Keep to the Original Aspiration to Achieve Greater Success: New Year Message for 2017

Spring is a time of renewal and growth.In the springtime of 2017,I would like to extend,on behalf of the Chinese Association for International Understanding(CAFIU),our New Year message to Chinese and overseas readers,as well as people from all walks of life who have been supportive to the work and development of CAFIU.

在英国东印度公司资助下,马礼逊与德庇士于1815年在广州出版Translations from the Original Chinese,with Notes(《中文英译(附释文)》),其中第1-38页是马礼逊译自《京报》的内容,包括嘉庆帝《遇变罪己诏》诏书和上谕7则、大臣奏折2通,成为马礼逊最早出版的《京报》译介文本和在华外国人系统翻译《京报》的开山之作。本文基于《中文英译(附释文)》中《京报》翻译文本的中英文对照分析其翻译规律,进而说明马礼逊《京报》翻译成果《中文英译(附释文)》在《京报》外译活动中的源头地位与流传价值。

The original mechanism of vari-toned song production in mingming cicada(Oncotympana maculaticollis Motsch)

In this paper, the original process of vari-toned song in the Mmgming cicada is revealed, and the brand-new recognition for studies of the song mechanism in cicadas is opened up. Each vari-toned syllable 'Weiying' is composed of 'Wei' with the basic sound (BS) as the dominant tone and 'ying' with the upper partials (UP2) as the dominant tone, and the upper partials (UP1) is a sound accompaniment of low intensity.The BS, UP1 and UP2 are produced by vibrations of the long ribs LR2,3 and LR1 in sounding membrane driven, separately, by two kinds of the twich in sounding muscle, 'Wei' and 'ying' are separately produced by the prin-subordinate vibrations of LR2,3 -LR1 and LR1-LR2,3. The LR1 and LR2,3 are analogous to a string tensioned two ends and a beam hinged two ends with a load in the middle respectively. Obtained the acoustic properties of sounding vibration are not only suited to the structural characteristics of LR1, 2, 3 but also consist basically with the acoustic properties of song.

Bellini’s Norma and the Challenge of Regieoper

Despite the universal messages of Bellini’s Norma,the attempts at translating and adapting it to a modern context in the revisionist spirit of Regieoper(the director’s opera)encounter serious difficulties,as indicated by recent productions.The present paper focuses on these difficulties by examining in detail what appear to be the most challenging,innovative and thought-provoking among those productions which,despite remarkable merits,suffer from acute shortcomings:inter alia certain incompatibilities with the libretto,cultural dissonances,and problems of inner-coherence and verisimilitude.The detailed analysis of specific productions is followed by a general discussion(through a comparative approach)of Norma’s adaptability to Regieoper,which is shown to be extremely difficult,among other reasons because the terms of reference to the dimensions of the historical context(and the inherent mores)in its libretto are by far less flexible than those of other operas.Norma’s universal messages and its dualities of“foreign”versus“familiar,”with their vast semantic ambit,would seem to be better understood by meticulously delving into the subtleties of the text(and subtext)of Romani’s sophisticated libretto.Inner-coherence and compatibility with the libretto are essential for any attempt at creating an appropriate analogy running parallel to the original narrative.A fully convincing production of Norma in a modernizing spirit,if at all possible,remains an artistic challenge.

Criticism Thinking on Original and Translated Texts

This paper analyzes the application of critical thinking in the original text and translation by listing the cases. Make people realize the importance of using critical thinking in translation process and the importance of critical thinking. The word critical is derived from the Greek word "kritikos", which expresses awareness, insight, and judgment. The critical thinking, as we know it in the modern sense, comes from the reflective thinking that Dewey once proposed: bold questioning, cautious assertion. Whether it is the original or the translated text, the translator should be critical at the moment when he/she comes into contact with the article,so as to make a good translation.

Estimating Tropical Cyclone Precipitation from Station Observations

In this paper, an objective technique for estimating the tropical cyclone （TC） precipitation from station observations is proposed. Based on a comparison between the Original Objective Method （OOM） and the Expert Subjective Method （ESM）, the Objective Synoptic Analysis Technique （OSAT） for partitioning TC precipitation was developed by analyzing the western North Pacific （WNP） TC historical track and the daily precipitation datasets. Being an objective way of the ESM, OSAT overcomes the main problems in OOM, by changing two fixed parameters in OOM, the thresholds for the distance of the absolute TC precipitation （D0） and the TC size （D1）, into variable parameters.Case verification for OSAT was also carried out by applying CMORPH （Climate Prediction Center MORPHing technique） daily precipitation measurements, which is NOAA＇s combined satellite precipitation measurement system. This indicates that OSAT is capable of distinguishing simultaneous TC precipitation rain-belts from those associated with different TCs or with middle-latitude weather systems.

Leonardo 500 Years: Digital Experiences in Milan, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo

The object of this study is the impact of technology in four exhibitions held to celebrate the 500 years of the death of Leonardo da Vinci on 2019.Two exhibitions took place in Milan,Italy,one took place in Rio de Janeiro,Brazil and the last one took place in São Paulo,also in Brazil.This study aims to explore the empirical evidences found during the field research in three of the four exhibitions object of this study(one of the exhibitions could not be observed to the museum being closed as a result of the pandemic caused by the coronavirus).This study is based on references and recent secondary researches that analyzed the aspects of quantity and quality in exhibitions sites,and also on other data available on websites and in the media.This study aims to question the importance of the original work in digital exhibitions and a possibly a further extension on the word“experience”not specifically through technological immersion.Lastly,these subjects are revisited once we look at the museums amid the world pandemic.

In the process of folk custom development, ecological transformation is a normal phenomenon.This article will study the minority folk dance ecology transformation based on the perspective of social historical development.The author will discuss the native pattern and variable pattern for the development of the minority folk dance and analyze the positive influence and negative influence on minority dance at this stage. To address the problems in the development, the author puts forward some countermeasures and feasible suggestions for its future development.
