Numerical Study and Optimization of CZTS-Based Thin-Film Solar Cell Structure with Different Novel Buffer-Layer Materials Using SCAPS-1D Software

This study explored the performances of CZTS-based thin-film solar cell with three novel buffer layer materials ZnS, CdS, and CdZnS, as well as with variation in thickness of buffer and absorber-layer, doping concentrations of absorber-layer material and operating temperature. Our aims focused to identify the most optimal thin-film solar cell structure that offers high efficiency and lower toxicity which are desirable for sustainable and eco-friendly energy sources globally. SCAPS-1D, widely used software for modeling and simulating solar cells, has been used and solar cell fundamental performance parameters such as open-circuited voltage (), short-circuited current density (), fill-factor() and efficiency() have been optimized in this study. Based on our simulation results, it was found that CZTS solar cell with Cd<sub>0.4</sub>Zn<sub>0.6</sub>S as buffer-layer offers the most optimal combination of high efficiency and lower toxicity in comparison to other structure investigated in our study. Although the efficiency of Cd<sub>0.4</sub>Zn<sub>0.6</sub>S, ZnS and CdS are comparable, Cd<sub>0.4</sub>Zn<sub>0.6</sub>S is preferable to use as buffer-layer for its non-toxic property. In addition, evaluation of performance as a function of buffer-layer thickness for Cd<sub>0.4</sub>Zn<sub>0.6</sub>S, ZnS and CdS showed that optimum buffer-layer thickness for Cd<sub>0.4</sub>Zn<sub>0.6</sub>S was in the range from 50 to 150nm while ZnS offered only 50 – 75 nm. Furthermore, the temperature dependence performance parameters evaluation revealed that it is better to operate solar cell at temperature 290K for stable operation with optimum performances. This study would provide valuable insights into design and optimization of nanotechnology-based solar energy technology for minimizing global energy crisis and developing eco-friendly energy sources sustainable and simultaneously. 展开更多

In this study we are reporting annealing induced optical properties of bismuth ferrite (BiFeO3) thin films deposited on glass substrate via spin coating at 5000 rpm. The structural, optical and surface morphology of BiFeO3 (BFO) thin films have been studied via X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), Optical absorption (UV-Vis) and Photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. XRD spectra confirm annealing induced phase formation of BiFeO3 possessing a rhombohedral R3c structure. The films are dense and without cracks, although the presence of porosity in BFO/glass was observed. Moreover, optical absorption spectra indicate annealing induced effect on the energy band structure in comparison to pristine BiFeO3. It is observed that annealing effect shows an intense shift in the UV-Vis spectra as diffuse absorption together with the variation in the optical band gap. The evaluated optical band gap values are approximately equal to the bulk band gap value of BiFeO3. 展开更多

This paper discusses the feasibility of thin-shell wormholes in spacetimes of embedding class one admitting a one-parameter group of conformal motions. It is shown that the surface energy density σis positive, while the surface pressure is negative, resulting in , thereby signaling a violation of the null energy condition, a necessary condition for holding a wormhole open. For a Morris-Thorne wormhole, matter that violates the null energy condition is referred to as “exotic”. For the thin-shell wormholes in this paper, however, the violation has a physical explanation since it is a direct consequence of the embedding theory in conjunction with the assumption of conformal symmetry. These properties avoid the need to hypothesize the existence of the highly problematical exotic matter. 展开更多

Drying is a complex operation that demands much energy and time. Drying is essentially important for preservation of ginger rhizome. Drying of ginger was modeled, and then the effective diffusion coefficient and activation energy were determined. For this purpose, the experiments were done at six levels of varied temperatures: 10°C, 20°C, 30°C, 40°C, 50°C and 60°C. The values of effective diffusion coefficients obtained in this work for the variously treated ginger rhizomes closely agreed with the average effective diffusion coefficients of other notable authors who determined the drying kinetics and convective heat transfer coefficients of ginger slices. 展开更多

We report the performances of a chalcopyrite Cu(In, Ga)Se<sub>2 </sub>CIGS-based thin-film solar cell with a newly employed high conductive n-Si layer. The data analysis was performed with the help of the 1D-Solar Cell Capacitance Simulator (1D-SCAPS) software program. The new device structure is based on the CIGS layer as the absorber layer, n-Si as the high conductive layer, i-In<sub>2</sub>S<sub>3</sub>, and i-ZnO as the buffer and window layers, respectively. The optimum CIGS bandgap was determined first and used to simulate and analyze the cell performance throughout the experiment. This analysis revealed that the absorber layer’s optimum bandgap value has to be 1.4 eV to achieve maximum efficiency of 22.57%. Subsequently, output solar cell parameters were analyzed as a function of CIGS layer thickness, defect density, and the operating temperature with an optimized n-Si layer. The newly modeled device has a p-CIGS/n-Si/In<sub>2</sub>S<sub>3</sub>/Al-ZnO structure. The main objective was to improve the overall cell performance while optimizing the thickness of absorber layers, defect density, bandgap, and operating temperature with the newly employed optimized n-Si layer. The increase of absorber layer thickness from 0.2 - 2 µm showed an upward trend in the cell’s performance, while the increase of defect density and operating temperature showed a downward trend in solar cell performance. This study illustrates that the proposed cell structure shows higher cell performances and can be fabricated on the lab-scale and industrial levels. 展开更多

The X-ray diffraction (XRD) data revealed the orientation and the composition of the thin film. The surface morphology was studied by scanning electron microscope (SEM). While raising the annealing temperatures from 300˚C to 900˚C, the emission was observed from AlN: Eu under excitation of 260 nm excitation. The photoluminescence (PL) was integrated over the visible light wavelength shifted from the blue to the red zone in the CIE 1931 chromaticity coordinates. The luminescence color coordination of AlN: Eu depending on the annealing temperatures guides the further study of Eu-doped nitrides manufacturing on white light emitting diode (LED) and full color LED devices. 展开更多

Three aluminium channel sections of US standard extruded dimension are mounted as cantilevers with x-axis symmetry. The flexural bending and shear that arise with applied axial torsion are each considered theoretically and numerically in terms of two longitudinal axes of loading not coincident with the shear centre. In particular, the warping displacements, stiffness and stress distributions are calculated for torsion applied to longitudinal axes passing through the section’s centroid and its web centre. The stress conversions derived from each action are superimposed to reveal a net sectional stress distribution. Therein, the influence of the axis position upon the net axial and shear stress distributions is established compared to previous results for each beam when loading is referred to a flexural axis through the shear centre. Within the net stress analysis is, it is shown how the constraint to free warping presented by the end fixing modifies the axial stress. The latter can be identified with the action of a ‘bimoment’ upon each thin-walled section. 展开更多

Aspects of the general Vlasov theory are examined separately as applied to a thin-walled channel section cantilever beam under free-end end loading. In particular, the flexural bending and shear that arise under transverse shear and axial torsional loading are each considered theoretically. These analyses involve the location of the shear centre at which transverse shear forces when applied do not produce torsion. This centre, when taken to be coincident with the centre of twist implies an equivalent reciprocal behaviour. That is, an axial torsion applied concentric with the shear centre will twist but not bend the beam. The respective bending and shear stress conversions are derived for each action applied to three aluminium alloy extruded channel sections mounted as cantilevers with a horizontal principal axis of symmetry. Bending and shear are considered more generally for other thin-walled sections when the transverse loading axes at the shear centre are not parallel to the section = s centroidal axes of principal second moments of area. The fixing at one end of the cantilever modifies the St Venant free angular twist and the free warping displacement. It is shown from the Wagner-Kappus torsion theory how the end constrained warping generates an axial stress distribution that varies with the length and across the cross-section for an axial torsion applied to the shear centre. It should be mentioned here for wider applications and validation of the Vlasov theory that attendant papers are to consider in detail bending and torsional loadings applied to other axes through each of the centroid and the web centre. Therein, both bending and twisting arise from transverse shear and axial torsion applied to each position being displaced from the shear centre. Here, the influence of the axis position upon the net axial and shear stress distributions is to be established. That is, the net axial stress from axial torsional loading is identified with the sum of axial stress due to bending and axial stress arising from constrained warping displacements at the fixing. The net shear stress distribution overlays the distributions from axial torsion and that from flexural shear under transverse loading. Investigation into the development of 3D thin shells has led to different manufacturing processes. However, 3D thin shell preforms are mostly made by weaving and knitting, but nonwoven, winding, and/or layup techniques have been reported for over a decade. Owing to the complex thin shell manufacturing processes, they are not similar to the conventional methods. The different 3D thin shell preforms can extend the opportunities for new applications in various technical fields. This study presents existing research gaps and a few potential issues to be solved regarding 3D thin shell preforms in the near future. 展开更多

The third member of Weixinnanliu in the west of the South China Sea develops thin interbeds, and the vertical extension of fracturing fractures is excessive. Once the fractures extend vertically to the upper and lower aquifers, it is easy to cause water flooding of oil wells, and the effect after fracturing is not obvious. The present work aims to explore the longitudinal extension law of fractures in Low Permeability Thin Interbed Reservoir based on the finite element calculation platform. A three-dimensional expansion model of hydraulic fractures in the target reservoir was established, and the displacement, fracturing fluid viscosity, minimum horizontal principal stress difference, vertical stress, interlayer thickness, perforation point separation were studied. The interlayer distance and other factors affect the crack propagation law. The research results show that the thin interbed fractures have three forms: T-shaped fractures, through-layer fractures, and I-shaped fractures;for the target layer, the overlying stress is relatively large, and the minimum principal stress is along the horizontal direction. Vertical cracks;the farther the perforation point is or the greater the stress difference, the smaller the thickness of the interlayer required to control the fracture height;the stress difference is 3 MPa, and the distance between the perforation points exceeds 10 m, the thickness of the interlayer is required to be ≥4 m;In order to ensure that the width of the fracture in the middle spacer does not affect the placement of the proppant, it is recommended that the displacement be controlled within 3 m<sup>3</sup>/min and the viscosity of the fracturing fluid is 150 mPa·s;in addition, the thickness of the spacer required to control the fracture height is different due to different geological parameters. In order to avoid extracting wavelets within the whole field area purposeless and to make the filtered data has preferable fidelity as well as signal-to-noise ratio, an effective structural constrained thin reservoir description method which combines spectral inversion and wide-band Ricker wavelet filtering technology has been proposed in this paper. The method given here is more credible and is suitable for the prediction of middle-deep thin reservoirs. We take LD-A structure within Bohai Bay Basin as an example to show the implement of our method. Several sets of thin sand layers which are hardly to recognize originally have been finally identified. Also, with the application of this method, a high-production thin reservoir of LD-B structure has been identified accurately, which provides credible information for subsequent fine oil exploration and development. 展开更多
