English Translation of Political Terminologies with Chinese Characteristics:A Case Study of the 20th CPC National Congress Report

The philosophies, thoughts, strategies, and measures introduced in the 20th National Congress report of the Communist Party of China chart the course for the nation’s future development. The political terminologies with Chinese characteristics presented in the report form a crucial part of China’s distinct political development model, while also presenting considerable challenges for translation. Drawing on a Chinese-English parallel corpus of political terminologies from the 20th Congress report, this study explores the translation of these terms with a focus on four-character patterns, numerical abbreviations, and idiomatic expressions. The goal is to develop effective translation strategies and contribute to research on translating political terminologies with Chinese characteristics.

Speech at the Symposium on Study and Implementation of the Spirit of the 19^(th) CPC National Congress at the China Society for Human Rights Studies

Following the successful conclusion of the 19thCommunist Party of China National Congress,there has been a nationwide upsurge in the study and implementation of the spirit of the Congress.It was therefore both necessary and timely for the China Society for Human Rights Studies to organize a symposium on the study and implementation of the spirit of the Congress.I’d like to express my understanding of the study and implementation of the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress from three aspects:

On November 8, 2022, the symposium on “Deeply Studying and Implementing the Spirit of the 20thCPC National Congress and Adhering to the Chinese Path of Human Rights Development” was held by the China Society for Human Rights Studies in Beijing. Focusing on “the leadership of the CPC and human rights development”, “adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and the needs of our times and human rights theories in contemporary China”, “the Chinese path to modernization and the new form of human rights civilization”, “Chinese human rights solutions and global human rights governance”, “making a better China’s story of advancing human rights and constructing human rights discourse system”, and other topics, the participants reached broad consensus after discussion, and the symposium achieved fruitful results.

Interpretation of the Report of the 18th CPC Congress:To Respect and Protect Human Rights

In the crucial period of building a moderately prosperous soci- ety and deepening reform and opening up, and of accelerat-ing the transformation of economic development, the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, which was held in November 2012, made comprehensive arrange- ments for the undertakings of both the Party and the State, further clari- fied the goals and grand blueprint for future development in the next period, and left an important and far- reaching impact on the development of our country＇s human rights cause. This paper intends to give a theo- retical interpretation of the part of the Report regarding ＂to respect and pro- tect human rights.＂
