TiO2 films were deposited at room temperature by DC pulse magnetron sputtering system.The crystalline structures,morphological features and photocatalytic activity of TiO2 films were systematically investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD),atomic force microscopy(AFM) and ultraviolet spectrophotometer,respectively.The results indicated that working pressure was the key deposition parameter in?uencing the TiO2 film phase composition at room temperature,which directly affected its photocatalytic activity.With increasing working pressure,the target self-bias decreases monotonously.Therefore,low temperature TiO2 phase(anatase) could be deposited with high working pressure.The anatase TiO2 films deposited with 1.4 Pa working pressure displayed the highest photocatalytic activity by the decomposition of Methyl Orange solution,which the degradation rate reached the maximum(35%) after irradiation by ultraviolet light for 1 h. 展开更多

Photocatalyst was prepared by immobilizing TiO2 on glass beads using the traditional sol-gel method. Ultraviolet light (UV) produced by pulsed streamer discharge was then used to induce photocatalytic activity of TiO2 photocatalyst. Decolouration efficiency of the representative azo dye (acid orange 7, AOT) was investigated using the synergistic system of pulsed streamer discharge plasma and TiO2 photocatalysis. The obtained results showed that the decolouration rate of AO7 could be increased by 16.7% under the condition of adding supported TiO2 in the pulsed streamer discharge system, compared to that in the sole pulsed streamer discharge plasma system, due to the synergistic effect of pulsed streamer discharge and TiO2 photocatalysis induced by pulsed streamer discharge. The synergistic system of pulsed streamer discharge and TiO2 photocatalyst was found to have more reactive radicals for degradation of organic compounds in water. 展开更多

In the present study,a combination of pulsed discharge plasma and TiO2(plasma/TiO2)has been developed in order to study the activity of TiO2by varying the discharge conditions of pulsed voltage,discharge mode,air flow rate and solution conductivity.Phenol was used as the chemical probe to characterize the activity of TiO2in a pulsed discharge system.The experimental results showed that the phenol removal efficiency could be improved by about 10%by increasing the applied voltage.The phenol removal efficiency for three discharge modes in the plasma-discharge-alone system was found to be highest in the spark mode,followed by the spark–streamer mode and finally the streamer mode.In the plasma/TiO2system,the highest catalytic effect of TiO2was observed in the spark–streamer discharge mode,which may be attributed to the favorable chemical and physical effects from the spark–streamer discharge mode,such as ultraviolet light,O3,H2O2,pyrolysis,shockwaves and high-energy electrons.Meanwhile,the optimal flow rate and conductivity were 0.05 m^3l^(-1)and 10μS cm^(-1),respectively.The main phenolic intermediates were hydroquinone,catechol,and p-benzoquinone during the discharge treatment process.A different phenol degradation pathway was observed in the plasma/TiO2system as compared to plasma alone.Analysis of the reaction intermediates demonstrated that p-benzoquinone reduction was selectively catalyzed on the TiO2surface.The effective decomposition of phenol constant(De)increased from 74.11%to 79.16%when TiO2was added,indicating that higher phenol mineralization was achieved in the plasma/TiO2system. 展开更多

TiO2 pigments are typically coated with inert layers to suppress the photocatalytic activity and improve the weatherability. However, the traditional inert layers have a lower refractive index compared to TiO2, and therefore reduce the lightening power of TiO2. In the present work, a uniform, amorphous, 2.9-nm-thick TiO2 protective layer was deposited onto the surface of anatase TiO2 pigments according to pulsed chemical vapor deposition at room temperature, with Ti Cl4 as titanium precursor. Amorphous TiO2 coating layers exhibited poor photocatalytic activity, leading to a boosted weatherability. Similarly, this coating method is also effective for TiO2 coating with amorphous SiO2 and SnO2 layers. However, the lightening power of amorphous TiO2 layer is higher than those of amorphous SiO2 and SnO2 layers. According to the measurements of photoluminescence lifetime, surface photocurrent density, charge-transfer resistance, and electron spin resonance spectroscopy, it is revealed that the amorphous layer can prevent the migration of photogenerated electrons and holes onto the surface, decreasing the densities of surface electron and hole, and thereby suppress the photocatalytic activity. 展开更多

TiO-2 thin films have bee deposited on p-Si(111) substrates by pulsed-laser ablation of metallic Ti target in the O-3 ambient. The current-voltage and capacitance-voltage of the Al/TiO-2/Si capacitors are measured. The results show that the dielectric constant of thin film after being annealed at 700℃ is found to be 46, and the border trap density and the interface state density at the TiO-2/p-Si interface are 1.8×10 12 cm -2 and 2×10 12 eV -1·cm -2, respectively. The conduction mechanisms of as-deposited films are also discussed. 展开更多

Nanocrystalline titanium oxide thin films have been successfully deposited on ITO coated glass by pulsed laser ablation of metallic Ti target in O<sub>3</sub>/O<sub>2</sub> ambient gases. The intercalation of Li ions in the anatase TiO<sub>2</sub> film electrode is examined by cyclic vohammetry. The electrochromic behaviour of TiO<sub>2</sub> electrode is investigated by in-situ visible transmittance measurement, and two absorption bands at 420 and 650 nm are observed. The absorption falling and rising in color changing with excellent revisibility is relative to the insertion and deintercalation processes of Li ion. These resuits suggest that nanocrystalline titanium oxide films fabricated by pulsed laser deposition exhibit excellent spectroelectrochemical property. 展开更多

Enhancement of photocatalytic activity by femtosecond-laser induced periodic surface structures of Si

Laser induced periodic surface structures(LIPSS)represent a kind of top down approach to produce highly reproducible nano/microstructures without going for any sophisticated process of lithography.This method is much simpler and cost effective.In this work,LIPSS on Si surfaces were generated using femtosecond laser pulses of 800 nm wavelength.Photocatalytic substrates were prepared by depositing TiO2 thin films on top of the structured and unstructured Si wafer.The coatings were produced by sputtering from a Ti target in two different types of oxygen atmospheres.In first case,the oxygen pressure within the sputtering chamber was chosen to be high(3×10^–2 mbar)whereas it was one order of magnitude lower in second case(2.1×10^–3 mbar).In photocatalytic dye decomposition study of Methylene blue dye it was found that in the presence of LIPSS the activity can be enhanced by 2.1 and 3.3 times with high pressure and low pressure grown TiO2 thin films,respectively.The increase in photocatalytic activity is attributed to the enlargement of effective surface area.In comparative study,the dye decomposition rates of TiO2 thin films grown on LIPSS are found to be much higher than the value for standard reference thin film material Pilkington Activ^TM. 展开更多

Plasmon-enhanced Performance of Dye-sensitized Solar Cells Based on Electrodeposited Ag Nanoparticles

In the present work, pulse current deposition is used to deposit evenly distributed and uniformly sized Ag nanoparticles onto a TiO2 nanotube array as photoelectrode in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), and the size and amount of loading Ag nanoparticles are controlled by the pulse deposition time. Due to the enhanced light absorption and electron-hole separation caused by plasmon effect, DSSCs based on Ag-modified TiO2 nanotube arrays show higher energy conversion efficiencies than those based on bare nanotubes with the same tube length. Particularly, DSSC based on nanotubes modified using pulse deposition time 1 s/3 s delivers the highest energy conversion efficiency of 1.68% and the largest short-circuit current of 4.37 mA/ cm2, while DSSC consisting of bare nanotubes exhibits efficiency of 1.20% and short-circuit current of 2.27 mA/cm2, which represents a 40% enhancement of cell efficiency in DSSC based on Ag-modified Ti02 nanotubes. It is also noted that overly long pulse deposition time will not further increase DSSC efficiency due to agglomeration of Ag particles. For example, when the pulse deposition time is increased to 2 s/6 s, DSSC based on Ag-modified nanotubes exhibits a lower efficiency of 1.42%. Moreover, high-concentration TiCI4 treatment on TiO2 nanotube arrays can further increase the energy conversion efficiencies to 3.82% and 2.61% for DSSC based on Ag-modified TiO2 nanotubes and DSSC based on bare TiO2 nanotubes, respectively, by significantly creating more surface area for dye loading. 展开更多
