“Focusing on treating the spirit(神)”is an important principle in acupuncture and moxibustion.It is a unique psychosomatic therapy involving the doctor and the patient,which includes regulating the spirit and the body.Traditional Chinese medicine attaches great importance to it.Focusing on treating the spirit is also a component of the standards of medical ethics.Only when doctors have noble medical ethics can they achieve clinical treatment of the mind and give full play to their skills to cure diseases.Focusing on treating the spirit runs through the entire clinical process of acupuncture and moxibustion.Before the treatment,it is necessary to focus on the spirit to distinguish the spirit and qi.During the treatment,attention should be paid to the mind to regulate the spirit and qi.It is the premise of clinical diagnosis and treatment of acupuncture and moxibustion and the key to the curative effect.Focusing on treating the spirit is also in the realm of doctor-patient double treatment,which requires doctor-patient communication before treatment and the preservation of the body and spirit after treatment.Therefore,concentration of the mind is the key to acupuncture and moxibustion treatment.

This paper investigates testable restrictions on the time-series behavior of consumption and asset returns implied by a representative agent model with the spirit of capitalism in which intertemporal preference is represented by a utility function that generalizes conventional, time-additive, expected utility. In the recursive structure of preference, the author examines the implication for cosumptions, portfolio holdings, and stock-market prices when investors accumulate wealth not only for the sake of consumption but also for wealth-induced social status. When investors care about relative social status, the propensity to consume and risk-taking behavior will depend on social standards, and stock prices will be volatible. Hence, the spirit of capitalism seems to be a driving force behind stock-market volatility and economic growth. Because the elasticity df substitution and the coefficient of relative risk aversion are independent and the spirit of capitalism is introduced, the equity premium puzzle can be partially explained in the model.

“Tongguan Liqiao”acupuncture method established by Xuemin Shi,a master of traditional Chinese medicine in China and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering,derives from the famous“Xing Nao Kai Qiao”therapy(activating the brain and opening the orifices)acupuncture method.It fundamentally takes“adjusting the spirit”as the root of selecting acupoints based on syndrome differentiation.Neiguan(PC 6),Renzhong(DU 26),and Sanyinjiao(SP 6)are selected as the main acupoints to adjust the spirit and revive the brain,nourish the liver and kidney,which treats the root cause.Acupoints such as Lianquan(RN 23),Yifeng(SJ 17),Wangu(GB 12),and Fengchi(GB 20)in the neck region are selected for“unblocking orifices,”which relieves the symptoms.This acupuncture method features deep needling,which aligns with modern swallowing function anatomy.The method can improve the function of poststroke dysphagia by enhancing cerebral blood supply and metabolism and promoting neural functional remodeling.

The Ancient Wellspring and the Source of the Future： The Creation of New Poetry and the New Man in Lu Xun＇s On the Power of Mara Poetry

Focusing on literary tradition and innovation, this paper examines Lu Xun＇s poetics as represented in his early treatise On the Power of Mara Poetry （Moluo shi li shuo）. As a leading writer and thinker deeply engaged in the dramatic social and cultural transformations taking place in early twentieth- century China, Lu Xun was very concerned about how to build up the New Man and new society via new literature. Advocating Maratic poets who are full of the spirit of revolt and nonconformity, Lu Xun endeavored to disturb and reinvigorate Chinese minds by bringing in foreign dynamics and energies based upon modem individualism and humanism. At the same time, Lu Xun insisted that, while moving toward a bright future, people should constantly consider China＇s prosperous past. For Lu Xun, tradition was still of great relevance in creating and nurturing new poetry, new men, and a new society. To simply lump Lu Xun together with pure anti-traditionalists is problematic. Lu Xun is commonly seen as an iconoclastic pioneer in modem China; however, I argue that Lu Xun demonstrated a dialectical reflection on the relationship between tradition and modernity. Actually, Lu Xun envisioned a process by which, galvanized by imported Maratic spirit, selected cultural legacies would undergo modem reconfiguration and revitalization.
