Establishment of an index system for evaluating outstanding biomedical scientists for science foundation of Shanghai

Objective:To establish a scientific,objective and applicable index system for evaluating out- standing biomedical scientists for science foundation of Shanghai.Methods:According to the principal in- dices that have been used in the developed countries for evaluating their talented personnel and the reality of our country,an index system was set up to evaluate the outstanding biomedical scientists for Shanghai science foundation.The following parameters were used to simplify the indices.,correlation coefficient, multiple correlation coefficient,partial correlation coefficient,creditability,and discriminatory power. And analytic hierarchy process was used to determine the weights of each index.Results and Conclusions: The established index system is scientific and applicable;it is helpful for cultivating and evaluating out- standing biomedical scientists.

Improved Bat Algorithm with Deep Learning-Based Biomedical ECG Signal Classification Model

With new developments experienced in Internet of Things(IoT),wearable,and sensing technology,the value of healthcare services has enhanced.This evolution has brought significant changes from conventional medicine-based healthcare to real-time observation-based healthcare.Biomedical Electrocardiogram(ECG)signals are generally utilized in examination and diagnosis of Cardiovascular Diseases(CVDs)since it is quick and non-invasive in nature.Due to increasing number of patients in recent years,the classifier efficiency gets reduced due to high variances observed in ECG signal patterns obtained from patients.In such scenario computer-assisted automated diagnostic tools are important for classification of ECG signals.The current study devises an Improved Bat Algorithm with Deep Learning Based Biomedical ECGSignal Classification(IBADL-BECGC)approach.To accomplish this,the proposed IBADL-BECGC model initially pre-processes the input signals.Besides,IBADL-BECGC model applies NasNet model to derive the features from test ECG signals.In addition,Improved Bat Algorithm(IBA)is employed to optimally fine-tune the hyperparameters related to NasNet approach.Finally,Extreme Learning Machine(ELM)classification algorithm is executed to perform ECG classification method.The presented IBADL-BECGC model was experimentally validated utilizing benchmark dataset.The comparison study outcomes established the improved performance of IBADL-BECGC model over other existing methodologies since the former achieved a maximum accuracy of 97.49%.

Recentdevelopments in fluorescence- basedmicroscopy applied in biomedical sciences

The present short review aims to give an overview of the most recent developments in fluorescence microscopy and its applications in biomedical sciences. Apart from improvements in well established methods based on conventional fluorescence microscopy and confocal microscopy (fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH), tyramide signal amplification (TSA) in immunocytochemistry, new fluorophores), more recently introduced techniques like fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET), fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP), multiphoton microscopy and fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS) will be discussed.

Translation of Biomedical Literature From a Perspective of Skopos Theory

The frontier studies about bio-medicine have a large blowout in recent years,so the translation of bio-medical literature is significant in terms of research.Under the guidance of Skopos theory,the authors analyze the use of different translation skills,such as,addition,omission,conversion,division,and combination,to solve the difficulties encountered in the process of translation.Such translations skills can help to overcome translation problems and achieve good communicative effect of scientific and technological texts.

English-Chinese Translation of Science and Technology Texts Based on the Differences Between Chinese and Western Modes of Thinking

As a tool for human communication,the use of language is affected by the way of thinking in cross-cultural communication.Due to the differences between Chinese and Western cultures,the way of thinking varies under the influence of such cultural differences.In the process of translation,the influence of the different thinking mode on translation activities cannot be ignored.At present,a lot of studies and researches have focused on the influence of Chinese and Western thinking mode on translation.However,it is still worthwhile to study what specific influence the difference between Chinese and Western thinking mode will exert on the translation process of science texts and what kind of measure should be taken to solve the negative influence brought by the differences when we are translating.This paper aims to discuss the influence of thinking differences between Chinese and Western countries on the process of English-Chinese translation of science and technology from the perspectives of long sentences,passive voice and nominalization,and how the translators should appropriately adjust their thinking pattern and use reasonable skills to eliminate the potential negative interference caused by the difference and achieve a better transformation between English and Chinese.

Translational status of biomedical Mg devices in China

Magnesium(Mg)and its alloys as temporary medical implants with biodegradable and properly mechanical properties have been investigated for a long time.There are already three kinds of biodegradable Mg implants which are approved by Conformite Europeene(CE)or Korea Food and Drug Administration(KFDA),but not China Food and Drug Administration(CFDA,now it is National Medical Products Administration,NMPA).As we know,Chinese researchers,surgeons,and entrepreneurs have tried a lot to research and develop biodegradable Mg implants which might become other new approved implants for clinical applications.So in this review,we present the representative Mg implants of three categories,orthopedic implants,surgical implants,and intervention implants and provide an overview of current achievement in China from academic publications and Chinese patents.We would like to provide a systematic way to translate Mg and its alloy implants from experiment designs to clinical products.

Precision Medicine: What Do We Expect in the Scope of Basic Biomedical Sciences?

The era of Precision Medicine （PM） has entered its execution phase where acquisition of human genome variation data is already leading the charge [1,2]. PM has come a long way to this phase from the Human Genome Project started some 25 years ago [3,4]; it marks the beginning of disease-centric research in the field of biomedical sciences. Other than deliver- ing high-coverage human genomes by millions--of course tai- lored to patients and common diseases--in the next decade or so, what else do we expect to have and what should we be doing to make the best out of PM projects beyond the current expectation of genetics？
