Such universality is due to the development of modern rationality, to establish a relationship between the intrinsic theoretical dimensions (scientific) and practical dimensions (ethical), originated that are present in the own array of knowledge. This descriptive cross-sectional study, aims to identify the values of the ethical dimension and meaning of life defended by the college students of the Universities of Madeira, Portugal and Fortaleza, Brazil. The sample consists of 605 University students (Madeira = 225 and Fortaleza = 380), with an average age of 21 years and a standard deviation of 2. We used the questionnaire on values (adapted from the European Values Survey). Most of the young people referred to have a religion (60% wood and 78.4% stronghold), being the most Catholic, however, present in your frequency disinterest and, yet, in Brazil there is a greater diversity of religions. Supporting the intervention of religious institutions in situations of everyday life is accepted mostly by Brazilians, with the exception of politics (35.5%). On the other hand, the university students of the University of Madeira understand that Religious Institutions should only give their opinion on racial discrimination (76.6%). Believe in God (90.8% and 55.1% Stronghold) and Soul (80.3% and 66.4% Stronghold) are beliefs more referred to by college students. These results are intended to contribute in the field of research on ethical values and meaning of life in young people. This study contributes to future comparative research among university students and to developing strategic programs in education and health, increasing the success and excellence in the formation of a full citizenship, preventing the fanaticisms and the social discrimination that today devastate the collective globally.展开更多

Sense and reference constitute the personal images of any given words.Three sources of meaning are elaborated: the dictionary sense, the personal images of any given words, and the dynamic context.A combination of traditional semantic meaning and dynamic pragmatic meaning analysis is suggested through examining the meaning derivation process in the cases of the use of referring expressions in definite, indefinite descriptions, and incomplete sentences.展开更多

Under the conditions of an arbitrary initial value, we prove that the system exists unique positive solution, and give the sufficient conditions caused by random environmental factors leading to the extinction of infectious diseases. Moreover, we verify the conditions for the persistence of infectious diseases in the mean sense. Finally, we provide the biology interpretation and some strategies to control the infectious diseases.展开更多

It is commonly believed that lifestyle quality must be improved and main- tained for optimum health. A cross-sectional survey of middle-aged workers was performed to examine the relationship between a sense of coherence (SOC) and health status. The study further aimed to determine the quality of life necessary to maintain physical and psychologi- cal health. An anonymous online survey was conducted with a panel of respondents regis- tered with an Internet research service. The survey items addressed SOC and awareness of lifestyle habits, specifically lifestyle factors of self-rated health, level of satisfaction, and level of stress. Responses were obtained from 412 women and 206 men. The approximately equal high and low SOC results indicated that self- rated health and level of satisfaction were signi- ficantly higher in both sexes with a high SOC, and such participants also experienced signifi- cantly lower levels of daily stress. With regard to the association between lifestyle factors and health, women with a high SOC tended to have shorter commutes, and a higher percentage ate breakfast daily compared with women with a low SOC. Men with a high SOC worked significantly longer hours, and a higher percentage were ei- ther married or resided with family. No sex dif- ferences in SOC were observed for health be- havior in daily life, and 50% of both women and men reported positive health behavior. Health behavior differed, however, according to SOC and sex. These findings suggest that health pre- servation in daily life of middle-aged worker’s women is possible through sustaining and en- hancing展开更多

文摘AIM:To investigate the relationship between sense of coherence, psychological distress and health related quality of life in inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).METHODS:This cross-sectional study enrolled a consecutive sample of 147 IBD(aged 45.1 ± 14.1 years; 57.1% female) patients recruited from a tertiary gastroenterology service.Sixty-four participants met diagnostic criteria for Crohn's disease, while eightythree patients had ulcerative colitis.Socio-demographic data(education, age, race, gender, gross monthly income and marital status),disease-related variables(illness activity, relapse rate in past 2 years, history of surgery and time since diagnosis),sense of coherence(Antonovsky's SOC scale),psychological distress symptoms(Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale) and health-related quality of life(HRQo L; WHOQOLBref) were assessed.Hierarchical multiple regression analyses were performed to identify factors that are independently associated with psychological distress and HRQo L in patients with IBD and to provide indications for possible moderating or mediating effects. In addition, formal moderation and mediation analyses(Sobel tests) were performed to confirm potential moderators/mediators of the relationship between SOC,psychological distress symptoms and HRQoL.RESULTS:Lower SOC scores(std beta=-0.504; P < 0.001),female gender(std beta = 0.176; P = 0.021) and White race(std beta = 0.164; P = 0.033) were independently associated with higher levels of depressive symptoms, while lower levels of SOC(std beta =-0.438; P < 0.001) and higher relapse rate(std beta = 0.161; P = 0.033) were independently associated with more severe anxiety symptoms.A significant interaction between time since diagnosis and SOC was found with regard to the severity of depressive or anxiety symptoms,as the interaction term(time since diagnosis X SOC) had beta coefficients of-0.191(P = 0.009) and-0.172(P = 0.026),respectively.Lower levels of anxiety symptoms(std beta =-0.369; P < 0.001),higher levels of SOC(std beta = 0.231; P = 0.016) and non-White race(std beta =-0.229; P = 0.006),i.e.,mixed-race,which represented the reference category, were independently associated with higher levels of overall HRQoL.Anxiety symptoms were the most potent independent correlate of most aspects of HRQoL.In addition, anxiety mediated the association between SOC and satisfaction with health,as well as its relationship with physical, mental, and social relations HRQo L.Depressive symptoms also mediated the association between SOC and mental HRQoL.CONCLUSION:Our data indicated that SOC is an important construct,as it influences psychological distress and has significant albeit indirect effects on several HRQoL domains in IBD.
文摘The study aims to examine the role of mastery and self-esteem as a potential mediator of the relationship of meaning in life and well-being among older Chinese stroke survivors. A cross-sectional study was conducted in 214 community-dwelling older stroke survivors (128 men and 86 women), ranging from 60 years to 88 years old. The meaning in life, mastery, self-esteem and subjective well-being were measured. The results indicated that: 1) The meaning in life and subjective well-being of stroke survivors were significantly positive correlated;2) Mastery and self-esteem played partial mediating roles between existential vacuum and subjective well-being;Self-esteem played full a mediating role between suffer acceptance and subjective well-being;Mastery played a full mediating role between life control and subjective well-being;Mastery played a partial mediating role between death acceptance and subjective well-being;Self-esteem also played a partial mediating role between mastery and subjective well-being.
文摘In this paper, we investigate the dynamic properties of an SIR epidemic model with saturated growth rate. Under the conditions of an arbitrary initial value, we prove that the system exists unique positive solution, and give the sufficient conditions caused by random environmental factors leading to the extinction of infectious diseases. Moreover, we verify the conditions for the persistence of infectious diseases in the mean sense. Finally, we provide the biology interpretation and some strategies to control the infectious diseases.
文摘Metabolic syndrome has recently become a concern in Japan. These findings suggest that health pre- servation in daily life of middle-aged worker’s women is possible through sustaining and en- hancing
文摘We study the high order equilibrium distributions of a counting random variable. Properties such as moments, the probability generating function, the stop--loss transform and the mean residual lifetime, are derived. Expressions are obtained for higher order equilibrium distribution functions under mixtures and convolutions of a counting distribution. Recursive formulas for higher order equilibrium distribution functions of the (a,b,0) -family of distributions are given.

文摘Flow is the experience of working full time and enjoying the flow of your life, regardless of the rewards, like a flowing stream of water.Based on the literature review, this paper discusses the role of flow in the actual rescue work, combined with the actual work of the rescue mission in the tree hole baby crisis intervention and emotional counseling and accompanying. The effect of flow intervention is positive. It can reduce the rumination of young tree hole babies and increase and enhance their sense of life meaning and subjective well-being.Since the term“Flow”is rarely used in the process of intervention, this paper also looks forward to the further application of flow intervention.
文摘Reminiscing by older adults can facilitate beneficial outcomes through the preparation for the end of life, the cohesiveness of life narratives, and creation of life meanings.Given this, and the historical challenges of communication between generations, the objective of this study was two-fold:(1)to harness the beneficial role reminiscence can play in the mental health of older adults;(2)to facilitate generational learning by documenting and thematically analyzing the experiences and knowledge of older adults. We hypothesized that our interviews, which had the stated goal of helping younger people navigate life challenges, would not only act as catalyst for the participants to reminisce but also create a corpus of knowledge which could be later distilled into accessible“pearls of wisdom”.The interviews were conducted in Israel with 102 participants who were between 60 and 93 years of age with six questions constructed to promote further commentary.Through the interviews we were successful in producing a large representation of the older adults’experiences and what they believed would be beneficial for the younger generation.Due to the potential benefits for participants and larger communities we recommend this approach be adopted for future studies.
文摘While portraying the lines of the foreseen new world-order,the author agrees to be what G.B.Shaw called the“unreasonable man”who tries to bring progress to the world. This work reviews some of the Capitalism’s main ideas and claims that many of them are irrelevant at present. It follows people’s change of mind as they wish to see Satisfaction,Pleasure, and Happiness becoming the leading elements in the search for meaning of life.As a result, the author poses some of future dilemmas:Who should gain from future activities, the traditional capital owners,or,maybe, the growing number of individuals who contribute competence, energy, and devotion to the new type of advanced high-tech industries? For resolving this dilemma, the essay claims that in the future meaning of life will rest more on talents feelings and emotions rather than on money or wealth. This fact must seriously be considered by the decision makers. For promoting its idea, the essay provides some concrete guidelines for establishing an advanced framework for the coming years. The author also believes that by increasing the stakeholder’s share in the firm’s revenues, the nation’s economy and society at all, will grow and prosper.
