Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)has been perceived as a malignancy that is resistant to systemic chemotherapy for long periods of time.Despite initial efforts that were supported by the NCI to help elucidate any potentia...Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)has been perceived as a malignancy that is resistant to systemic chemotherapy for long periods of time.Despite initial efforts that were supported by the NCI to help elucidate any potential role for systemic doxorubicin,no standard of care was approved and acknowledged for HCC until the advent of sorafenib.Sorafenib,a multi-kinase inhibitor with an anti-angiogenic effect,was evaluated in a large phase III clinical trial versus placebo and showed a clear improvement of survival in its favor,which helped establish it as a standard of care.This was back in 2007,and since then we lingered in a long hiatus of several genuine attempts to test potentially more powerful anti-angiogenics to no avail.In 2017,things changed markedly with 4 clinical trials showing improvements in survival or non-inferiority outcome.In the first line setting,lenvatinib,another multi-kinase inhibitor with anti-angiogenic and anti-FGF activity showed non-inferiority versus sorafenib and is now FDA approved.In the second line setting,regorafenib.another multikinase inhibitor with ample similarity to sorafenib but some differences showed improvement in survival after progression on sorafenib when tested against placebo.Cabozantinib,another multi-kinase inhibitor with anti-c-met activity also showed an improvement in survival versus placebo,while ramicirumab also showed an improvement in survival versus placebo in the same setting yet only for patients with elevated alpha fetoprotein(AFP).The advent of checkpoint inhibitors has already led to the approval of anti-PD-1 nivolumab in the second line setting based on a response rate of 15%-20%despite the lack of survival data.Ongoing studies are now evaluating the combination of different checkpoint inhibitors and also the combination of checkpoint inhibitors plus multikinase inhibitors.This incredible increase in the number of targeted therapies and checkpoint inhibitors from 1 to 6 cannot go unnoticed,adding to the already reported positive outcome data that led to the approval of FOLFOX as a first line therapy in China.The most crucial challenge now is choosing a therapy based on the ample amount of positive outcome data.This is expected to be driven by the basis of biology that would help pick one therapy versus the other.Other important variables are ethnicity and etiology.We still have yet to understand the genetic and biological differences,if any.展开更多

Where, any procedures of conservation of the building must be outrun by a perfect diagnosis according to the international conventions. Chemical, physical, mechanical properties and structural status are extremely important to give information about the current condition of Qanibay al-Rammah madrasa, which situated within Saladin square in Historic Cairo. This building has been affected by several deterioration factors since the construction and still suffering damage factors at the moment, which led to the occurrence of several damage aspects to the building, such as fissures in architectural elements, granular disintegration, loss of stone material, peeling of limestone surface, splitting in building material, the efflorescence of salts, pitting in limestone surface, black spots in stone surface, hard black crust, etc. The aim of this study is evaluation of the condition of Qanibay al-Rammah madrasa by two methods, firstly by different scientific techniques such as X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), EDX analytical methods, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Polarizing Light Microscopy (PLM), and Stereo Microscopy, and secondly by Numerical analysis based on 3D finite elements analysis to determine the critical places of the building. The followed methodology in this study allowed us to the assessment of the current status of the building by various scientific techniques to determine the real causes of damage, which must be taken into account during the intervention procedures.展开更多

Compared with developed countries in America and Europe, China has relatively rich primate resources and has continually aimed to develop NHPs resources. Currently, China is a leading producer and a major supplier of NHPs on the international market. However, there are some deficiencies in feeding and management that have hampered China's growth in NHP research and materials. Nonetheless, China has recently established a number of primate animal models for human diseases and achieved marked scientific progress on infectious diseases, cardiovascular diseases, endocrine diseases, reproductive diseases, neurological diseases, and ophthalmic diseases, etc. Advances in these fields via NHP models will undoubtedly further promote the development of China's life sciences and pharmaceutical industry, and enhance China's position as a leader in NHP research.
