a long lasting culture spread by Chinese language and characters, as long as official languages are consistent with national or religious languages of the regions. It is difficult to form a long lasting culture spread by official languages and characters if the official languages and characters are inconsistent with either languages of daily life or religious languages. Once there is replacement of official languages and characters, or a change in religious belief, it would cause incompatibility between official languages and daily life languages, Chinese-character culture is bound to decline and gradually fade way. But if there are Han people, they will retain the use of Chinese characters.展开更多

Until now, many regions along the Silk Road still have broad prospect for development. These abundant tourist resources are also rich in cultural aspects. Among their natural scenery and folk custom, there are various tourist resources could be developed. Developing sport resource which is in the Yunnan section of the Silk Road will be important for boosting Yunnan' s tourism. After opening up its tourism, the sport tourism could be transformed into economic and industrial superiority, and then improves the whole economic development of Yunnan areas, achieving a coordinated development for Yunnan' s tourism and sport industry. The article analyses and studies the present situation of development which connected with the sport resource in the Yunnan section of the Silk Road. Basing on it, the article comes up with some suggestions about how to develop Yunnan' s sport tourism resource.展开更多

Water is the most active factor that harms the relics in the caves as it damages the grotto murals and painted sculptures. Thus, determining the water sources and driving forces of water movement is a key issue for protecting these cultural relics. These issues have troubled relics protectors for a long time. In this study, the authors chose a representative cave in the Mogao Grottoes and, by completely sealing the cave to make a closed system, measured the water vapor from the surrounding rock. This was accomplished by installing a condensation-dehumidification temperature-humidity control system for the collection of water vapor. The results show that there is continuous evaporation from the deep surrounding rock into the cave. The daily evaporation capacity is determined to be 1.02 g/(d·m2). The water sources and driving forces of water movement were further analyzed according to the character of the water evaporation and by monitoring the temperature and humidity of the surrounding rock. It was found that the water vapor in the cave derives from phreatic water. Moreover, the yearly fluctuation of temperature in the surrounding rock and geothermal forces are the basic powers responsible for driving phreatic evaporation. Under the action of the yearly temperature fluctuations, decomposition and combination of bound water acts as a "pump" that drives phreatic water migration and evaporation. When the temperature rises, bound water decomposes and evaporates; and when it falls, the rock absorbs moisture. This causes the phreatic water to move from deep regions to shallow ones. Determining the source and dynamic foundation of the water provides a firm scientific basis for protecting the valuable cultural relics in the caves.展开更多

The Sino-Turkish cultural ties revolve the succession and development of the sprit of the Silk Road constituted by reciprocal economic concepts, inclusive humanistic concepts and cooperative security concepts. It can also provide an example to multi-ethnic and multi-religious integration issues in global governance. The Sino-Turkish culture ties shoulder the missions of enhancing value communication, mutual trust and consensus against terrorism, which adds new connotation and new methods for China and Turkey, two powers at the ends of the Silk Road, to further deepen the bilateral relationship. China’s Silk Road strategy has created new opportunities to the cultural ties between China and Turkey, which is conducive to promote the relationship between China and the Arab-Islamic world and expand China’s influence in the Europe so as to promote the relationship between China and the West. A new mode of the Sino-Turkish Silk Road strategic cooperation can be established based on the Silk Road which connects Europe and Asia.展开更多
