Alzheimer's disease(AD)is a clinically common degenerative disease of the central nervous system with a complex pathogenesis, which seriously endangers the physical and mental health of the elderly. In recent years,a large number of studies have shown that the intestinal flora can regulate the central nervous system through the brain-gut axis, thereby participating in the occurrence and development of AD.AD belongs to the category of"dementia"and"forgetfulness"in traditional Chinese medicine. It is caused by internal injury of seven emotions, old age and chronic illness, which can cause insufficient blood, deficiency of kidney essence, and blockage of phlegm and blood. To use, treat more from the heart, liver and kidney. We believe that phlegm turbidity blocking the orifice is the key to the pathogenesis of AD.It should be treated from the spleen, and according to the characteristics of the pathogenesis, the method of warming the spleen and dredging the collaterals and resuscitation is proposed to prevent AD.This article takes the intestinal flora as the starting point to discuss the research progress of treating AD from the spleen. 展开更多

The spleen and stomach are the foundation of acquired constitution, and the source of qi and blood production. Therefore, harmonizing the spleen and stomach is of great importance in treatment of diseases. In this paper, based on GAO's academic ideas of acupuncture and moxibustion, the different rules of harmonizing the spleen and stomach for internal miscellaneous diseases and carefully supplementing spleen and stomach for externally-contracted diseases were elaborated by starting with the acupoint selection prescriptions and harmonizing the spleen and stomach. In addition, time acupuncture and pattern differentiation moxibustion application and other treatment characteristics were put forward. The experience of professor GAO Yu-chun in acupuncture manipulation of "harmonizing the spleen and stomach" was summarized in detail from five aspects for learning and reference. 展开更多

Objective: To compare the therapeutic efficacy between warm needling moxibustion and electroacupuncture (EA) in the treatment of simple obesity due to yang deficiency of the spleen and kidney. Methods: Seventy patients with simple obesity due to yang deficiency of the spleen and kidney were randomly divided into a warm needling moxibustion group and an EA group, with 35 subjects in each group. Same major acupoints were selected for the two groups, including Shuifen (CV 9), Guanyuan (CV 4), Daheng (SP 15), Shuidao (ST 28), Shousanli (LI 10), Zusanli (ST 36), Sanyinjiao (SP 6) and Taixi (KI 3). The warm needling moxibustion group received warm needling moxibustion, while the EA group received EA treatment. The interventions were performed once every other day, with 15 treatments as one course. The therapeutic efficacy, body weight and body mass index (BMI) were then observed and compared. Results: The total effective rate in the warm needling moxibustion group was 85.7% versus 77.1% in the EA group, and the between-group difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The warm needling moxibustion was remarkably superior to the EA in weight loss and lowering BMI, both with statistical significance (P<0.05, P<0.01). At the three-month follow-up, the body weight and BMI further decreased in the warm needling moxibustion group (both P<0.05), and the levels were lower than those in the EA group (P<0.05, P<0.01). Conclusion: Warm needling moxibustion can produce reliable and consistent efficacy in the treatment of simple obesity due to yang deficiency of the spleen and kidney. Compared with EA, warm needling moxibustion shows advantage in both short-term and long-term efficacies, and thus is worth promotion in clinical practice. 展开更多

In the present paper, the therapeutic effect of spleen- stomach- reinforcing moxibustion for treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is observed and its underlying mechanisms on immunity are analyzed. A total of 72 IBS patients are randomly divided into moxibustion group (n= 46) and acupuncture group (control group, n = 26). Acu-points used are Zhongwan (CV 12), Qihai (CV 6) and Zusanli (ST 36), etc. Serum IgG, IgA and IgM contents, blood T-lympocytes (T3+, T4+, T8+) counts, T4+ /T8+, cancer embryonic antigen (CEA) content, serum IL-2 and slL-2R contents are assayed for evaluating changes of the immunocompetence. After two courses of treatment (24 sessions), results show that in moxibustion group, 25 cases (54.35%) are cured, 17 experience improvement in clinical symptoms and 4 have no apparent changes, with an effective rate of 91.30% ; in control group, 8 cases (30. 78%) are cured, 12 experience improvement and 6 have no marked improvement, with an effective rate of 76.92% . The therapeutic effect of moxibustion is significantly superior to that of acupuncture (P<0.01). In addition, moxibustion can effectively rectify abnormal immune function and stabilize human's immunity. This research provides a reliable experimental basis for clinical application of 'principal prescription of moxibustion for reinforcing the spleen and stomach'. 展开更多

Radiological examinations revealed multifocal tumoral lesions in the spleen. The patient underwent splenectomy for differential diagnosis and treatment. During the operation, in addition to the splenic masses, there were also multiple milimetric purpuric-like lesions on the colonic serosal surfaces adjacent to the splenic hilus. One of them was excised. Histologic examination showed hemangiopericytoma of the spleen and cavernous hemangioma of the adjacent colon. This is the first report showing the close association of these two distinct lesions with vascular origin in the literature. Despite not having any apparent evidence, there may be a sequential relationship between the hemangiopericytoma of the spleen and cavernous hemangiomas. 展开更多

Cancer therapeutic nanovaccines are ideal tools to inhibit tumor growth and provide the body with continuous protecting immune surveillance. However, the conventional subcutaneous(SC)vaccination normally induces limited anti-tumor immune responses with low therapeutic efficacy.Herein,we devised clay-based nanovaccines and directly delivered them to the spleen via intravenous(IV)injection to induce the stronger anti-tumor immunity with higher efficacy for tumor prevention and treatment. The clay,i.e.,layered double hydroxide(LDH)was prepared as nanoadjuvant with the average size from 77 to 285 nm and co-loaded with the model antigen ovalbumin(OVA)and bioadjuvant CpG to form CpG/OVA-LDH(CO-LDH)nanovaccines.We found that CO-LDH-215(the size of LDH was 215 nm)promoted dendritic cells to present the most antigen, and moreover showed the highest spleen enrichment(~1.67%of CO-LDH-215 enriched in the spleen at 24 h post IV injection). The in vivo immunologic data showed that CO-LDH-215 induced the most potent anti-tumor immune responses and completely prevented the growth of E.G7-OVA tumor in the mouse model.Furthermore,IV injected CO-LDH-215 nanovaccine more effectively delayed tumor growth than that SC injected, largely due to the direct and quick delivery of more nanovaccines to the spleen. This study demonstrates that the therapeutic efficacy of nanovaccines can be greatly enhanced by targeted delivery of nanovaccines to the spleen via the proper vaccination route. 展开更多

Objective To compare the difference in the therapeutic effects on diarrhea- type irritable bowel syndrome (D-IBS) between acupuncture based on soothing the liver and strengthening the spleen and western medicine. Methods Seventy cases were randomized into an acupuncture group and a western medicine group, 35 cases in each one. In the acupuncture group, the conventional acupuncture was applied at Tianshu {天枢 ST 25), Zusanli (足三里 ST 36), Shangjuxu {上巨虚 ST 37), Sanyinjiao (三阴交 SP 6), Taichong (太冲 LR 3) and so on. Electric stimulation was supplemented at bilateral ST 25. The treatment was given once a day, 3-4 treatments in a week. In the western medicine group, pinaverium bromide (dicetel) was prescribed for oral administration, 50 mg each time, three times a day. Four weeks made one session in the two groups. Separately, before treatment and after 1 session treatment, the integral of clinical symptom and the score in the scale of the quality of life measure for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-Q OL) were observed for the patients in the two groups. The efficacy and recurrence rate were assessed in the two groups. Results The symptom integral and IBS-QOL score in the two groups were improved significantly after treatment Call P〈0.01), and the improvements in the acupuncture group were superior to that in the western medicine group (P〈0.01). The effective rate was 94.3% {33/35) in the acupuncture group, which was superior to 77.1% (27/35) in the western medicine group (P〈0.01). In 3 months, the recurrence rate was 36.4% (12/33) in the acupuncture group, which was lower apparently than 72.0% (18/25) in the western medicine group (P〈O.01). Conclusion Acupuncture therapy based on soothing the liver and strengthening the spleen achieves the superior efficacy on D-IBS as compared with western medication, pinaverium bromide. This therapy improves apparently the quality of life of the patients and is lower in recurrence rate. 展开更多

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of tonifying liver and kidney-essence herbs on expression of a nerve regeneration inhibitor, Nogo for neuron A (No- go-A), and its associated signaling molecule, low-af- finity neurotrophin receptor p75 (p75TR), in rats with cerebral ischemic stroke (CIS), with the aim of exploring the possible mechanism of tonifying liver and kidney-essence herbs in recovery following in- jury to the central nervous system. METHODS: A cerebral ischemic stroke model in SD rats was established with the suture-occlusion method. Successful model rats were divided into placebo and herb groups at random; sham-operat- ed and control groups were set up simultaneously. Each of these groups was divided into six sub- groups at random. Expression of Nogo-A and p75TR was evaluated with immunofluorescence microsco- py at days 3, and weeks1, 2, 3, 4 and 8 after adminis- tration. RESULTS: Tonifying liver and kidney-essence herbs suppressed the expression of Nogo-A and p75T (P〈0.05 and P〈0.01, respectively). CONCLUSION: Suppressing the expression of No- go-A and p75NTR is possibly one of the mechanisms underlying the ability of tonifying liver and kid- ney-essence herbs to promote recovery of the in- jured central nervous system. 展开更多
