Influences of acoustic field parameters on welding arc behavior in ultrasonic-MIG welding

By applying ultrasonic-MIG welding as research object, the behaviors of welding arc were analyzed with varied ultrasonic parameters in welding using arc images recorded by high-speed camera. The influences of the current by exciting ultrasonic and the height and shape of ultrasonic radiator on welding arc were studied. Results showed that when the current was 150 mA, ultrasonic showed most distinct compressive effect on arc. The compressive volumes of arc length at different heights were calculated by adjusting the height of ultrasonic radiator continuously from 10 mm to 35 mm, there were three maximum points. The compressive degrees of them reduced successively. By utilizing different shapes of ultrasonic radiator, it revealed that ultrasonic radiator with spherical crown surface showed better compressive effect in a larger welding standard scope. When radius of radiator increased, axial compressive volume of arc enlarged, while an increasing curvature radius led to mare distinct radial compression of arc. 展开更多

An developed electrical source with an certain frequency bandwidth for the purpose of the arc excited is connected with an conventional welding power supply through coupling the cables for the experiment. Some resonant frequency bands for the arc excited ultrasonic are discovered in the welding process, and its frequency, amplitude and phase'shift are recorded. This principle demonstrates that arc can be used not only for a thermal source, but also for an ultrasonic emission source, which may be extent to the industrial application in some new ways, such as for automatic welding process control and quality inspection. 展开更多

Single pulse excited ultrasonic guided wave surfers high attenuation during the propagation in long bones.This results in small amplitude and low signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)of measured signals.Thus,the Barker code excitation is introduced into long bone detection to improve the quality of received signals,due to its efficiency in increasing amplitude and SNR.Both simulation and in vitro experiment were performed,and the results were decoded by the weighted match filter(WMF) and the finite impulse response- least squares inverse filter(FIRLSIF),respectively.The comparison between the results of Barker code excitation and sine pulse excitation was presented.For 13-bit Barker code excitation,WMF produced 13 times larger amplitude than sine pulse excitation,while FIR-LSIF achieved higher peak-sidelobe-level(PSL) of -63.59 dB and better performance in noise suppression.The results show that the Barker code excited guided waves have the potential to be applied to the long bone detection. 展开更多

A dual-excited full-wavelength piezoceramic ultrasonic transducer as a cascade of two half-wavelength sandwich piezoceramic transducers is studied.The relevant parameters' expressions of the figure of merit N for the transducer are derived,and the effects of the structure and material parameters of the transducer on its characteristics are further analyzed by numerical calculation.The results show that when the two piezoceramic stacks are respectively located at the displacement nodes of their own half-wavelength transducers,or the two piezoceramic stacks have the same number of pieces in the case of a certain number of piezoceramic pieces,the figure of merit of the transducer can reach a maximum.With increasing of the number of piezoceramic pieces in a fairly large range,the figure of merit of the transducer slightly decreases,but the force factor of the transducer increases rapidly.The metal materials of the transducer have little effect on its figure of merit.Thus it can be seen that the dual-excited full-wavelength transducer can effectively increase the volumes of the piezoceramic stacks in the case of that the transducer's comprehensive performance has only a little bit of degradation,so it's power capacity and load capability can be dramatically improved,which means the transducer is more suitable for high power and heavy load applications. 展开更多
