Musical term translation is established by usage, musical researchers and those who understand music have no problems of understanding the musical terms and musical instruments and names of famous musicians. Foreign scholars obtain the ideas of Chinese culture by means of published writings in the mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong, and also from the media and the Internet. Since there are cultural differences of mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong, they may make misunderstanding in their works related to Chinese musicians, historical events and even musical instruments. Accurate back-translation of specific terms from the works written by foreign scholars requires corresponding specific and historical knowledge, consulting dictionaries and skills of using the Internet.展开更多

However, getting a parallel corpus, which has a large scale and is of high quality,is a very difficult task especially for low resource languages such as Chinese-Vietnamese. Fortunately, multilingual user generated contents( UGC),such as bilingual movie subtitles, provide us access to automatic construction of the parallel corpus. Although the amount of UGC parallel corpora can be considerable, the original corpus is not suitable for statistical machine translation( SMT) systems. The corpus may contain translation errors, sentence mismatching, free translations, etc. To improve the quality of the bilingual corpus for SMT systems, three filtering methods are proposed: sentence length difference, the semantic of sentence pairs, and machine learning. Experiments are conducted on the Chinese to Vietnamese translation corpus.Experimental results demonstrate that all the three methods effectively improve the corpus quality, and the machine translation performance( BLEU score) can be improved by 1. 32.展开更多

This will be based on an empirical corpus-based study of two modern Chinese versions of Gabriel Garcfa Marquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude. The case study reveals that in translating linguistic events, textual features and cultural phenomena that are unknown to the target audience, for example, magical realism, into Chinese, translators may adopt a range of translation strategies and tactics that lead to significant differences between the genre of the translation and the corre- sponding genre in the target language. New linguistic expressions and writing techniques introduced by experimental literary translation will either be normalised by existing writing conventions or be accepted by the target readership which in turn will expand and enrich the target language and cultural system.展开更多

The author principally interprets da as "conveying" the mood and then the meaning of the original work into the target language. This position is then illustrated by specific examples from Lu Xun's (1881-1936) emotive and highly allusive classical-style poetry, engaging issues regarding its annotation, exegesis, and translation which have arisen in Chinese literary and scholarly circles. The author suggests that since the deployment of affective images has often been designated as an essential and distinguishing characteristic of Chinese poetry, the translation of Chinese poetry into Western languages must make an effort to engage with the original images--not simply resorting to paraphrases or substitutions--and concludes that poetry in translation can and does have important and lasting effects on the literature of the target language.展开更多
