Impacts of agri-food e-commerce on traditional wholesale industry:Evidence from China

Rapidly expanding studies investigate the effects of e-commerce on company operations in the retail market.However,the interaction between agri-food e-commerce(AEC)and the traditional agri-food wholesale industry(AWI)has not received enough attention in the existing literature.Based on the provincial panel data from 2013 to 2020 in China,this paper examines the effect of AEC on AWI,comprising three dimensions:digitalization(DIGITAL),agrifood e-commerce infrastructure and supporting services(AECI),and agri-food e-commerce economy(AECE).First,AWI and AEC are measured using an entropy-based combination of indicators.The results indicate that for China as a whole,AWI has remained practically unchanged,whereas AEC exhibits a significant rising trend.Second,the findings of the fixed-effect regression reveal that DIGITAL and AECE tend to raise AWI,whereas AECI negatively affects AWI.Third,threshold regression results indicate that AECI tends to diminish AWI with three-stage inhibitory intensity,which manifests as a first increase and then a drop in the inhibition degree.These results suggest that with the introduction of e-commerce for agricultural product circulation,digital development will have catfish effects that tend to stimulate the vitality of the conventional wholesale industry and promote technical progress.Furthermore,the traditional wholesale industry benefits financially from e-commerce even while it diverts part of the traditional wholesale circulation for agricultural products.

Distribution patterns and industry planning of commonly used traditional Chinese medicinal plants in China

Medicinal plants are the primary material basis for disease prevention and treatment in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).The conservation and sustainable utilization of these medicinal plants is critical for the development of the TCM industry.However,wild medicinal plant resources have sharply declined in recent decades.To ameliorate the shortage of medicinal plant resources,it is essential to explore the development potential of the TCM industry in different geographical regions.For this purpose,we examined the spatial distribution of commonly used medicinal plants in China,the number of Chinese medicinal material markets,and the number of TCM decoction piece enterprises.Specifically,multispecies superimposition analysis and Thiessen polygons were used to reveal the optimal range for planting bulk medicinal plants and the ideal regions for building Chinese medicinal material markets,respectively.Furthermore,we quantitatively analyzed mismatches between the spatial distribution of commonly used medicinal plant richness,Chinese medicinal material markets,and TCM decoction piece enterprises.We found that the areas suitable for growing commonly used medicinal plants in China were mainly distributed in Hengduan Mountain,Nanling Mountain,Wuling Mountain,and Daba Mountain areas.The Thiessen polygon network based on Chinese medicinal material market localities showed there are currently fewer markets in southwestern,northwestern,and northeastern China than in central and southern China.TCM decoction piece enterprises are concentrated in a few provinces,such as Hebei and Jiangxi.We found that the distribution of commonly used medicinal plants,Chinese medicinal material markets and TCM decoction piece enterprises are mismatched in Henan,Shaanxi,Hunan,Hubei,Zhejiang,Fujian,Chongqing,and Xizang.We recommend strengthening development of the TCM industry in Henan,Hunan,Zhejiang,Shaanxi,Hubei,Chongqing,Fujian,and Xizang;building more Chinese medicinal material markets in southwestern,northwestern,and northeastern China;and establishing medicinal plant nurseries in resource-rich provinces to better protect and domesticate local medicinal plants.

Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) Standard Review for Self-Inspection and Management for VOC Emission in China’s Traditional Energy Chemical Industry

The emission of the traditional energy chemical industry accounts for 20% of the total manmade VOC emission in China, of which coal chemical and petrochemical plants are one of the most important VOC emission sources. VOC emission sources mainly include the leakage of oil refinery units and equipment, pipes and valves, respiration and leakage of various types of storage tanks, effusion of oils during loading and unloading, effusion of sewage treatment systems, all kinds of process tail gas, etc. In this paper, the current management status of VOC emission in China’s coal chemical industry and petrochemical industry are analyzed, which divides VOC management into intentional and fugitive emission. The Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) management method and technology for equipment, pipes and valves implemented in the United States are studied to propose self-inspection management methods and measures for VOC emissions in the energy chemical industry, providing strategies and recommendations for energy conservation, emission reduction and cleaner production in the traditional energy chemical industry.

The Rising,Recession and Revitalization of the Traditional Industrial Base in the Northeastern United States

The distribution of American industries has been unbalanced and most of the early industrial regions were centered in northeastern America.The northeastern traditional industrial base once was called"manufacturing belt".Since the 1950s,old industrial bases in the United States have been under recession.The northeastern region was then even called"rust belt".Some issues and measures of policy were set up by the government to adjust and restructure the old industrial bases,and some are useful experience and inspirations for our country,such as setting up special branches and organizations,establishing and implementing strategic planning for the adjustment and restructure of old industrial bases,adjusting the industrial branch and system,emphasizing on environment control and preservation and so on was achieved.Learning the successful experience from America,effective countermeasures and steps must be taken to accelerate the revival of the old industrial base in Northeastern China.

Problems in the Development of Traditional Chinese Medicinal Materials Planting Industry in Shiyan City and Countermeasures

Through the analysis on the cultivation advantages and development problems of traditional Chinese medicinal planting industry in Shiyan City, Hubei Province, some measures were proposed to enlarge and enhance the traditional Chinese medicinal planting industry, namely, large-scale, standardized, market-oriented and regionalized planting, thereby making it the pillar industry for farmers to increase income.

Traditional Chinese sport conveys China＇s millenniums＇ culture, which can be taken as symbol of China＇s culture. Therefore, the application for the status of national intangible cultural heritage becomes unavoidable. No matter it will be successful or not, the process will boost its industry. This paper argued its push to traditional Chinese sport industry from the point of traveling, sporting goods, culture industry and entertainment and relaxation.

Study and Countermeasures on Safety Control of Traditional Chinese Medicines Industry Chain

I'm very grateful to Chinese Pharmaceutical Association and DIA for their elaborate organization,so that we are able to participate in the Sino-Europe Symposium.Yesterday and today,several professors have talked about various aspects.It is true that the effectiveness of traditional Chinese medicine is important,and safety is equally important.For this reason,our laboratory works on the effective test,and at the same time,since 2001,we have been focusing on the safety of traditional Chinese medicines,especially the research on exogenous pollution.Today,I would like to share with you some of the quality control of the whole industry chain of traditional Chinese medicine and some of our thoughts.

Quality 4.0 technologies to enhance traditional Chinese medicine for overcoming healthcare challenges during COVID-19

The Quality 4.0 concept is derived from the industrial fourth revolution,i.e.,Industry 4.0.Quality 4.0 is the future of quality,where new digital and disruptive technologies are used to maintain quality in organizations.It is also suitable for traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)to maintain quality.This quality revolution aims to improve industrial and service sectors’quality by incorporating emerging technologies to connect physical systems with the natural world.The proposed digital philosophy can update and enhance the entire TCM treatment methodology to become more effective and attractive in the current competitive structure of the pharmaceutical and clinical industries.Thus,in healthcare,this revolution empowers quality treatment during the COVID-19 pandemic.There is a major requirement in healthcare to maintain the quality of medical tools,equipment,and treatment processes during a pandemic.Digital technologies can widely be used to provide innovative products and services with excellent quality for TCM.In this paper,we discuss the significant role of Quality 4.0 and how it can be used to maintain healthcare quality and fulfill challenges during the pandemic.Additionally,we discuss 10 significant applications of Quality 4.0 in healthcare during the COVID-19 pandemic.These technologies will provide unique benefits to maintain the quality of TCM throughout the treatment process.With Quality 4.0,quality can be maintained using innovative and advanced digital technologies.

Reason Analysis and Risk Prevention of Soaring Price of Traditional Chinese Medicinal Materials

In recent years,the price of traditional Chinese medicinal materials soars continuously,and the resulting price risk increasingly looms large,which has critically affected midstream and downstream industries and peoples' demand for drug,and imperiled healthy and orderly development of traditional Chinese medicinal industries.Based on the status quo of continuous skyrocketing price of traditional Chinese medicinal materials at present,we winkle out the root cause of soaring price as follows:the supply and demand lose balance;the production costs hike up;there are other factors responsible for soaring price.This paper further analyses the impact of sharp increase in price of traditional Chinese medicinal materials on all links of industry chain as follows:the medicinal herb growers never benefit from soaring price;the counterfeiters and forgers in midstream industry increase;the gross profit rate of Chinese medicine enterprises declines.In accordance with the risk arising from abnormal fluctuation in price of traditional Chinese medicinal materials,corresponding precautionary measures are put forward as follows:promote the quality of traditional Chinese medicinal materials through management of value chain;curtail the production and management cost of traditional Chinese medicinal materials through management of organization chain;stabilize price of traditional Chinese medicinal materials through management of information chain;reduce transaction cost of traditional Chinese medicinal materials through management of logistics chain.

The Different Perception and Reaction of Customers Toward Traditional Marketing and Influencer Marketing in Food

This research paper is aimed at investigating the consumer preference for traditional marketing and influencer marketing in food industry.To accomplish this,the researchers set two questionnaire surveys to collect data.These two questionnaires investigated consumers’different attitudes and reaction toward two rose-cake brands(Holiland and LI ZI QI),by showing them the two different types of advertisements:one for traditional marketing and the other for influencer marketing.After a detailed analysis of the data collected,it was discovered that both influencer marketing and traditional marketing have the capability to deliver the persuasive product information and make consumers desirable to purchase the products;however,consumers tend to pay more creditably and trust to LI ZI QI’s brand,which is the brand using influencer marketing,and are willing to spend more money on it.

Model of Pollution Management Control in Badung River： Enhancing Role of Traditional Law on Common Resource

Badung River in the Denpasar city of Bali Province, Indonesia, faces many challenging issues recently. As a common pool resource, the river has been under pressure from many activities including household activities which dump household wastes, and pollution externalities arising from dyeing and screen-printing of fabric industries. Conventional approach to control the pollution might not be effective since it will end up in zero sum game. This paper attempts to explore the role of traditional institituion in managing common pool resource such as controlling river pollution. This research is aimed to know the effectiveness of traditional law on managing pollution of printing and dyeing industries on this big river. Survey method was used for collecting primary data and then the data was analyzed by ordinal regression to determine the effect of internal and external factors which influence the intensity of pollution. The result indicates that even though traditional might help to influence household and industry＇s decision making, it might not sufficient enough to reduce the pollution of the river. Other factors are influencing the waste management, such as level of waste management knowledge of the entrepreneur, the attitude of the entrepreneur toward public program especially on waste and pollution management, the financial support, and the education level of government supervision. Furthermore, Government of Denpasar City need to arrange policy that giving incentive to businessman who handling waste properly and also giving reward to traditional organization who implementing local wisdom and norm to control river pollution strictly.

Impact of the Digital Economy on the Integration of Traditional Manufacturing Industry Chain and Innovation Chain:An Empirical Study Based on China's Provincial Experience

The traditional manufacturing industry is the backbone of China's real economy,which serves as the cornerstone for fostering high-quality economic development.This paper analyzes the operational mechanism and impact of the digital economy on the integration of traditional manufacturing industry chain and innovation chain.To achieve these goals,this paper first establishes an evaluation indicator system from three dimensions,such as the industrial base,innovation ecosystem,and economic benefits.Additionally,the paper adopts a comprehensive approach,incorporating the coupling coordination degree model,spatial econometric model,and mediating effect model.The major findings include three points.(1)The digital economy plays a pivotal role in promoting the integration of traditional manufacturing industry chain and innovation chain by addressing capital mismatches,facilitating the concentration of technology talents,and promoting financial development.The integration contributes to the optimized allocation of scientific and technological resources with innovation in the upgrading of production factors.(2)The digital economy plays a nonlinear role in promoting the integration of traditional manufacturing industry chain and innovation chain.(3)The digital economy has a positive spatial spillover effect on the integrated development of traditional manufacturing industry chainandinnovation chain.

Barriers to Global Recognition of Traditional African Medicines: A Systematic Review of Cultural, Scientific, Regulatory, and Economic Factors

Despite the profound cultural and medicinal heritage of traditional African medicines (TAM), their global recognition remains notably limited. This study investigates the factors behind this issue, focusing on cultural perceptions, scientific validation, regulatory frameworks, and pharmaceutical industry influence. Utilizing a systematic literature review (SLR) to provide a thorough and structured overview, the research addresses these factors with transparency and reproducibility. Key findings reveal that negative cultural perceptions, the dominance of Western medicine, and skepticism towards traditional healers, especially in urban and educated populations, marginalize TAM. Additionally, religious beliefs and historical influences, such as colonialism, further devalue indigenous knowledge systems. The study also highlights a significant lack of scientific research and clinical trials, which challenges the conventional validation of TAM’s efficacy. Moreover, inconsistent international and national regulatory frameworks and the pharmaceutical industry’s dominance impede TAM’s integration into global healthcare systems. To enhance TAM’s credibility and global acceptance, the study advocates for standardized regulatory policies, increased scientific research, and a reevaluation of intellectual property laws. This shift towards a more inclusive and integrative approach in global health systems could bridge the gap between traditional and modern medical practices, promoting a more holistic understanding of health and wellness.

数字经济驱动中国传统产业创新发展研究

研究数字经济驱动传统产业创新发展,有助于促进数字经济和实体经济深度融合,对于打造具有国际竞争力的数字产业集群具有重要价值。在梳理经典研究脉络的基础上,从数字化基础设施、数字化应用状况、数字化发展环境和数字金融发展四个维度综合选取了13个二级指标,构建中国数字经济发展水平指标体系,运用主成分分析法测算出2011-2020年中国数字经济的发展指数。遵循“数字化赋能-多重驱动-创新变革”的逻辑思路,运用面板固定效应模型、中介效应模型等多种计量模型就数字经济对传统产业创新发展的驱动效应、传导路径和区域异质性影响进行实证检验。研究发现:第一,数字经济发展能够显著提升传统产业创新能力,用广义矩估计法进行内生性检验、用外生冲击等四种方法进行稳健性检验后该结论仍然成立。第二,从驱动路径来看,数字经济通过助力传统产业转型升级、促进普惠金融发展以及拉动消费需求,对传统产业创新发展产生了积极性影响,产业结构、金融发展和消费需求的中介效应占比分别为8.89%、11.09%和21.02%,可见这三个变量中消费需求的中介作用更为明显。第三,数字经济对传统产业创新发展的驱动效应存在区域异质性,数字经济显著促进了东部和西部地区传统产业的创新发展,但对中部地区的影响不显著。基于以上结论,提出如下政策建议:第一,继续深入推进数字经济与传统产业融合发展;第二,优化顶层制度设计,发挥产业升级、金融发展以及消费需求的“中介因素”作用;第三,实施差异化数字经济战略,提升各地发展的协调性与均衡性。本研究为理解数字经济驱动与传统产业创新发展的链接路径提供了有益的补充,为制造强国、质量强国、网络强国、数字中国提供了理论阐释与实证检验。

How artificial intelligence technology leads the revolution of the shipbuilding industry

As a typical traditional manufacturing industry, the shipping industry is also facing the same situation as most of the traditional industries.On one hand, artificial intelligence will become the main way for the shipbuilding industry to increase production efficiency and reduce business costs. On the other hand, the application of artificial intelligence will change the existing traditional manufacturing model as well as business model.

传统产业集群基于工业互联网平台的数字化转型路径研究——以广东为例

产业集群对经济发展具有强大的支撑作用,但传统产业集群数字化转型面临转型动力不足、数字化联结松散、供应链韧性不足的窘境。广东省拥有扎实的工业互联网基础,传统产业集群通过工业互联网平台加快数字化转型步伐,但鲜有文献深入研究其转型的路径。本文基于种群生态理论和平台二重观,结合广东省传统产业集群转型升级典型案例展开研究发现,组织生态系统要素、组织生态系统类型、平台二重性的不同会孕育出不同的数字化转型升级路径。据此,本文总结出中立平台凝聚型、标杆企业影响型、龙头企业拉动型这三条数字化转型路径,以期为传统产业集群数字化转型发展提供切实可行的建议。
