The experimental results show: the welded state of superplastic solid state welding interface of heterogeneous steel can be conducted to be more accurately, reliably and quickly inspected by means of this system, and the ultrasonic testing results are good consistent with actual examination results of the interface defective distribution. Within the extent of the suitble welded rate,the welded rate in 40Cr/T10A superplastic welding process tested by this system is linear with its tensile strength of joint.展开更多

B-scan imaging technique was applied to characterize the fusion state in the joint and distinguish welding detects such as incomplete penetration. Calculation of weld width at the interface of the two plates and imaging of the weld cross section were accomplished. Experimental results show that rapid nondestructive testing can be achieved by this method with threshold value of 30% attenuation degree. The calculation error is less than 0. 25 mm.展开更多

To improve the ultrasonic measurement in this situation, it...Ultrasonic inspection of austenitic steel weld is a great challenge due to skewed and distorted beam in such a highly anisotropic and inhomogeneous material. To improve the ultrasonic measurement in this situation, it is essential to have an in-depth understanding of ultrasound characteristics in austenitic steel weld. To meet such a need, in the present study we propose a method which combines the weld model, Dijkstra’s path-finding algorithm and Gaussian beam equivalent point source model to calculate the acoustic fields from ultrasonic phased array in such a weld. With this method, the acoustic field in a steel-austenitic weld-steel three-layered structure for a linear phase array transducer is calculated and the propagation characteristics of ultrasound in weld are studied. The research results show that the method proposed here is capable of calculating the acoustic field in austenitic weld. Additionally, beam steering and focusing can be still realized in the austenitic steel weld and the beam distortion is more severe in the middle of weld than at other positions.展开更多

It is concluded that large scanning step length contributes to high testing efficiency, however, the low-resolution C-scan image generated cannot be used to assess spot welding quality reliably. Based on bicubic image interpolation, the C-scan image in low resolution with the large step length 1 000 ~xm is subdivided and reconstructed. By this means, the C-scan image resolution is greatly enhanced and testing results obtained are satisfactory, realizing rapid assessment of spot welds. The results of rapid ultrasonic C-scan test fit the actual metallographic measured value well. Mean value of normal distribution of error statistics is O. 006 67, and the standard deviation is O. 087 11. Rapid ultrasonic C-scan test based on image interpolation is of high accuracy and excellent stability.展开更多

Since the color tones of weld seam were different from th...In order to realize automatic weld seam tracking for pipeline ultrasonic flaw inspection, an image processing algorithm based on HSI color space was presented. Since the color tones of weld seam were different from the parent metal, weld seam images were transformed to HSI color space. In the HSl colar space, the weld seam and base metal area can be apparently distinguished. By using this image processing algorithm, the edges and centerline of pipeline weld seam can be correctly extracted. An industrial application system was developed based on the image processing algorithm, and the image processing time is less than 70 ms and the accuracy of weld seam recognition is better than 2mm.展开更多

Seven features were extracted from the image and represented 87. 3% information of the original data. Both the extracted features and the original data were used to train support vector machine model to assess the feature extraction performance in two aspects: recognition accuracy and training time. The results show that using the extracted features the recognition accuracy of pore,crack,lack of fusion and lack of penetration are 93%,90.7%,94.7% and 89.3%,respectively,which is slightly higher than those using the original data. The training time of the models using the extracted features is extremely reduced comparing with those using the original data.展开更多
