Pedalium murex Linn(family:Pedaliaceae)(P.murex) commonly known as Large Caltrops and Gokhru(India) is a shrub found in the Southern part.Deccan region of India and in some parts of Ceylon.Different parts of the plant are used to treat various ailments like, cough, cold and as an antiseptic.Interestingly.P.murex is reported traditionally to have an excellent cure in patients with reproductive disorders which are mainly impotency in men.nocturnal emissions, gonorrhoea as well as leucorrhoea in women. The plant has also benifiled in complications like urinary track disorder as well as gastro intestinal tract disorders.Phytochemically the plant is popular for the presence of a considerable amount of diosgenin and vanillin which are regarded as an important source and useful starting materials for synthesizing steroidal contraceptive drugs and isatin alkaloids.Other phytochemicals reported in the plant includes quercetin.ursolic acid, caffeic acid, amino acids(glycine, histidine, tyrosine, threonine, aspartie acid and glutamic acid) and various classes of fatty acids(triacontanoic acid,nonacosane.tritriacontane.tetratriacontanyl and heptatriacontan-4-one).Pharmacologically,the plant have been investigated for antiulcerogenic. nephroprotective.hypolipidemic, aphrodisiac, antioxidant, antimicrobial and insecticidal activities. From all these reports it can be concluded that the plant were found to have a better profile with potential natural source for the treatment of various range of either acute or chronic disease. The overall database of our review article was collected from the scientific sources in regards with all the information ol the research article for P.murex published so far. 展开更多

Objective:To evaluate the possible antiulcer effect of the African garden egg,Solanum aethiopicum(S.aethiopicum)(a domestic vegetable) experimentally in rats. Methods:A methanol extract of the plant fruit was prepared by maceration.Twenty five overnight fasted rats for each model were divided randomly into five groups of five rats.Groups 1,2,3,4 and 5 received normal saline, extract dose levels of 100,200 and 400 mg/kg and 100mg/kg of ranitidine respectively. All administrations were given orally. For the indomethacin and aspirin models, ulcerogenic agents(indomethacin,50 mg/kg and aspirin 200 mg/kg) were given thirty minutes after extract treatments and animals sacrificed 8 h later. The acidified ethanol model(ethanol 60%+0.1 mol/L HC1) was given 1hr after extract treatment and animals sacrificed 1 h later. Ulcer index was checked and analysed with appropriate statistical tools. Results:Extract of S. aethiopicum showed positive effect on all the models used.It produced higher ulcer inhibition than ranitidine in the indomethacin and acid-ethanol models. All the anti-ulcer effects of the extract at different doses were dose dependent but only in indomethacin model did it produce statistically significant(P【0.05) ulcer reduction in all doses compared to control. Conclusions: Garden egg,a readily cultivated crop vegetable possesses ulcer protective properties against ulcers induced experimentally making it a cheap source of natural anti-ulcer remedy. 展开更多

During the last few years, condensed thienopyrimidine derivatives have received considerable attention. The therapeutic importance of thienopyrimidines prompted us to synthesize some of spiro(benzothieno[2,3-d]pyrimidine-4-one) derivatives. Some of the novel benzothino-pyrimidine derivatives 3a, 9b, 10b, 11a, 11b, and 11c showed considerable potent anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity of superior G.I.T. safety profile in experimental rats in comparing to indomethacin and tramadol as reference drugs. 展开更多

A large body of literature supports the idea that inflammation exacerbates neurodegenerative pathology. This idea is also supported by the fact that intracerebral or intraperitoneal injection of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induces symptoms of Parkinson’s disease in rats. The aim of this study is to evaluate the anti-inflammatory effects of the novel antiparkinsonian drug hemantane (N-2(adamantyl)hexamethylenimine hydrochloride), which is currently undergoing clinical trials, in models of peripheral inflammation and neuroinflammation and to investigate its ulcerogenic action, which is a common side effect of nonselective nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Acetic acid-induced peritonitis in mice was used as a model of peripheral inflammation. Effect on the stomach was investigated in rats were deprived of food for 16 hours and then were treated with 0.2 LD50 of hemantane or the comparator drug diclofenac sodium per os. Injection of LPS in the left substantia nigra pars compacta in rats was chosen as a model of neuroinflammation. LPS-induced body weight loss, forelimb akinesia and behavioral changes caused by irritating odor were registered in rats. Hemantane in the dosage range of 10 - 40 mg/kg demonstrates anti-inflammatory activity and significantly decreases the intensity of exudative reaction in a model of acetic acid-induced peritonitis in mice. Additionally, at the dose of 0.2 LD50 orally it did not damage the gastric mucosa of rats. In a model of neuroinflammation induced by a unilateral injection of LPS, hemantane (10 mg/kg) prevents weight loss, development of forepaw akinesia contralateral to the operation, and smell disturbance in rats. Effectiveness of hemantane in the animal models of peripheral inflammation and neuroinflammation make it possible to suggest a new application of hemantane as a safe anti-inflammatory drug. 展开更多

A new series of isatin semicarbazide derivatives(7a-7j) were synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic means and elemental analysis.Analgesic and anti-inflammatory screening was performed using tail-flick technique and the carrageenan-induced foot paw edema test respectively. The ulcerogenicity was also determined for all the compounds. Some of the compounds showed moderate enhancement of the activity.Among the synthesized derivatives, compound 7d showed higher analgesic, antiinflammatory and one-third of ulcer index of the reference drug. 展开更多
