Clinical Study on Treatment of Cervical Spondylotic Radiculopathy by Electroacupuncture plus Tuina

Objective: To observe the clinical effects of electroacupuncture(EA) plus tuina for cervical spondylotic radiculopathy. Methods: One hundred and twenty cases with cervical spondylotic radiculopathy were divided randomly by the digital table into the observation group and control group. The patients in an observation group were treated by EA plus tuina techniques. The patients in the control group were treated by simple tuina techniques. Results: The total effective rate was 91.7% in the observation group and 78.3% in the control group. The effective rates in the two groups were statistically different(P<0.05). Conclusion: EA plus tuina therapy is better than simple tuina therapy in the treatment of cervical spondylotic radiculopathy.

Therapeutic Efficacy Observation on Combining Foot Bath and Massage with Auricular Point Sticking for Community Senile Insomnia

Objective: To observe the therapeutic efficacy of combining foot bath and massage with auricular point sticking for community senile insomnia. Methods: A total of 210 cases treated in our community health center were randomized into an observation group and a control group by their visit sequence numbers, 105 cases in each group. Cases in the observation group were treated with foot bath and massage plus auricular point sticking, whereas cases in the control group were treated with auricular point sticking alone. After four courses of treatment, the therapeutic efficacies were evaluated. In addition, the sleep quality was also assessed using the Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI). Results: The total effective rate in the observation group was 95.2%, versus 68.6% in the control group, showing a statistical significance(P<0.05). Conclusion: Combining foot bath and massage with auricular point sticking could obtain better effect for community senile insomnia than auricular point sticking alone.

Clinical Analysis of Acupuncture Combined with Tuina in Treating Cervical Vertigo

Objective: To investigate the clinical efficacy of acupuncture combined with tuina in treating patients with cervical vertigo. Methods: According to the principle of randomization, 258 cases with cervical vertigo who met the inclusion criteria for the study were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, with 129 cases in each. The patients in the observation group received acupuncture combined with tuina therapy, while those in the control group were just treated by the same acupuncture therapy as in the observation group. After 10-day continuous treatments, the clinical efficacies of the two groups were analyzed and compared. Results: The total effective rate of the observation group was 100%, versus 86.0% of the control group, and the difference was significant(P<0.05). After treatment, cervical range of motion(ROM) scores in both groups were statistically significantly different from those before treatment(all P<0.05); in addition, there was a statistically significant difference in inter-group comparison of ROM score(P<0.05). Conclusion: Compared with simple acupuncture treatment, acupuncture combined with tuina therapy has a better effect in improving the ROM of cervical vertigo patients, with higher clinical efficacy.

Literature Analysis of Tuina in Regulating Subhealth Status in Recent 10 Years

The literatures of the recent ten years about tuina(massage) therapy in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) for regulating and treating the subhealth status were searched and analyzed to understand the current thought and methods for the regulation and treatment of subhealth status by tuina. The results showed that tuina had a better regulatory effect for subhealth status. In the selection of the position for tuina application, tuina was predominantly applied to the whole body, guided by the holistic viewpoint and meridian theory of Chinese medicine, especially on the Governor Vessel and Bladder Meridian of the back and on the area the patient felt uncomfortable. In terms of tuina techniques, the routine relaxing technique, tendon-regulating technique and acupoint-pressing technique were used in predominance. In terms of the therapeutic time and course, although the reports were different in various literatures, it was believed in most reports that 50 min and 2-4 sessions per week were appropriate. The therapeutic aim could be achieved by 15-20 sessions. Without pain from the needles and suffering in taking drugs, tuina has a better psychological regulatory effect, therefore it has a better prospect for popular application. But, the basic study on the explanation of its functional mechanism by modern medical theory and means needs to be intensified.

Therapeutic Observation of Warm Needling plus Tuina for Senile Functional Constipation

Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of warm needling plus tuina in treating senile functional constipation. Methods: Ninety elderly patients with functional constipation were randomized into two groups. Forty-six patients in the treatment group were intervened by warm needling plus tuina; the other forty-four patients in the control group were intervened by San Huang tablet. Results: In the treatment group, 19 patients were cured, 24 cases showed improvement, 3 cases failed, and the total effective rate was 93.5%; in the control group, 16 patients were cured, 18 cases showed improvement, 10 cases failed, and the total effective rate was 77.3%. There was a significant difference in comparing the therapeutic efficacy(P<0.05), and the therapeutic efficacy of the treatment group was higher than that of the control group. Conclusion: Warm needling plus tuina can produce a higher therapeutic efficacy than taking San Huang tablet in treating senile functional constipation.

Effect of Electroacupuncture Combined with Tuina on Lumbar Muscle Tone in Patients with Acute Lumbar Sprain

Objective: To observe the clinical effect of electroacupuncture(EA)combined with tuina on acute lumbar sprain and lumbar muscle tone before and after treatment. Methods: A total of 130 acute lumbar sprain cases were randomly allocated into an observation group and a control group, 65 in each group. Cases in the observation group were treated with EA combined with tuina, whereas cases in the control group were treated with Diclofenac Sodium Dual Release Enteric-coated capsules. The muscle tones in two groups were tested before and after treatment. Results: The recovery rate and overall response rate in the observation group were 66.2% and 93.8% respectively, versus 56.9% and 87.7% in the control group, showing no between-group statistical significances(P>0.05). After treatment, the force-displacement area under curve(AUC) in both groups showed a significance difference(P<0.05). Conclusion: Both EA combined with tuina and aforementioned oral medication have remarkable effects for acute lumbar sprain, and the former can better improve the lumbar muscle tone in patients with acute lumbar sprain.

Clinical observation on spleen-invigorating and qi-benefiting pediatric massage for treating recurrent respiratory tract infection in children with cerebral palsy due to qi deficiency of spleen and lung

Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of spleen-invigorating and qi-benefiting pediatric massage(tuina)for treating recurrent respiratory tract infection in children with cerebral palsy due to qi deficiency of spleen and lung.Methods:A total of 70 children with cerebral palsy who suffered from recurrent respiratory tract infection due to qi deficiency of spleen and lung were randomized into an observation group and a control group by the random number table method,with 35 cases in each group.Both groups were treated with conventional rehabilitation training,while the observation group was given additional spleen-invigorating and qi-benefiting pediatric massage,and the control group additionally took oral Yu Ping Feng granule.The clinical efficacy was evaluated by the total effective rate,traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)symptom score,and serum levels of immunoglobulin(Ig)A,IgM and IgG.Results:The difference in total effective rate between the two groups after treatment was statistically significant(P<0.05).After treatment,the TCM symptom scores in both groups decreased to varying degrees than those before treatment,and the intra-group differences were statistically significant(all P<0.01);the differences in the scores of various TCM symptoms between the two groups were statistically significant(all P<0.05).After treatment,the levels of IgA,IgM and IgG of the children in both groups increased to varying degrees,and the intra-group differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).The between-group differences in the IgA,IgM and IgG levels after treatment were statistically significant(all P<0.05).Conclusion:Spleen-invigorating and qi-benefiting pediatric massage can effectively treat recurrent respiratory tract infection due to qi deficiency of spleen and lung in children with cerebral palsy,relieve the clinical symptoms and improve immune function,and thus is worthy of clinical promotion and application.

Ginger-partitioned moxibustion plus pediatric massage for treating infantile diarrhea due to spleen deficiency:a randomized controlled clinical trial

Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of ginger-partitioned moxibustion plus pediatric massage(tuina)in treating infantile diarrhea due to spleen deficiency.Methods:Ninety infants were randomly divided into a massage plus moxibustion group,a massage group and a drug group by the random number table method,with 30 cases in each group.The intervention was conducted for two consecutive courses.The infants in the massage plus moxibustion group were treated with pediatric massage and ginger-partitioned moxibustion at Shenque(CV 8).The infants in the massage group were treated with pediatric massage alone,while those in the drug group were treated with smecta.The primary and secondary symptom scales were assessed before and after treatment and at the follow-ups,and the total effective rate was evaluated after treatment.Results:The total effective rate in the massage plus moxibustion group was significantly different from that in the massage group and drug group(both P<0.05).After treatment,the scores of primary and secondary symptoms decreased in all three groups,with statistically significant intra-group differences(all P<0.05);the scores of primary symptoms were significantly different between the massage plus moxibustion group and the drug group(P<0.05);the scores of secondary symptoms in the massage plus moxibustion group and the massage group were significantly different from that in the drug group(both P<0.05).The differences in the time to recover normal bowel movement frequency among the three groups were not statistically significant(P>0.05).Conclusion:Ginger-partitioned moxibustion plus pediatric massage compared with pediatric massage or smecta monotherapy shows superior clinical efficacy in treating infantile diarrhea due to spleen deficiency,and has the advantages of appetite improvement,physique strengthening and short course.

Clinical observation on moxibustion therapy plus tuina in treating children with recurrent respiratory tract infections due to qi deficiency of spleen and lung

Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of moxibustion therapy plus Liu's pediatric massage(tuina)for children with recurrent respiratory tract infections due to qi deficiency of spleen and lung.Methods:A total of 60 children who met the inclusion criteria were divided into an observation group and a control group according to the visiting sequence,with 30 cases in each group.Children in the observation group were treated with moxibustion therapy plus Liu's pediatric massage,and those in the control group were treated with Liu's pediatric massage alone.The incidence of respiratory tract infections and traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)symptoms score were observed and recorded in both groups before and after treatment.And the clinical efficacy was compared between the two groups・Results:The total effective rate of the observation group was 93.3%,and that of the control group was 83.3%.The differenee between the two groups was statistically significant(P<0.05).After treatment,the TCM symptoms score and total times of infections in both groups were all statistically different from those before treatment(all P<0.05).The differences in TCM symptoms score and infection frequency before and after treatment in the observation group were statistically different from those in the control group(both P<0.05).Conclusion:Moxibustion therapy plus Liu's pediatric massage has a better effect in improving the clinical symptoms and reducing the frequency of respiratory tract infections for children with recurrent respiratory tract infections due to qi deficiency of spleen and lung than the pediatric massage alone.

Clinical observation of Tiao Shen Tong Du Tuina in promoting neuropsychological development of premature infants

Objective To observe the impact of Tiao Shen Tong Du(regulating the mind and unblocking the Governor Vessel)Tuina(Chinese therapeutic massage)on neuropsychological development of premature infants,discover effective early-stage intervention techniques,and improve the prognosis of premature infants.Methods A total of 115 eligible premature infants were recruited and divided into a control group of 59 cases and an observation group of 56 cases based on different interventions.The control group received three-month physical therapy(PT)and conventional early-stage intervention,and the observation group received additional Tiao Shen Tong Du Tuina treatment.Before and after treatment and at the one-year follow-up,the Gesell developmental schedule was adopted to evaluate neuropsychological development.Results After treatment,the gross motor development quotient(DQ)was higher in the observation group than in the control group,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05);there were no significant differences in the other four domains between the two groups(P>0.05).At the one-year follow-up,the observation group showed more notable improvements in all five domains’DQs than the control group,and the between-group differences were statistically significant(P<0.05 or P<0.01).Conclusion Based on conventional intervention,Tiao Shen Tong Du Tuina can significantly improve the gross motor function of premature infants in the short term,alongside valid long-term efficacy for gross motor function,fine motor function,adaptive behaviors,language,and personal-social behaviors.

Observation on efficacy of thumbtack needle combined with pediatric Tuina for constipation in children caused by liver depression and Qi stagnation

Objective To observe the clinical effect of thumbtack needles combined with pediatric Tuina(Chinese therapeutic massage)for constipation in children caused by liver depression and Qi stagnation.Methods A total of 60 children with constipation caused by liver depression and Qi stagnation were randomly divided into a combined group and a Tuina group,with 30 cases in each group.The cases in the Tuina group were treated with pediatric Tuina,while those in the combined group were treated with additional thumbtack needle therapy.We observed the clinical efficacy and the change in the number of spontaneous bowel movements per week before and after treatment.Results After treatment,the cure rate and the total effective rate in the combined group were higher than in the Tuina group,showing statistical significance(P<0.05).Compared with the same group before treatment,the number of spontaneous bowel movements per week in both groups increased after treatment(P<0.05).With the progression of treatment,the number of spontaneous bowel movements per week increased in both groups,and the number in the combined group was more than that in the Tuina group,showing statistical significance(P<0.01).Conclusion Thumbtack needles combined with pediatric Tuina is more effective than pediatric Tuina alone in the treatment of constipation in children caused by liver depression and Qi stagnation.

Observations on the Efficacy of Acupuncture plus Tuina Therapy in Treating Supraspinatus Tendinitis

Objective： To investigate the clinical efficacy of acupuncture plus Tuina therapy in treating supraspinatus tendinitis. Methods： One hundred patients with supraspinatus tendinitis were randomly allocated to two groups. The treatment group of 50 cases was treated with acupuncture plus Tuina therapy and the control group of 50 cases, with simple acupuncture. Treatment was given once daily, 10 times as a course. The therapeutic effects were evaluated after two courses of treatment. Results： The total efficacy rate was 96.0% in the treatment group and 74.0% in the control group. X^2 test showed that there was a statistically significant difference in the total efficacy rate between the two groups （P〈0.01）. Conclusion： Acupuncture plus Tuina therapy is superior to simple acupuncture in treating supraspinatus tendinitis.

Clinical Observation on Three-character-scripture School Pediatric Tuina for Infants with Night Crying:A Report of 60 Cases

Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of Three-character-scripture School pediatric tuina for infants with night crying. Methods: Sixty cases with night crying were treated with Three-character- scripture School pediatric tuina, followed by observing the efficacy. Results: Forty-nine cases were recovered, 7 cases improved, and 4 cases failed. The total effective rate was 93.3%. Conclusion: Three-character-scripture School pediatric tuina is effective for night crying of infants. It should be spread and applied due to its manipulation with less acupoints, simple operation and no pain for infants.

Tuina plus Traction for Cervical Distortion in Teenagers:A Report of 40 Cases

Objective： To observe the clinical effect of tuina plus traction for cervical distortion in teenagers. Methods： Tuina plus traction was applied to 40 teenagers with cervical distortion once every other day, and 10 days make up 1 treatment course. The therapeutic effect was evaluated after 2 courses. Result： Significant changes occurred after the treatment： 15 cases got correction, 20 cases got substantial improvement and 5 cases got certain improvement. Conclusion： Tuina plus traction works effectively for abnormal cervical physiological curve in teenagers.

Therapeutic Observation on Tuina plus Electroacupuncture for Lateral Humeral Epicondylitis

Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of tuina combined with electroacupuncture(EA) in treating lateral humeral epicondylitis. Methods: Totally 118 patients were randomly allocated into a treatment group and a control group, 59 cases in each. The patients in the treatment group were treated with tuina combined with EA treatment, while those in the control group were treated by EA alone. Clinical efficacies of the two groups were compared after the treatment. Results: The total effective rate was 93.2% in the treatment group, versus 84.7% in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). Conclusion: Tuina combined with EA treatment for lateral humeral epicondylitis has a significant effect.

Nie-pinching the spine,puncturing Sifeng(EX-UE 10)plus Chinese herbs for pediatric anorexia due to dysfunction of spleen in transportation:a randomized controlled trial

Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of Nie-pinching the spine,puncturing Sifeng(EX-UE 10)plus Chinese herbs in treating pediatric anorexia due to dysfunction of spleen in transportation.Methods:A total of 64 kids were randomized into an observation group and a control group by the random number table method,with 32 cases in each group.Patients in both groups received Jian Pi Kai Wei(strengthening spleen and stomach)powder according to pattern differentiation of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).In addition,patients in the observation group received Nie-pinching the spine and puncturing Sifeng(EX-UE 10).Nie-pinching the spine was applied twice a week,and puncturing Sifeng(EX-UE 10)was performed once a week,with 2 weeks counted as 1 course of treatment.After 2 courses of treatment,the body mass index(BMI),peripheral blood leptin level and the microelements Zn,Fe and Se were compared at different time points(before treatment,after the first and second courses of treatment),as well as the therapeutic efficacy and onset time.Results:After 2 courses of treatment,31 cases in each group were evaluated.After the 1st course and the 2nd course,the BMI and serum Zn,Fe and Se levels in the observation group increased significantly(all P<0.05),the leptin level decreased substantially(both P<0.05);the BMI in the control group showed a substantial rise(P<0.05),while the Zn,Fe and Se levels slightly increased showing no statistical significance(all P>0.05),and the leptin level decreased but the difference showed no statistical significance(P>0.05).After the 1st and the 2nd courses of treatment,the BMI,serum Zn,Fe and Se levels increased more significantly(all P<0.05),and the serum leptin level decreased more significantly(both P<0.05)in the observation group than in the control group.After the 2nd course,the total effective rate and recovery rate in the observation group were both higher than those in the control group(both P<0.05),together with a quicker onset time(P<0.05).Conclusion:Nie-pinching the spine,puncturing Sifeng(EX-UE 10)plus Chinese herbs is effective for pediatric anorexia due to dysfunction of spleen in transportation.It can decrease leptin,increase Zn,Fe and Se levels,alleviate apositic symptoms and increase BMI in the kids.

Clinical efficacy observation of'Tong Du Yun Pi'manipulation for infantile diarrhea in autumn

Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of ‘Tong Du Yun Pi’(Governor Vessel-unblocking and spleen-promoting)manipulation in treating infantile diarrhea in autumn.Methods:Eighty-four kids were divided into a control group and an observation group using the random number table method,with 42 cases in each group.The control group was intervened by oral administration of montmorillonite powder;and the observation group was given additional‘Tong Du Yun Pi’pediatric massage(tuina)treatment.After treatment,the traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)symptoms scores,symptom improvement time,clinical efficacy and immune function indicators were compared between the two groups.Results:After treatment,the total effective rate was 95.2%in the observation group versus 76.2%in the control group,and the between-group difference was statistically significant(P<0.05);each item score in TCM symptoms was notably lower in the observation group than in the control group(all P<0.05);among the effective cases,the times to restore normal defecation,relieve abdominal bloating,arrest vomiting,and bring down the fever were markedly shorter in the observation group than in the control group,and the betwee regroup differences were statistically sign ificant(all P<0.05);the levels of immunoglobulin(Ig)G,IgM,CD4^(+)and CD4^(+)/CD8^(+)were significantly higher and CD8^(+)was significantly lower in the observation group than in the control group(all P<0.05).Conclusion:In the treatment of infantile diarrhea in autumn,based on oral administration of montmorillonite powder,‘Tong Du Yun Pi’manipulation can notably improve diarrheal symptoms,shorten disease duration,and strengthen the immunity of kids,producing more significant efficacy than oral administration of montmorillonite powder.

Efficacy observation of chiropractic plus foot bath with Chinese medicine for transient synovitis of the hip in children

Objective:To compare the efficacy of different treatment protocols in treating transient synovitis of the hip(TSH)in children and to optimize the clinical treatment strategy for this condition.Methods:Ninety kids with TSH were divided into a control group,a chiropractic group and a chiropractic plus foot bath group using the random number table method,with 30 cases in each group.The control group was treated with conventional traction;the chiropractic group was given chiropractic treatment based on the control group;the chiropractic plus foot bath group was given Chinese medicine foot bath based on the chiropractic group.Traction and foot bath were conducted once daily while chiropractic was done once every other day,all with 14 d as a treatment course for a total of two courses.Changes in the visual analog scale(VAS)score and range of motion(ROM)of the hip joint in the three groups were observed,and the efficacy was compared.Results:The total effective rate was 93.3%in the chiropractic plus foot bath group,versus 76.7%in the chiropractic group and 66.7%in the control group,and the total effective rate was notably higher in the chiropractic plus foot bath group than in the other two groups(both P<0.05).Respectively after the first and second treatment course,the VAS score decreased significantly in each of the three groups compared with that before treatment(all P<0.01),and the ROM of the hip joint in flexion increased significantly(all P<0.01).After two treatment courses,the VAS score was lower in the chiropractic plus foot bath group than in the other two groups(both P<0.05),and its ROM of the hip joint in flexion was larger than that in the other two groups(both P<0.05).Conclusion:Based on traction,chiropractic plus Chinese medicine foot bath can effectively reduce pain and improve motor function of the hip joint in treating TSH.
