In the 21st century,the development of digital and new media technologies has ushered in an age of pervasive multimodal communication,which has significantly amplified the role of multimodal translation in facilitating crosscultural exchanges.Despite the profound impact of these developments,the prevailing translation pedagogy remains predominantly focused on the enhancement of linguistic translation skills,with noticeable neglect of the imperative to cultivate students’competencies in multimodal translation.Based on the distinctive characteristics and challenges that multimodal translation presents in the context of new media,this study delves into the formulation of educational objectives and curriculum design for the training of multimodal translators.The intent is to propose a framework that can guide the preparation of translators who are adept and equipped to navigate the complexities and demands of the contemporary age.

Translation regulation is an important layer of gene expression:Generation of genome-wide expression datasets at multi-omics levels in spatial,temporal,and cell-type resolution is essential for deciphering brain complexity.Regulation of gene expression is a highly dynamic process aiming at the production of precise levels of gene products to guarantee optimal cellular function,in response to physiological cues.Speedy advances in next-generation sequencing enabled the understanding of epigenomic and transcriptomic dynamic landscapes of different brain regions along development,aging,and disease progression.However,the correlation of the“transcriptome”with protein levels is poor because numerous mRNAs are subjected to manipulation of their translation efficiency,to warrant a favorable result under certain conditions.Hence,it is widely accepted that regulation at the translation level is a vital layer of gene expression.Quantification of actively translated mRNA populations(i.e.,“translatome”)is a more reliable predictor of the“proteome”(Wang et al.,2020).

Return to ethics： On translators＇ norms of honor and shame

Translation studies has undergone three different periods： the traditional philological period, the modem linguistic period and the contemporary cultural period. Ever since the cultural turn, especially after the introduction of deconstruction into translation, traditional translation theories have been greatly affected. The traditional principle like faithfulness to the source text and the writer has been attacked and the translator＇s subjectivity and creativity have been greatly advocated. Under such circumstances, this paper, however, holds that translation studies should turn to ethics for the messy situation, and translators should be able to identify norms of honor and shame in translation practice.

Reframing narratives and translators＇ invisibility： On translators＇ position

This paper takes refraining narratives and translators＇ invisibility as the theoretical base for discussing the translators＇ position. Translating is to reconstruct the original text, which leads to information changes. This change is attributed to translator＇s idiolect and thinking pattern as well as different languages. The translator＇s role is obvious in the text translation. How to be invisible？ Even if invisibility is possible, the invisibility is like a moon in water, flower in fog. That is vague but invisible.

Dictionaries play an indispensable role in translation through providing definitions and showing various translation skills. On Yangbi's Translation of Vanity Fair from the Perspective of Translators' Subjectivity

Translation is the bridge between the source language and the target language,while the translator is the media through which all the expected equivalents are found,all the levels of the source texts,from specific lexical level to the whole style level are changed smoothly into target language,and thus makes translation possible. In this essay,the present author will mainly focus on some different versions of translation of Vanity Fair,and through comparison,some distinct superiority of Yangbi's version are shown. At last,the author tries to draw a conclusion that translators' subjectivity is a consequential element in translation process,translators' intuition of foreign language and good mastery of mother tongue are the guarantee of satisfactory translation.

On Creativity of Business Correspondence Translators

It will not always reach the purpose of efficient communication when a translator is just translating business correspondence word by word.In order to reach such purpose,he/she should develop the creativity that is one of the presences of the subjectivity of a translator during his/her translation process.This paper will discuss how to develop the creativity in translating business correspondence based on the Skopos Theory originated from Germany and by illustrating some examples to show the details.Those principles of exactness,faithfulness and consistence are the spirit to translate business correspondence when a translator is developing the creativity.

RNPS1 stabilizes NAT10 protein to facilitate translation in cancer via tRNA ac^(4)C modification

Existing studies have underscored the pivotal role of N-acetyltransferase 10(NAT10) in various cancers. However, the outcomes of protein-protein interactions between NAT10 and its protein partners in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma(HNSCC) remain unexplored. In this study, we identified a significant upregulation of RNA-binding protein with serine-rich domain 1(RNPS1) in HNSCC, where RNPS1 inhibits the ubiquitination degradation of NAT10 by E3 ubiquitin ligase, zinc finger SWIM domain-containing protein 6(ZSWIM6), through direct protein interaction, thereby promoting high NAT10 expression in HNSCC. This upregulated NAT10 stability mediates the enhancement of specific tRNA ac^(4)C modifications, subsequently boosting the translation process of genes involved in pathways such as IL-6 signaling, IL-8 signaling, and PTEN signaling that play roles in regulating HNSCC malignant progression, ultimately influencing the survival and prognosis of HNSCC patients. Additionally, we pioneered the development of TRMC-seq, leading to the discovery of novel t RNA-ac^(4)C modification sites, thereby providing a potent sequencing tool for tRNAac^(4)C research. Our findings expand the repertoire of tRNA ac^(4)C modifications and identify a role of tRNA ac^(4)C in the regulation of mRNA translation in HNSCC.

Complexity Theory, Emergence, and Translation： Educating Translators as Agents of Human Interaction in a Complex Society

This paper sets out to argue the relevance for translation studies of complexity theory. It endeavours to argue, though briefly, that translation can be conceptualized as an emergent concept. It then indicates how theories of emergence in social studies provide new scope to theorise agency. Lastly, it considers the implications of the conceptualization for translator education. The arguments put forward in this paper lay the foundation for a philosophy of translation, i.e., a meta-theory of translation in which translation is viewed both as emerging from particular complex human interactions such as language and as being co-determined by complex contextual factors.

Evolution of Terminology Within the School System in Poland Viewed as a Challenge for Translators

What Is Going on in the Minds of Translators？ A Review of Studies on Translation Process

Border areas have provided significant new research questions as well as fruitful insights and hypotheses. The cognitive and neuropsychologic study of translation process is a good example of this kind. This paper has surveyed various researches on translation process. Studies related to ＂the black box of translation＂ are divided into two categories, i.e., studies adopting think-aloud protocols, and studies from the physiology and neuroscientific perspectives. It has been noted that those studies on translation process have made some progress in the past years Firstly, the participants have undergone a change from language learners to professional translators or interpreters Secondly, the purposes of the studies have a tendency of gradually becoming specific. Translators of the Sino-Russian crude oil pipeline: They are the translators who enabled communication between the Chinese staff and the Russian staff during the construction and operation of the SinoRussian crude oil pipeline, including during such crucial tasks like the launching and the reception of the pig traps and the process of transporting the oil. As ‘messengers’ connecting the Chinese and the Russians, and as a necessity in facilitating the transportation of oil from Russia to China, they make great contributions towards ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the Sino-Russian crude oil pipeline.

Changing Content of Translators＇ Prefaces： With Special Reference to China Yilin Press＇s Translated Publications

The current study aims at identifying the content configuration of translators＇ prefaces with special reference to China Yilin Press＇s English-Chinese （E-C） translated publications of American authors and finding the evolving tendency of the content of the translators＇ prefaces. One hundred and eight translators＇ prefaces are selected from the E-C translations published by the Press from 1988 to 2013 and classified on the basis of Genette＇s （1997） classification scheme. The Microsoft Excel as well as a human coder is used to analyze the evolving tendency and content of the translators＇ prefaces. Results indicate that translators＇ prefaces fall into 11 kinds in terms of their content, with the occurrence of three of them--genesis, the translator＇s conclusion and introduction to the translator ---on the increase, whereas that of eight of them--introduction to the author, introduction to the original, genre indication, the translator＇s opinion or analysis, statements of intent, contextual information, commentary on the title and introduction to the translated version--on the decline. It can be concluded that translators＇ prefaces play important roles in that they provide more information concerning the original and the author, such as plots, characters in the story and narrative techniques, but also give explanations for translators＇ motivation of translation, translation strategies adopted. Focus of the content of translators＇ prefaces has shifted from the original and the authors to the translators and translation process that reflect translator＇s subjectivity. This study underlines that due attention should be paid to the evolving tendency of their content configuration in recent years so as to ensure the social status of translators, and circulation and acceptance of the translated publications.

How Trainee Translators＇ On-line Communication Influencing Their Competence Development

Translation competence （TC） is the knowledge and skills that a translator needs to know in order to implement translation activities. The current research is based on the website translation project of Xianning News Online. Contrastive analysis is carried out on the trainee translators＇ TC development. By comparing the TC prior and post the project, conclusion is made on the dynamic development of the trainee translators＇ TC within the same environment and a detailed analysis is given on the factors that influence their TC development. The final part is about possible suggestions for future translator training.

A Corpus-Based Study on the Translators’Styles in the English Versions of The True Story of Ah-Q

The True Story of Ah-Q written by Lu Xun has been translated into forty different languages,making great contributions to the external dissemination of Chinese culture.This paper adopts the corpus stylistics method to analyze the translators’styles presented by William A.Lyell and Julia Lovell’s translations of Ah-Q.Based on the self-built comparable corpus of the two translations,the paper investigates and analyzes them from the lexical and sentence level.In terms of vocabulary,the translations are statistically analyzed from the standardized type-token ratio,word frequency,word length and vocabulary density;at the sentence level,the article studies the average sentence lengths and sentence complexity.The first major finding is that Lovell’s vocabulary is richer than that of Lyell,and Lovell’s average word length is longer.Also,the average sentence length of both translations exceeds the original text,and Lovell has the highest average sentence length.Secondly,Lovell prefers to use simple sentences while Lyell prefers complex sentences.Nevertheless,both of them strive to make Lu Xun’s works understandable to foreign readers,thus understanding Chinese culture better.

基于扎根理论的TEDTranslators项目志愿译者翻译动机探究

Web2.0时代的到来让古老的翻译活动出现了新的变化,基于网络平台技术支持的志愿者翻译应运而生。本文选取TED发起的TEDTranslators志愿者翻译项目为个案,采用质性研究中常用的扎根理论,利用Nvivo ll质性研究分析软件,通过收集、分析TEDTranslators官方网页上公开的对31位志愿译者的访谈等记录资料,旨在对其翻译动机做出归纳和探讨。研究最后发现,TEDTranslators项目志愿译者的翻译动机包括与他人分享、改变世界和社会、加强理解,获得知识、提高自己的技能、培养个人对视频内容的兴趣、翻译带来正面情绪、群体互动、视频时间短、自我调节和受其它影响等十种,这十种动机又可归纳为内生利己、外生利己、内生利他和外生利他四大类,其中内生利己和内生利他是TEDTranslators志愿译者参与志愿翻译服务的最主要动机,而外在诱因对志愿译者的翻译动机影响不大。
