By a new psychological & physical researching method, the subjective psychological perception of human body sections affected by the same cold stimulus are studied, and with Thurstone comparative judgement the main human body sections' cold sensitivity sequences are obtained. Furthermore the physiological causes for skin sensitive difference of human body sections under clothing are suggested.展开更多

The topological part of this research is based on Thurston’s conjecture which states that any 3-dimensional manifold has a canonical decomposition into parts, each of which has a particular geometric structure. In our case, each part is either a Seifert fibered or a cusp hyperbolic space. In our construction we remove tubular neighbourhoods of singular orbits in areas of Seifert fibered manifolds using a splice operation and replace each with a cusp hyperbolic space. We thus achieve elimination of all singularities, which appear in the standard-like cosmological models, replacing them by “a torus to infinity”. From this construction, we propose an alternative manifold for cosmology with finite volume and without Friedmann-like singularities. This manifold was used for calculating coupling constants. Obtaining in this way a theoretical explanation for fundamental forces is at least in the sense of the hierarchy.展开更多

One of the most common inert dusts is volcanic ash. In order to study the reaction ofrangeland grasshoppers, Dichroplus vittigerum (Acrididae) and a katydid, t]wgilis mendosensis (Phaneropteridae), to the presence of volcanic ash in their food sources and how this reaction changed as a function of time, we conducted paired preference tests between clean leaves of their pre- ferred host plant and leaves exposed to volcanic ash of different grain size. The behavioral response was measured as the rating on the Thurstonian preference scale of leaves with ash in relation to clean leaves. The results showed that the avoidance of volcanic ash increased as a function of time in both species. Both species studied are occasionally exposed to vol- canic activity, and come from an area in which a volcanic eruption had recently occurred. As their populations did not decrease after the ash fall, we propose that some behavioral responses such as avoidance of places with ash, works as tolerance mechanism to inert dusts exposure.展开更多

The authors get a description of the Teichmiiller distance in terms of the Jenkins-Strebel differential lengths of simple closed curves. Using this result, by relatively short arguments, some comparisons between dT and dL, dpi (i = 1, 2) on Tε(X) and T(X) are obtained, respectively. These comparisons improve a corresponding result of Li a little. As applications, the authors first get an alternative proof of the topological equivalence of dT to any one of dL, dp1 and dp2 on T(X). Second, a new proof of the completeness of the length spectrum metric from the viewpoint of Finsler geometry is given. Third, a simple proof of the following result of Liu-Papadopoulos is given: a sequence goes to infinity in T(X) with respect to dT if and only if it goes to infinity with respect to dL (as well as dpi (i = 1, 2)).展开更多
