A Comparative Study of the English Translations of“Chun Ye Xi Yu”From the Perspective of Register Theory

Ancient poetry is an irreplaceable component of Chinese culture and an invaluable asset in China’s cultural heritage.With the rapid development of globalization and informatization,Chinese poem is attracting more and more interests and focuses as one part of China’s cultural soft power which plays an important role on spreading traditional Chinese culture.Systemic functional linguistics mainly explores the essence,entailment,system and structure of language from the perspective of social culture,especially the relationship between context and discourse.Therefore,the paper applies the register theory to Chinese poem translations of Xu Yuanchong and Yang Xianyi of“Chun Ye Xi Yu”in order to compare two translated texts from three aspects of field,tenor,and mode,and examine the expression of the connotation of the original poem between the two translations.

A Comparative Study of Chinese Translations of Tagore’s Stray Birds From the Perspective of the“Three Beauties Theory”

For more than 60 years,Mr.Xu Yuanchong has been devoted to education.He has not only made remarkable achievements in translating from and into Chinese,English,French and other languages,but has also developed his own unique concept of translation.Since 1950,he has always adhered to the“Three Beauties Theory”,believing that translation should not only rely on the original text,but also realize the“beauty of meaning”,“beauty of sound”,and“beauty of form”.Based on Xu Yuanchong’s“Three Beauties Theory”,this paper takes Zheng Zhenduo’s and Feng Tang’s Chinese translations of Stray Birds as an example to explore in depth the specifics of poetry translation theory.The study summarizes the similarities and differences between these two translations in embodying the“three beauties”,providing insights into the Chinese translation techniques of philosophical prose poems.This endeavor seeks to offer valuable insights for the comparative study of Stray Birds translations。

A Case Study of Periodical Terminologies’Mis-translations in History of Chinese Journalism by Ko Kung-chen under Analysis-Synthesis Translation Mode

From the perspective of analysis-synthesis translation mode,this paper discusses the translator’s responsibility and the translator’s role in the translation of historiography,based on the case of Ko Kung-chen’s History of Chinese Journalism.Missionary J.S.Roberts believed that translation is the logical combination of two processes of analysis and synthesis.The analysis process is characterized by understanding,emphasizing accurate understanding and professional analysis of the source text,while the synthesis process focuses on the transformation of language and culture.The two processes are dependent,forming the whole process of translation altogether.As the indisputable subject of translation,the translator should assume his own subjective responsibility in the two processes.The translator should be responsible for the fact and professional academics in the analysis process,and language and culture and translation itself in the synthesis process,playing the role of a reviewer,disseminator and translator to ensure that the translation text would be correct,accurate and professional so as to realize the value of himself and translation.

“Three Beauties”Principle in the English Versions of“Jing Ye Si”--Translations by Xu and Fletcher as Examples

“Jing Ye Si”is a classical poem with international influence by the Chinese poet Li Bai in the Tang Dynasty,which expresses the poet’s deep nostalgia.This paper compares and analyzes its two English versions translated by the Chinese translator Xu Yuanchong and the British translator W.J.B.Fletcher based on the“three beauties”principle(beauty in sense,beauty in sound,and beauty in form),and discovers that the English version of Xu basically achieves the unity of the“three beauties”,while the English version of Fletcher realizes the“beauty in sound and form”,but deviates from the“beauty in sense”mainly owing to the inaccurate comprehension of the moon as an image and other factors.This analysis may afford us with certain reference in poetry translation.

Comparative Textual Studies on Bai Hua's Poem Xiatian Hai Hen Yuan and Its English Translations

Based on the poem Xiatian Hai Hen Yuan夏天还很远, one of the most characteristic works of the Chinese poet Bai Hua, along with its four English translations, this paper conducts comparative textual studies with regard to three aspects, including the translation of hidden personae, the selection of the tense and aspectas well as the rendition of poetic rhythms. The author holds the view that, on the one hand, different textual interpretations have gone a long way toward the dissemination of the original poem in the English-speaking world;on the other hand, the translator's proper understanding and rendition is of great significance with a view to a better presentation of the unique beauty of Chinese poetry both in the content and the form.

Comparative Study of Chinese Bible Translations from the Perspective of Skopos Theory

It is universally acknowledged that the holy Bible has played a significant role in both Christianity and literature field. In China, translating Bible also enjoyed a long history and so far over 30 Chinese Bible translations have been produced. Along with age-old Bible translating practices in China come with varied Chinese Bible versions, due to the fact that different translators adopt different translational skopos. Skpos theory, mainly coined by Vermeer, has been quite popular in recent years. This purpose-based translation theory has ignited paradigm shift in translation study from the source text to target text. This paper will be attempting to conduct a comparative study of two most popular modern Chinese Bible versions, CUV (Chinese Union Version) and TCV (Today's Chinese Version). By comparing two versions of the same extract, this article aims to apply Skopos theory into analyzing each translator's decisions and strategies from domestication and foreignization.

In this paper,with Collection of Chinese Works by Matteo Ricci written by Zhu Weizheng and A summary Interpretation of Chinese literature of Matteo Ricci in Ming and Qing Dynasties written by Tang Kaijian as major research texts and historical basis,as well as intercultural communication as the major research method,the aesthetic adaptation of native music of traditional Chinese music,etiquette,sacrifice and religious customs under the description of Matteo Ricci is discussed and interpreted from the perspective of the spread of musical culture of the Maritime Silk Road,four stages of field investigation are planned,and related musical activities and local musical phenomena appearing in his literature have an on-site visit.In this way,the vital position and historical significance of Matteo Ricci’s cultural missionary activities in the music communication on the Maritime Silk Road are obtained.

An Analysis of Problematic C-E Translations of Signs in Light of Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory

Based on Nida’s Functional Equivalence theory,this article makes an analysis of the problems in C-E translations ofsigns in China.The author will discuss respectively the problematic C-E translations from two respects:1)not being equivalent tosource-language message,and 2)not being natural for target language.If translators work hard with the help of Nida’s functionalequivalence theory,the defects and imperfections will be discovered,and standard signs in English will be read more and more inpublic places.

SINGULAR INTEGRAL EQUATIONS WITHCOMPLEX TRANSLATIONS

In this paper, a class of singular integral equations with complex translations is discussed. By using the Plemelj projection method the authors reduce them to the boundary value problem of analytic functions in A(+)(H) over cap(0) with upper translation and the boundary value problem of analytic functions in A-(H) over cap(0) with lower translation, which are solved here.

Effect of nonlinear translations on the pulsation of cavitation bubbles

The pulsations and translations of cavitation bubbles obey combined ordinary differential equations,and their nonlinearities are studied by the bifurcation diagram and the phase diagram in a strong ultrasonic field.Bubble pulsation can change regularly or irregularly with changing driving pressure in the time domain.The bifurcation diagrams of the pulsation versus driving pressure show that the pulsations and translations of bubbles have nonlinear characteristics,and the nonlinear translations of bubbles can disorder the pulsations for certain parameters.Disorder of the pulsation can also be caused by nonlinear pulsation itself.In addition,the phase diagrams also show that the nonlinear translations make a large contribution to the pulsations.The same result can also be obtained when the ambient radii of two bubbles are different.

Cross-Language Information Extraction and Auto Evaluation for OOV Term Translations

OOV term translation plays an important role in natural language processing. Although many researchers in the past have endeavored to solve the OOV term translation problems, but none existing methods offer definition or context information of OOV terms. Furthermore, non-existing methods focus on cross-language definition retrieval for OOV terms. Never the less, it has always been so difficult to evaluate the correctness of an OOV term translation without domain specific knowledge and correct references. Our English definition ranking method differentiate the types of OOV terms, and applies different methods for translation extraction. Our English definition ranking method also extracts multilingual context information and monolingual definitions of OOV terms. In addition, we propose a novel cross-language definition retrieval system for OOV terms. Never the less, we propose an auto re-evaluation method to evaluate the correctness of OOV translations and definitions. Our methods achieve high performances against existing methods.

INCloud:integrated neuroimaging cloud for data collection,management,analysis and clinical translations

Background Neuroimaging techniques provide rich and accurate measures of brain structure and function,and have become one of the most popular methods in mental health and neuroscience research.Rapidly growing neuroimaging research generates massive amounts of data,bringing new challenges in data collection,large-scale data management,efficient computing requirements and data mining and analyses.Aims To tackle the challenges and promote the application of neuroimaging technology in clinical practice,we developed an integrated neuroimaging cloud(INCloud).INCloud provides a full-stack solution for the entire process of large-scale neuroimaging data collection,management,analysis and clinical applications.Methods INCloud consists of data acquisition systems,a data warehouse,automatic multimodal image quality check and processing systems,a brain feature library,a high-performance computing cluster and computer-aided diagnosis systems(CADS)for mental disorders.A unique design of INCloud is the brain feature library that converts the unit of data management from image to image features such as hippocampal volume.Connecting the CADS to the scientific database,INCloud allows the accumulation of scientific data to continuously improve the accuracy of objective diagnosis of mental disorders.Results Users can manage and analyze neuroimaging data on INCloud,without the need to download them to the local device.INCloud users can query,manage,analyze and share image features based on customized criteria.Several examples of'mega-analyses'based on the brain feature library are shown.Conclusions Compared with traditional neuroimaging acquisition and analysis workflow,INCloud features safe and convenient data management and sharing,reduced technical requirements for researchers,high-efficiency computing and data mining,and straightforward translations to clinical service.The design and implementation of the system are also applicable to imaging research platforms in other fields.

REPRESENTATION OF GENERALIZED TRANSLATIONS OF THE PRODUCT OF TWO FUNCTIONS ON SIGNED HYPERGROUPS ON THE REAL LINE

In this paper, we consider the generalized translations associated with the Dunkl and the Jacobi-Dunkl differential-difference operators on the real line which provide the structure of signed hrpergroups on R. Especially, we study the representation of the gener- alized translations of the product of two functions for these signed hypergroups.
