A right cone of a unit base and unit height has been selected to represent protein sequences on its surface. The twenty amino acids have been represented by 20 circles and all protein's residues have been represented by n lines on the cone's surface. All the spots which represent the protein's residues have been shown in the cone's top view. The spatial median of all the spots is used as a new descriptor of any protein sequence. This approach was applied on two short segments of protein of yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The examination of the similarities/dissimilarities for the eight ND5 proteins and the six β-globin proteins illustrate the utility of our approach. A linear correlation and significance analysis have been provided to compare our results and the percentage sequence alignment identity.展开更多

Methods: The median-effect principle and MTT method were used in the quantitative analysis of effects of the two drugs. Results: Cytotoxic activity of the individual drugs enhanced as drug concentration increased. As fa=0.41, a CI equal to 1 indicated additivity; fa<0.41, a CI less than 1 indicated synergy; and fa>0.41, a CI greater than 1 indicated antagonism. The sequence of administration did not influence the cytotoxic activity of the combined antitumor drugs. The ratio of drug concentration was a factor that can influence the killing effect. Conclusion: The combined drugs interaction (CI<1) was synergistic at lower concentration and antagonistic at higher concentration. The ratio of drug concentration is a factor that can influence the killing effect.展开更多

The results showed that the three indicators of PM10 and PM2.5 except for the mass concentration correlated with relative humidity,of which the correlation between the mass median particle diameter and relative humidity was the best. The correlation coefficient R^2 between the mass median particle diameter of PM10( PM2.5) and relative humidity was up to 0. 943( 0. 832). Therefore, relative humidity and pressure are key impact factors of indicators of particles.展开更多

The car and SUV speed data were combined in the analysis as they were found to be normally distributed and not significantly different. Independent parameters representing geometric features and speed at the preceding section were logically selected in stepwise regression analyses to develop the models. Speeds at various locations were found to be dependent on some combinations of curve length, curvature and speed in the immediately preceding section of the highway. Curve length had a significant effect on the speed at locations 50 m prior to PC, PC and MC. The effect of curvature on speed was observed only at MC. The curve geometry did not have a significant effect on speed from PT onwards. The speed at 50 m prior to PC and curvature is the most significant parameter that affects the speed at PC and MC, respectively. Before entering a horizontal curve, drivers possibly perceive the curve based on its length. Longer curve encourages drivers to maintain higher speed in the preceding tangent section. Further, drivers start experiencing the effect of curvature only after entering the curve and adjust speed accordingly. Practitioners can use these findings in designing consistent horizontal curve for vehicle speed harmony.展开更多
