In the history of Chinese-American people-to-people exchange,the implementation of the China-U.S.Fulbright Program is surely a bright facet which should not be ignored.This program has been cultivating talents in the ...In the history of Chinese-American people-to-people exchange,the implementation of the China-U.S.Fulbright Program is surely a bright facet which should not be ignored.This program has been cultivating talents in the fields of social sciences and humanities for the two countries,promoting Sino-U.S.communications in the domains of education,academia and culture,and propelling the diffusion and advance of both Chinese and American cultures.The Fulbright Program in China still has certain limitations waiting to be improved,and one obvious problem is its coverage in China.To solve this problem,more Chinese higher education institutions should be included in the China-U.S.Fulbright Program,and the result would be the generation of immeasurable value for the prosperity of Sino-American people-to-people exchange and therefore the construction of the new model of major country relations between China and the United States.展开更多
Purpose:Studying abroad is an importantway for universities tocultivate talent with international vision and global competitiveness.Based on its analysis of a U.S.university’s study in China program,this study provid...Purpose:Studying abroad is an importantway for universities tocultivate talent with international vision and global competitiveness.Based on its analysis of a U.S.university’s study in China program,this study provides policy recommendations to promote the overseas study and exchange ofU.S.students inChina.Design/Approach/Methods:This study examines the Beijing Overseas Learning Program of L University to examine the actual operations of a study abroad program in China.More specifically,this study examines the cooperative institution where the U.S.study program is located in China to analyze the operation mechanism and underlying logical framework of the program.Findings:This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the logical factors as well as internal and external reasons behind U.S.students’decisions to study in China.This study demonstrates that the“peer factor”has a decisive influence on students’decisions to study in China.Originality/Value:Study abroad programs constitute an integral part of China’s initiatives to enhance people-to-people exchanges with other countries.This study improves our understanding of the practical dynamics of study abroad programs in China,thereby enhancing abilities to attract U.S.students to study in China.展开更多

Despite serious difficulties caused by the civil war in China and the military confrontation in Korea, over 1,200 Chinese students and scholars returned from the United States （U.S.） to their homeland in the 1950s. ...Despite serious difficulties caused by the civil war in China and the military confrontation in Korea, over 1,200 Chinese students and scholars returned from the United States （U.S.） to their homeland in the 1950s. While the effort made by the returnees and the Communist regime has been studied, the role played by the U.S. government remains unclear. Relying mostly on archived government documents and published individual recollections, this paper shows that Washington provided most of its assistance to the Chinese students through the emergency aid program, which not only covered all the educational costs for about three quarters of them, but also paid travel expenses for about two thirds of the returnees. In addition, Washington assisted many students in obtaining visas from the British government for their transfer in Hong Kong and offered them room, board, and other services while they were waiting for their transportation in San Francisco. The examination of the helping hand extended by Washington to these returning Chinese students can enhance our understanding of the complex and dynamic nature of Sino-American relations during the Cold War.展开更多
